I used to do that method, but I'm just not into it anymore because the frame itself would just take up to much space, and the post I'm trying to hang wouldn't look good in that format since there is a lot going on and not really simplistic to bring the backing and border out.

Actually looking at JPN posters myself. Could always buy a slightly larger frame and do a solid colored backing for it, might end up being cheaper in the long run.
