Zelda: Wind Waker Remake Headed to Wii U

Welp, time to buy a WiiU. My favourite Zelda game to date.

Just watched the direct myself. Loved the Wind Waker too so I'm happy with this decision. This'll be the second HD remake I buy this year after RE:Revelations.

... Great now I have to actually buy that damn thing.

That looks gorgeous. No intentions of buying a Wii U before this, but this is a good incentive if I ever feel like it.

Lucky me! I have a WiiU all set for this game. Never got to play the original, so this will be fun. As long as the boat parts are fixed, this is a instant buy for me.

Now, I love the Wind Waker, I really do, but I'm sorry. I just can't traverse the Great Sea again.

Does the NEW Zelda game, Mario, Mario Kart, Yoshi's Story sequel, and Smash Bros not serve as incentive to buy the Wii U? Lol. I mean, I'll be getting Wind Waker also. I bought a used copy of the original on a sale at GameStop. I started, but stopped after not getting very far.

The only thing to get me to buy a Wii U before Smash Bros 4 would be an F-Zero sequel.
I mean, seriously. Dafuq, Nintendo. You make my favorite racing game of all time (F-Zero GX), and then IMMEDIATELY abandon the franchise?
And if anyone brings up that GBA one with Rick Wheeler I'll punch them in the soul.

Nope. I have perfectly good games of all of those (that I want). There's nothing the Wii U adds that will improve them enough that I'd be willing to buy the hardware for.

There's a Yoshi's Story sequel coming up? Dude, I'm so happy right now that I have this system for all this stuff.

You're making a statement that says there is nothing that the games can ever do (Regardless of what's known about them) that would make you even consider buying them.

my home theater is in shambles at the moment, I was actively planning on replaying Wind Waker once it was all back together....guess this means I gotta wait.

Its not bad at all but not nearly enough to justify a whole new console.

If they do more updates of Gamecube or older games like this, then I'm definitely in. I'd love to try playing Rogue Leader on that WiiU Tablet.

I don't know if the Wii U is really that appealing yet, but I can see they're trying. Perhaps some time down the line it may be a most desirable for me, like what the 3DS has become. As it is, I think it's still too early for me to adopt a Wii U. :)

No, what I'm saying is that I didn't like the Wii and have no interest in the Wii U. There is nothing they can (or rather will) do with the franchises presented that would change my mind about that. That statement had nothing to do with HD remakes.

And for the record, I am not writing these games off. I'll keep an eye on the ones that interest me, but one or two games will not sell a console I don't like to me.

Shame, considering Wind Waker is the only Zelda worth playing in the last 10 years...

I've heard that Wind Waker has developed a reputation for being something of a timeless classic. I think the cel-shaded graphics will age the best among all the art styles The Legend of Zelda has employed over the years, and the HD screenshots look jaw-droppingly gorgeous.

I haven't been a fan of Nintendo, or Legend of Zelda, in over 10 years. I understand the idea of reinventing your franchise, but it feels like when the Nintendo 64 took over some 15 years ago, Nintendo changed their entire process of games.

It's kind of like Linkin Park. Yeah, the old stuff is timeless and will forever be amazing, and the new stuff has its own appeal ... but it's not what I grew up with, it's not the Zelda (or Linkin Park) that I remember and enjoyed, and because of that, I just don't find myself enjoying it.

Look at the Final Fantasy franchise ...

I? Classic retro.
II? New twist but same overall style.
III? The best of I and II
IV? Totally reinvented story-telling and gameplay
V? Totally reinvented gameplay with the "job" system
VI? Took what made IV awesome and expanded on it.
VII? Simply epic. A sci-fi version of IV and VI.
VIII? Take VII and reinvent the gameplay again with junctions. Awesome.
IX? Now take what you've done in VII and VIII and make it retro-feeling. Awesome.
X? Totally reinvented gameplay and story. Began to lose steam though.
XI? Online, doesn't count.
XII? Uh ... first game to NOT feel like Final Fantasy at all.
XIII? Took the same thing from XII and made it more sci-fi, also not feeling Final Fantasy at all.

I just ... the games of today hold nothing to the games of yesterday. It's all about "show" now, and in my opinion, that ruined a majority of all the great classic games from growing up. Take me back in time where all I can play on my SNES is: Final Fantasy II (IV), Final Fantasy III (VI), Chrono Trigger, Lufia & the Fortress of Doom, Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals, Romance of the Three Kingdoms II and III, and some Mario Kart for good measure.

I think he's referring more to the fact that even for a game made 10 years ago it looked dated. I appreciate what Nintendo is doing, but seriously this is some major filler shit going on here. Wind Waker was a great, fun, different, entry in the franchise but an HD version of that wouldn't be nearly enough to convince me to waste my money on WiiU. Just to to tide me over for another couple of years until an actual new Zelda game comes out. 3 months before the WiiU is the most useless console on the market and Nintendo is already planning it's successor.

To be fair, Final Fantasy hasn't really held up since 8, some arguing that 7 doesn't hold up as well as it used to (I can't comment, since I don't have the time or interest to play 7 again), but everything after 10 was crap.

Anyway, as for Nintendo, it seems like you're asking for the very thing Nintendo has been trying to distance itself from (Outside of the New Super Mario Bros. series, that is). It's why there hasn't been a new Star Fox, or a new F-Zero (*Sigh*), because they don't want to just release the same game with a graphical update every year.

I'll probably get it, but it is going to be a long time before I buy a Wii U. First I need a new Metroid Prime, Donkey Kong Country, and Zelda out before I buy one. Oh yeah, and more games that are original to the Wii U but are not mini game 5 year old crap. You know, REAL VIDEO GAMES!!!

IX was the perfect swan song to Final Fantasy. It took all of the concepts from the original games, gave it the gameplay of the newer games, and came out with one of the best stories in the genre's history (and an ending that did not feel like a cop-out). I've come to the decision that IX was the true final fantasy and everything that came after is not real.

My top 5 favorites go VI, IX, IV, VII, and V.

The thing I've learned about Final Fantasy is that it stopped feeling like Final Fastasy around the time the creator, Hironobu Sakaguchi, left Square (during XII). Hironobu Sakaguchi founded Mistwalker Corporation after leaving Square. While I've only been able to play one of Mistwalker's games, The Last Story, it felt more like a Final Fantasy then FF has felt like in over a decade. The Last Story plays nothing like a FF, but the setting, characters, and storytelling all feel like a classic FF game.

Basically, I'm saying that the Final Fantasy we know and love left Square with it's creator.


PS IX is a glorious game and I hate myself for not getting to it until 5 years ago.

I'll concede that 9 was pretty decent.
I won't say the same for 8 and 10, however.

While I like VIII, it did stop me from playing Final Fantasy until XII came out. I absolutely love XII. I spent 104 hours playing it. It was a blast, but then I played all of the previous games (VII and VIII were the only ones I had ever played before) and as much as I loved XII, it just wasn't a Final Fantasy game. In fact, I might sell off X-XIII because I prefer the games before hand, and if I going to have the time to replay a FF, I would want to replay something like IX.

Back to VIII though, my main problem was the length of the final boss battle and the convoluted plot that seemed thrown together to extended the length of the game. As for X, well, that game is just a train wreck to begin with. Titus and Wakka are two of the worst characters ever, with some of the dumbest designs ever, and the game is plagued with Resident Evil quality voice acting.
