It's not bad...how I like to compare is using a Subway sandwich! In the US, a footlong sandwich is $5 before tax, and my minimum wage was $8.25. Here, a footlong is $7-10, and my minimum wage is $20.

Well that depends on how much you work. Most people here in restaurants work "casual" meaning they forgo sick leave and annual leave and other benefits for a higher pay. "Casual" also means that your boss sets your shifts and it's not necessarily permanent.

If you work say, 38 hours a week (unlikely, but theoretically), you get about...$3000 AUD per month. Now if you were full-time, you'd definitely get all 38 hours but your pay will be slightly less. You do get more paid days off and other benefits though.
