That sounds terrible. 10 volumes for 12 episodes, is that one episode per disc or something? I've heard Japanese media is horrid when it comes to accessibility (with a few noteworthy exceptions like the upcoming Sailor Moon). Why do you suppose Japanese home video releases are so terribly expensive? $60-80USD for 2 episodes, really?

And like you said, even if you want to import a DVD you need a compatible player too. And since I watch stuff on my PC, which isn't region-free, it's just too much a hassle (plus it's probably already breaking some license agreement).

Ugh, it feels good to rant about copyright restrictions, like you said it's no wonder people infringe copyright so much. Copyright infringement will always be a pricing and availability issue!

Crunchyroll is severely limited outside the USA. Most things are actually. Netflix, Hulu, Prime are totally absent. Spotify is mostly available but still limited. Crunchyroll and Crackle are severely limited (no Madoka, for example).

We have to rely on our local copyright monopolists, who often do a suckier job and charge way more for it. Take Transformers Animated, one season here retails for about as much as the full series does in the USA. Or My Little Pony, where all the official sources are only up to Season 2 at the moment, while Hasbro is already prepping season 5. Or Power Rangers, where Megaforce is still showing after the finale titles for Super Megaforce have been announced. Or Star Wars The Clone Wars, where season 3 was showing when Season 5 ended.

Transformers Prime Blu-ray Season 2 was canceled with absolutely no reason after being delayed for a long time.

And of course, region locking prevents importation when I get sick of relying on local services.

Sadly I don't have even a nibble of all those fantastic American services. I do miss my Netflix, I can't watch anything now...
