So far, not a single joke involving Victor has flopped. These two are pretty great for obvious Bulk and Skull rip-offs.
I actually saw some improvements, acting wise, with Brody. I feel he'll be getting better as the season goes on. He at least seemed somewhat believable in this episode compared to episode 1. When I originally saw the Ninja Master Swords, I thought they were dumb, but now that I know they're chainsaw swords, they're probably the best Power Rangers original weapon ever. Overall, good episode, best one so far at least. Excited to see where everything goes. |

If it's in an alternate universe than the would make for some complicated team-ups, which was confirmed will happen in the Super season for the 25th anniversary

I'm liking it. The headquarters looks pretty cool. Love the incorporation of a smelting area to make new stars. I do wonder the layout for the HQ in the paint room, wouldn't mind seeing the blueprints for that.
Brody wasn't completely choppy with his dialogue this time which is great. He sounded natural which has been an issue with him the last two episodes. I'm going to be honest, I do not care for the Megazord design. I don't hate it but it does nothing for me either. THe naming their stuff is a bit...why? It's the one drawback in not having an actual mentor handing these things out. It sounds more put upon when they make it up themselves and then deliver it in that "buy one now" tone. Again, doesn't kill it but man do I cringe. I love the ninja practice suits. Victor and the nerd do nothing for me, I neither hate nor enjoy them. They simply are. I still love Cosmo Royale though and the Galactic Warriors setup is inspired. I love the meta-ness of it. "Power Rangers are good for ratings!" indeed. |

I couldn't get over how unbelievably childish this episode was written. For starters you have a cartoon gag in someone flying off screen and crashing with debris flying everywhere and the cliche "where did everyone go?" gag when Brody turns to look for the others to try out their Elemental Stars.
Then, the "pop quiz" in math class (sorry, "Lightning Quiz", must be a New Zealand term) is nothing but basic addition and subtraction. Yet it's a high school class. To me, that says the writers are gearing everything towards the kids. And before everyone jumps in and says "BUT POWER RANGERS IS FOR KIDS", a show can be targeted at kids without literally writing it at a kids' level. Spongebob Squarepants is a kids show - a LITTLE kids show at that - and still managers to pull off superb writing and enough adult humor that mom and dad can laugh. People often refer to MMPR as the catalyst of all this "dry humor". But MMPR also had episodes that dealt with overcoming fears (Billy's fear of heights, Kim's uncle passing out and her having to overcome her fears and land the plane) as well as real-life situations (Kim lamenting that her parents are divorced, having to cancel on a friend to save the world and trying to make it up to said-friend, etc.). MMPR was definitely aimed at kids but not to the point that the Power Rangers at around and colored in their off-time. Yet, I wouldn't be surprised if I saw Brody bust out a coloring book with Redbot in their downtime. This episode got 2/5 from me. The fact that they got "Ninja Master Mode", yet didn't do anything to get it, is another example of not knowing how to write in toys to the story. Maybe someone should reach out to Super Sentai and Kamen Rider's writing teams to figure out a proper way to utilize a new toy in an episode as opposed to "Hey guys, look - the Ninja Prism Star gave us these new Power Stars, let's use them!".

I rather enjoyed the first two episodes but wasn't overly impressed with this one. Just like Kickback put it was just so overly juvenile, it's amazing how much something like the quiz questions being so simple can throw you out of the whole thing. Plus the dialogue in this episode was atrocious - I wouldn't dream of coming to Power Rangers for award-winning stuff but my god almost every line made me cringe.

I only clips of episode 3 and maybe 1 while not watching any full episodes* It looks like things have gone at least a bit down hill since Dino Charge. Does this show look like its worth watching? Also they got the perfect red ranger because Akaninger couldn't act either.
