Q is more powerful than whatever pathetic "god" this was. At least Q would never be killed by a phaser cannon blast. When Trek captains face off against Q, it's usually a mind game (like against Discord, or Mr Mxyzptlk), here, it's just a boring physical fight.

Unless Shatner sees himself to be God.

The movie was just high on so many levels. There's good high, like the one with the humpback whales, and there's bad high, like this one. So at least it is entertaining, if very, very bad.

Ah alright. What a strange change. I like the original styling better.

In the Final Frontier, the villain was Spock's brother who sought to find God in the centre of the galaxy. He basically brainwashed everyone into cult-like hippies and took over the Enterprise.

But of course! Not Kirk! Because William Shatner directed this movie, only Kirk had the willpower to resist the brainwashing! *cue Mary Sue music*

In the end, they did find God in the centre of the galaxy (which is, by the way, a feat that defied all Star Trek technology before and after that point. Voyager took 7 years to cross half the galaxy). "God" turned out to be an evil alien who was not divine at all (and of course only Kirk could see through his ruse!) Together Kirk and Spock defeat him and Kirk concludes that God is really inside each of us.

Coupled with horrendous special effects, exploitation of a then 57 year old Uhura to do a fanservice dance, and the complete incompetence of everyone except Kirk you get a movie whose only saving grace is the amazing music.

I understand.
