Aha okay. The movies are great, but a lot of the finesse is lost. Can't be helped, there's only so much you can do in the span of short movies. Rowling's themes are far too complex to be squeezed into the movies. A lot of details are lost.

The books on the other hand, they're just far too good. Deathly Hallows is a masterpiece on love, death and destiny. But I am a pretty big Potter fan, so...

Did you know in Harry Potter love is treated as the strongest form of magic? The Ministry for Magic studies love in their most secret departments and they have completely failed to divine its mechanics. Love is the most powerful but also the most incomprehensible of magic, and Voldemort, being someone born without love (kinda skipped over in the movies), is totally incapable of it. Love gave Harry Potter an invulnerability to Voldemort for the first 14 years of his life until Voldemort found a loophole, which Dumbledore exploited to finally defeat him anyway.

We could do it in a big mansion by the sea! And there could be a bed between the stairs, and we could.......crash into the walls!

Oh no, it's still Neville. I highly recommend finishing it! All three of Rowling's themes are developed to perfection in the final story.

Similarly, Voldemort heard the prophecy of a boy born on a certain month who is destined to defeat him. He assumed it was Potter and set about trying to kill him as a baby and it backfired, leading to the events of the books. I believe it was pointed out that it might not necessarily be Potter, it could be another baby (in the books, Neville) with the same characteristics. And more importantly, by taking the first step to kill Potter, Voldemort set into motion the events of his destiny. He could have chosen not to kill, he could have chosen not to be the Dark Lord. But he adopted the mantle and destiny caught up with him.

In the end, it's a balance between destiny and our choices. While destiny does happen, it is partly a result of our own choices in life.
