Well, S1 only has one ongoing plot throughout the season, and it's only 3 episodes long. The rest are just stories that are, for the most part, unconnected and just about the ponies having fun, learning life lessons, destroying the city, etc.
So really, you can dive in at any point except the finale (Since episode 3 and 16 build it up)~
