TOEI to film new Legend war footage for Power Rangers
 

Earlier this year rumours began to circulate that an interview with TOEI executive Takeyuki Suzuki in the February issue of Hyper Hobby magazine mentioned the possibility of filming brand new Legend war footage for Power Rangers' 20th anniversary, with all pre-Zyuranger teams removed.

Now, courtesy of Henshin Justice Unlimited user Nerefir the interview has been translated, and does indeed suggest that TOEI will be filming new footage for the anniversary. The translated portion of the interview has been included below.

What does this mean for the 20th anniversary of the Power Rangers franchise? Sound off your thoughts after the jump!

This means that the 20th anniversary of the Power Rangers is gonna kick some serious butt!!!! I can't wait!!! I hope they play tribute to all the series of PR and what made them so unique. I want them to embrace the Power Rangery-ness of the series without regard to the Sentai series. I want to see Zordon, Zedd, Rita, Alpha, Bulk and th return of Skull along with Spike and tons of actors from the previous series. I want to see Dekker wink a nod to him being in WildForce. I want it all!!!!! :D

So...Goseiger or Gokaiger, Bandai? Us fans would like to know so we can come up with crazy fan theories.

Continues to look like next year will be Power Rangers Pirate Force.

Seems like it's shifting very heavily to Gokaiger. I guess filming their own footage would make it easy to eliminate the Goseigers from the series, considering they did nothing significant outside the 199 Hero movie. It's still a big shame though, but at least now we can say that the Gokaiger adaptation won't be entirely a slavish copy.

As long as we get a Jolly Roger megazord out of it, I could live with that name :lol

Seconded. They have to, also learning what became of scotts Red rpm morpher now that vengix is inside of it would be cool too. Fingers still crossed for a phantom ranger reveal.

Quick question...with the mighty morphin powers and zeo power gone, what will they do? Will they pull a forever red on us? That would be cool to see again. I can't WAIT!!!

Until I hear otherwise, I just assume that the next season of Power Rangers will be called "______ Force."

I figure it will be one of two options - either there will be a good reason why those powers are back (and why the MMPR Green and White Rangers are fighting alongside Zeo Red and Dino Thunder Black) or it will all be totally ignored, necessitating a lot of fan theories to explain stuff. I'm betting it's not going to be the former.

Im hoping that actors in the past who had previous issues with the producers or the creators of the show can put aside their differences and embrace this anniversary for the fans that really want to see them come back.

How awesome would it be to see Amy Jo Johnson do a cameo?!

Gokaiger taught me to love and appreciate all the different sentai shows i have no experience with and i hope that it can do the same with Power Rangers in whatever form the anniversary show takes.

I could see either one, but most likely the second...does that mean tommy will pull a gavan? HAHAHAHAHA!!!

Ah, but it technically worked for him, since in-universe they were different characters even if portrayed by the same actor. Which is what made seeing them together funny.

I think they'll just plain ignore that, though. To NOT have MMPR and Zeo rangers fighting would be plain stupid. What I hope they DO remember to do is throw in Titanium Ranger and Phantom Ranger.

MMPR and Zeo fighting side by side could be explained quite easily if you just go with "its the original MMPR cast". The only ones that would actually have problems in that case are Tommy and Jason.

A bigger problem is Turbo and In Space together.

Well, technically there are TWO Tommy's... The Wizard of Deception created a clone of Tommy to use the Green Rangers powers and after Tommy the White Ranger defeated the Wizard, the evil clone became good and decided to stay in Angel Groves past... I think this was from Season Three... Still wouldn't explain having Zeo Red and Dino Black...

YES! :lol but it'll probably be called "pirate megazord" i would be happy just because i would be able to get an affordable gokai-oh out of it, but yeah tommy is gonna be an issue, also considering most of their powers have "been destroyed"

I love how they're skipping over Goseiger in favor of Gokaiger's plot.

This is great news! I am anticipating Saban's decision on what to do next ... though we won't see anything until this winter at the earliest.

No one said they were skipping Goseiger, just that they're making a new Legend War.

Very true, we have no idea in what capacity they will utilize Goseiger or Gokaiger. They could very well mix and match it up with Samurai for all we know ala Dairanger and Kakuranger all mixed up in Mighty Morphin.

I'm excited to see how this unfolds. :D

no bigger an issue than all the Dead members who were present during the legend war. as it is, the second season of samurai and "Possibly" goseiger have given them extra time to think all this out and work on callbacks.

As for Gokai-Oh....... how about we all agree here and now, so matter what the toy box says... it's the "Jolly Roger Megazord" !

I don't know I kinda would have liked to see them introduce the american audience to those previous to zyuranger sentai teams. The idea that they were alien or international teams rather than use the limitations of the americanized power rangers. But it does make fiscal sense admitedly.

The Zeo powers were never really gone, they were just...put aside for the Turbo powers. As far as the Mighty Morphin' powers goes, that's a tougher nut to crack. We know that Adam used his original Mastodon powers once in In Space, but of course, his Power Morpher was broken, and was only able to morph once before the powers went kaput on him. Then there's Forever Red, where Jason morphed using the original Tyrannosaurus powers, and he seemed to have no problems there. Linkara has a fan theory in his History of Power Rangers reviews (which I suggest everyone watch, they're really fun), that the powers themselves aren't destroyed, simply broken. And since the Power Morphers were broken, it's possible that they could be repaired.

That was in season 2, but that's beside the point. My theory on how they plan on having Tommy's various Ranger powers (along with the Turbo Rangers and Space Rangers being together in the same place) is probably through a timewarp, that...I dunno, Saban's AkaRed or Phantom Ranger, used to pull various Rangers and teams of Rangers from different times, which could work. As I said before in another thread, the laws of time and space are downright screwy in Power Rangers. If we can have air and gravity on the moon, we can probably have four Tommys fighting together.

Who knows? Maybe we might get a teaser at this year's San Diego Comic-Con or New York Comic-Con.

man I love that dangling plot thread, part of a story I cooked up once besiclly uses that as a gate way to have the Green Ranger return at any time...but you say it's the clones descendant and you don't have to get JDF back.

It could be cool. It's official that Gokaiger's next up and Goseiger's skipped.

I'd love to see Saban take the beginning of Goseiger until Goseiknight appears, then magically switch it up to Gokaiger (actors change suits) and Goseiknight kind of sticks around as the "help" until Gokaisilver appears.

Prove it.

Because even Saban does not want to touch garbage.
