Thank you, that makes me smile. I really, really do love Elsa, and not even in a waifu/crush sort of way, but in a way that there's no fictional character that I so closely identify with.

Oh, interesting observation I made, have you noticed that despite Let it Go being the most popular song of the movie, the movie doesn't actually close with it? If you listen to the soundtrack, (Google "Frozen: Epilogue") the last few musical themes are actually "For the First Time in Forever" followed by a finish in "Do You Want to Build a Snowman?" No where is "Let it Go" heard, showing that Elsa has finally found her solution: not letting it go, but rather love that properly answers the question, "Do You Want to Build a Snowman?" with an affirmative yes.

That true act of love is the answer to depression, loneliness or what have you. And when I saw that on-screen my jaw dropped. A movie that actually does something besides telling people to just let it go. And I ate it up. Elsa suddenly represents hope for people everywhere, that there was a way out of darkness and that was love. Not cliched romantic love, but empathic, self-sacrificing love.

So that's the short version of why I love Elsa. I could go way longer than that but my work is about to start and it's hard to type on the phone. Hope you liked it. I'll see you soon!

Letting it Go ended up causing a tragic disaster. What then, is the solution? That's the ultimate message of the movie, "Love will thaw a frozen heart." And best of all, not just romantic love but true self-sacrificing, empathic love.

Consider Anna. At this point in time she thinks her sister is a monster. Someone who would hurt her. But her final act, between choosing her own personal happiness and life with Kristoff and saving her sister, was to save her sister. She doesn't care that her sister is a monster, a freak who can't control herself. And that is important, the ability to empathize even when she cannot understand, even if she doesn't accept it.

But what elevates Elsa above the usual fearful, insecure depressed person is the ultimate message of the movie. Most stories teach that you just need to Let it Go. Twilight just needs to calm down. Hermione should not be so OCD. Tsubomi just needs to open up. Fine message but often doesn't work in real life.

People don't talk about this much but Frozen essentially subverts the message of Let it Go, ironically. Elsa finally finds freedom, lets herself go and is happy for he first time. But is she truly happy? She learns she caused eternal winter, is a danger to everyone and can never truly escape.

"Oh I'm such a fool, I can't be free! No escape from the storm inside of me! I can't control the curse!"
