It's really important to be understanding in dealing with these things. My friend was a terrible counselor to me, his mentality was that "the solution is just there, why aren't you taking it? I see no problem at all." It made his girlfriend really frustrated too since she's been quite depressed and every time she wants to talk about her issues he just thrusts a solution he concocted in her face.

I admit it's a really fine line between empathy and being harsh. I have trouble with it too, but it usually requires patience and lots of talking. (I guess that's why Bakemono has so much dialogue ) Far too many people feel slapping harsh truths on things solve issues, and what makes it worse is that they're often very, very wrong. It is necessary to provide counsel in a counseling situation, but you cannot assume to fully understand what the other person is feeling. If Bakemono really can walk the fine line between being understanding and counsel, it must be really impressive.
