Funny enough I didn't hit a single teleporter in the room. Did get hit by the giant laser though, thanks to how Liliac's dash only works in the direction you're already facing.
Pretty much the same. 46 deaths just for the final area and I only beat Brevon by dashing into his ass, but I honestly could not tell you a pattern. There's no warning for his green ring teleport crap, and the fact he can kill you in two hits from his main attack is just cheap.
Carol I've not tried, but I do know she has the roll ability rather than Lilac. Which I find odd since rolling is more useful for speed characters, but she didn't have a lot going for her so they probably wanted her to have it instead. I think this goes back to the lack of focus, they wanted to make a Sonic but also a Mega Man game, which might also explain the wonky physics. Really they should have just made Carol fast too and given her something like wall climbing.
Oh yeah, I get you. The last level was nigh frustrating, especially at that level where you had to jump up this tall room without hitting any of the teleporters. And defeating the final boss accounted for over 50% of all my deaths. (The last area, overall, accounted for 80% of my deaths, if I recall correctly) It was just frustrating, and I only managed to beat him by exploiting a weakness he had. There's one time he's very vulnerable to that dash trick Lilac does, and it takes off a huge amount of his life. But you'll have to stay alive to do it enough to kill him, and that's the tricky part.
I tried playing Carol and her mechanics were even more frustrating so I gave up. But I did enjoy myself, so I don't regret getting the game. It ended on a positive note for me, despite its flaws.
It lacked focus near the end, and a bit of polish overall. It has great potential to become a fantastic franchise, but they're going to have to try harder with this. Because fun as it is, even if the really bad stuff is a small part, I cannot overlook the flaws of how needlessly difficult and annoying the final bit is.
The only saving grace is the checkpoint feature that thankfully applies to the final boss' forms.
Here's hoping for a sequel that can handle the end game better, it certainly deserves a followup more than most other indie games.
I didn't end up not liking it, but I really think that the last quarter of the game was really rushed and all over the place, particularly the last few bosses which really felt like luck and nothing more. I felt no sense of accomplishment in beating them.
The game has flaws, particularly with the Sonic 4 like physics, which become more apparent late in the game when you need to be damn precise. For the most part it's an enjoyable experience, fantastic bosses, great level designs, fairly good music. But goddamn does it drag at the end. Trying too hard to make the dreadnaught feel chaotic and instead just making it feel like bad layout, tossing in enemies for the sake of it, and trying too hard to make the next boss more over the top than the last rather than being a fair but fun challenge.
