Well The Clone Wars did it. They showed the people on the sides of the Separatists to be everyday people who thought what they were doing was right. The Separatists believed the Republic to be corrupt and ruled by bureaucrats who exploited the government (and they were right). The episode was Heroes on Both Sides.

Although to be fair, the corruption of the Republic was more implicit than the obvious Separatists.
