Other people's reviews - How much do they affect you?
 

I've noticed recently that I get very influenced by what other people write or say about the stuff I watch, to the point that I could love a show and have my enthusiasm immediately dampened by bad reviews. This is especially true with detailed reviews, that point out flaws I find hard to argue against.

I think this is rather unhealthy because I'm so wrapped up with what other people say. Just wondering, to what extent do reviews and other people's opinions affect your love for your entertainment?

Before I buy a TF I watch a Peaugh and Baltmatrix review to get a good idea of what I'm buying.

I don't watch much Baltmatrix, but Peaugh's reviews are usually rather objective. He seldom comments too much on the more subjective aspects of the figure, preferring instead a more technical approach and describing things as they are. He lets the viewers decide for themselves.

I was wondering, what about other, more subjective reviews? Those that tell you why stuff is actually bad, in their view. Reviews that debate humor, story direction, aesthetics, direction and maybe even performances.

I prefer negative reviews that reveal flaws, in shows, in movies, in games, in toys, etc.
It's also how I like to review things.

For toku stuff I watch dosm rider, shinken shinobi and baltamatrix. For Tf baltamtrix.

I've always been someone who likes to read, or watch a review to make the decision on whether to buy an item or not. Regardless if it's a movie, an electronic, a game, or a toy, it always comes in handy to get another person's opinion on it whether it's negative or positive (unless the review offers nothing, and if it's negative, somebody bitching and moaning over it not having a special feature, or certain details, etc). It's kinda why I became a reviewer. To offer my opinion on items to people to give them an idea on what it the item holds.

They're helpful, especially for eying QC issues and possible breaks but I don't let them influence my final decision.

It varies. EVA_Unit_4A panned the Goseiger stuff and Baltmatrix praised it to the the point I asked him for his opinion on an eBay lot I was eyeing to buy (Thanks again man! :D)
I've heard several negative opinions directed to music I liked and still kinda enjoy to the point I feel like I'm doing something wrong by listening to Nickleback's All the Right Reasons. Or anything Nu Metal/Alternative/Punk/Angry White Boy Music.

And even though TJOmega would hate me for it, I like Armada Hot Shot.
What? The pack-in mini comic that served as the base for JaAM sold the guy for me when I was 8.

i watch and read some reviews to be informed about a toy which is why I like Vangelus a lot. He alone has convinced me to buy the mighty form kuuga of some form or another at some point. He also introduced me to kamen Rider pretty much.

Maybe it's because I like to review stuff (and on this forum at least, much to people's annoyance it seems haha) I've always appreciated reviews.

I've hated that attitude of 'well I want to make my own opinion!'. That is fine, but in a world where nothing is for free it's useful to have reviews so you can make the best decision for yourself, or at least assume the best possible choice for yourself. It may turn out to be completely wrong, but it's still cheaper over all than simply trying every damn thing that even slightly takes your interest so you can make up your own mind.
