A new Garo series is upon us, and the merchandise was of course not far behind this fan-favorite toku franchise!
Preorders originally opened on April 5 on Tamashii Webshop for the latest entry in the Makai Kado toyline, Garo Ryuga Ver. This stunning figure stands nearly eight inches tall and shows off the tarnished black Makai Knight armor as worn by Dogai Ryuga well. Garo Ryuga Version also includes a sweeping three-piece cape and his signature Horror-slaying blade Garoken. Ryuga's Garo figure will cost 6090 yen and ship in September. Source: Tamashii Web

Really wish they'd do more S.H.Figuarts of Garo characters. The Makai Kado line just doesn't really do it for me Those this one does look nice.

Think that ship's long since sailed after the reception for Garo, Zero and Kouga's dad. Have heard good things about the Makai Kado molds that aren't redone Equip & Prop figures though - which ones did you get?

Haven't picked any of them up recently. But if for nothing else than consistency I'd rather have Figuarts. We already have a couple releases and I'd like to have more figures to go with them.

Then consistency aside, why exactly don't Makai Kado "do it" for you if you don't own any?

Much like most SIC figures I don't like the liberties that the Makai Kado line takes with the designs. I don't really feel a need to own something if it isn't aesthetically pleasing to me. I've never been a fan of the over detailing these things have. I much prefer a more accurate and better scaled Figuart any day. I've handled plenty of Equip Prop and Makai Kado figures in hand thanks to other collectors, but it just isn't a line that holds much interest for me.

I asked because it didn't seem really clear from your earlier comments why you didn't like Makai Kado. Usually someone cites the poor construction on Garo or Zero or past experience with Equip & Prop and then it all makes sense. Only reason I pressed the issue.
Never actually saw E&P or Makai Kado as taking any serious liberties with the designs. They look to me the same way the suits do aside from some of the carvings, like the ones around Garo's shoulders, being more visible than they are in the show.

I'll pass until Ryuga proves himself worthy of the title. And of course, until he actually has a personality. When are they going to give us a Kiba Figuart? Right now, I only care about owning the characters from the first season.
And I have the Garo figure from the Makaido line and I think he is awful. His joints fall off all of the time when you try to move them (specifically his hands and feet), the stylized looks also hinder the articulation, and he is just too tall. |
