I have Magiking. Well actually I have the American one, which is the same minus tons of paint apps. It's actually pretty ingenious, but the secret trick is that the Green mecha forms the majority of the body. This includes half the legs, the arms, 1/3 the body and the head in robot mode. Yellow is the wings, Red and Pink form the chest, and Blue forms the boots. In a sense, it does the Kyoryujin-style transformation where one mecha dominates and controls, but it's actually hidden very well and looks impressive as a result. Helps that it becomes a lovely dragon too.

I also have Wolzard, that guy is awesome. I felt in love with the "Dark Knight" aesthetic and a transforming horse is just genius.

That's really the part I don't understand. Kyoryujin appeals more to the Transformers side of things than the combiner. It's pretty much like GekiTouja except with arms instead of legs. All 5 Rangers' mecha don't even combine in one formation, and when the 6th comes along, it becomes a backpack that makes the connectors fragile.

I mean, I like it a lot and the simplicity appeals to me, but if fans want to rant about the "simple" designs of ToQger's mecha, you'd think they'd pick something else that doesn't involve arm swapping gimmicks. Maybe Go-busters, or Magiranger.
