Colour-coded stuff sounds so ingenious. This is what I get for not reading enough fanfiction. But I hope italics will more strongly separate the narrator and the internal thoughts, like you mentioned. Also need to structure them around more.

Day was alright. Went to see my sister's school play (My Fair Lady), and it was pretty impressive. Kids these days are so talented they put me to shame.

Also started reading some articles on how to write, very interesting stuff. I learned you could write internal thoughts in italics to make them clearer though some authors are very against that. I guess in writing authors have no agreed standard on what is right or wrong. I will try italics next time though.

I'm beginning to feel that prose could be tons of fun, if I only had tons of stuff to write about.

I hope it was just play-fun and not seriously injurious.

Corporal punishment was very common in...that country that a lot of people just kind of accepted it. Every household had a cane and sometimes other objects like belts and rulers were used.

Well, I agree with you though. I have had the experience of severe physical punishment in the past, the kind that leaves scars for days. It's not pleasant.
