Oh yeah, popular franchises are always targets for petty badmouthing. It's really annoying, but I just feel that the hatred for the MLP fandom transcends even bandwagon hate.
Like it's one thing to say, "Haha, he's a Star Trek nerd" vs "Eww ... he's a brony". Like the latter is treated as a disturbed psycopath that's actually dangerous.
Oh well, it's just something to ignore. Thanks for your views. I'm still at season 1 by the way.
It's an easy target, so naturally the masses will flock to attack it.
It never really bothered me because I've been attacked for every hobby of mine, so what's one more, but it is mildly annoying.
I don't know why everyone treats it like it's evil, though. I guess people are just assholes.
That's very sad. It's one thing to grow out of the fandom of course ... that's perfectly normal. But to badmouth it after you left? Seems incredibly petty.
I don't really keep up anymore because I rather watch at my own pace as it releases here in Australia.
It's just really strange though. I don't think any fandom has got such a bad rep like the MLP one does. On social media, "brony" is like a derogatory term, as if saying "he's a brony" is enough to evoke reactions of shock and disgust. I mean, do you see people picking on Sonic fans like that, for example? Bronies have been derided more than furries used to be, I just don't get it.
It's actually incredibly simple.
You see, during Season 1 and 2, there was something called a bandwagon. It was huge, and everyone rode upon it. However, during Season 3, the princess Twilight fiasco, and Equestria Girls, the bandwagon slowed down some.
I don't want to be "That guy" when I say this, but the MLP bandwagon slowing truly separated true fans and those just in it for the burst of popularity and its fad like status.
Artists and animators rode the pony bandwagon because it basically ensured their accounts on DA or Youtube would go from 100 views to 1,000,000 overnight, fanfic writers had plenty of fruit to pick from, and people just looking for interactions had a huge fanbase that wasn't 4chan levels of evil to befriend.
Once that bandwagon slowed, people had to make a choice, and some of them went with "Oh, nah. I just grew up lol. Ponies are for manchildren lel I just wish I realized sooner lol" and distanced themselves by being more vitriol than even other haters.
I've only just realised this recently, but wow the internet seems to hate bronies. It actually seems worse than when I was active in the fandom a few years ago. What happened?
