The Godzilla Movie Site has posted an interesting piece of info. Apparently a rumor has been floating around since February that Toho (Godzill's license holder) may require Legendary Pictures, which is producing the Godzilla 2014 film, to use actual suitmation in filming! Suitmation being the use of actual physical suits with actors in them (like Ultraman, Kamen Rider, Super Sentai, etc) rather than CGI.
This rumor hasn't been confirmed by Legendary Pictures or the films' director Gareth Edwards, but it would stand to reason that Toho would like to see suitmation in this film over the more generally used CGI. This keeping with the roots of the classic Godzilla franchise. The suit design attached to this article would certainly imply that Toho wants to see this happen. Godzilla Movie

Godzilla 2014 may utilise suitmation as well as CGI
This would be interesting if true. Done well, in-suit actors can really look amazingly real.

Not that big of a deal. The 2004 Godzilla used a mixture. Like when Zilla bust through the building at the start of his rampage? Guy in a suit.

As much as I want to say that I'd prefer man in suit over CG, it really doesn't matter to me.

CGI usually works best when it's used with practical effects. Probably the most recent thing I can think of were those black aliens from Attack the Block.

The problem with a mixture isn't the suit actor, its the cgi. It's got to be spot on to make it believable.

Hell, remember Bumblebee in the first Transformers movie? The CGI was MORE convincing than the actual full sized model. Also, the baby raptorzillas were full dudes in suits a lot of the time, and they had a big, not to scale obv., Godzilla animatronic. There was a cool video I wish I could find. |

Anyway, with current technologies, CG and Suitmation could work. Worked well enough in most Millennium Godzilla movies.
