It's strange really. In itself Power Rangers requires some effort since you aren't just doing a straight dub, so I'm surprised he bothered to do that at all with how little he seemingly cares.
I really think he's more involved, since his greater involvement led to crap like MMPR, half the cast leaving over money, and the fact that, right before Disney's acquirement of the franchise, we were getting some pretty good shows, like Time Force and Lightspeed.
Yeah, in what direction as well. Does he have more involvement now so it's more money driven than story driven? Or is it because he has less involvement that the series seems to lack its former heart and passion?
Yeah it's funny that once upon a time Saban both tried to make money and make a decent show to go with it. I don't think a lot of early Saban stuff has aged well, minus Time Force, but Neo Saban may as well be another company entirely with the lack of effort and care they seem to put into their franchise. At least early Saban tried and had heart.
That's because toy sales are god, and Samurai made bank. As long as the toys have flashy representatives on screen, they don't have to even try (As evidenced by the Zord summoning sequence obviously having the Gosei cards, instead of the American ones). It's unfortunate, and puts me into sheer disbelief that Time Force was heralded by Saban. I don't know who was writing, but we seriously need that man back.
The Disney era is massively underrated, and that's unfortunate, because there was so much potential and good, while Saban's series tend to reek of "Trying to make a quick buck."
Carrying on our off topic discussion, it's clear Saban now knows from Samurai that they need to put in no effort and still drown in money so they made Megaforce next which is somehow an even more shallow version of MMPR which was paper thin in the first place.
I actually think they Disney era got good actors, I mean none of them were really Oscar worthy but have you actually tried to rewatch anything before Time Force? I remember kids in secondary school who could act better than that.
I can't remember who said it, or the exact quote, but they said 'When Disney was good it was better than anything Saban had to offer, when it was bad it was worse than anything Saban had to offer' and I think that sums it up.
I love the Disney era the most because minus duds like OO and to a lesser extent Dino Thunder and SPD consistently the quality was on one, decent level, whereas Saban would make amazing stuff like Time Force and garbage like Samurai, with no real unifying balance.
