That sounds weird.
Anyway, the story goes that "soccer" originated among the elite of the UK, while "football" was a more common term among the middle-class.
Both "Soccer" and "Football" are British terms for the formal sport, "Association Football". Soccer came from the Association part.
I googled. Do you know where the word "soccer" comes from? I always thought it was interesting trivia.
