Are certain Mechs alive?
This conversation was started in another thread so it was moved here to be given it's own life. See what I did :D Made a funny, with my words. Here's how I see it.
Gaoranger - Alive Goseiger - No Gekiranger - Alive Abaranger - Alive Magiranger - Alive Hurricanranger - No |
Actually, Geki's isn't alive.
Well, Saidaioh is (I think. Don't remember), but the main ones aren't. It's just their energy taking physical form. Also, Kakuranger: Alive. |
Let me double-post and explain myself.
Now, I haven't seen Gaoranger. But in Wild Force footage they seemed very much alive. Goseiger though? They weren't alive. They were much Machines, and never once gave any hint I can remember. Aside from Gosei Knight. But I count that more towards his was so badass he had to come alive. Hurricanranger, same thing. They were just animal shaped machines. While Geki they were very much alive, Magiranger is a no duh. I mean they became their mechs. So yea, that counts as alive. And Aba I see as alive to. Goseiger though.. Maybe they were alive to a degree. Change that one to maybe. |
Sorry Sentai. I posted and prevented you from double posting.
And Brajira's other headers were very much alive like GoseiKnight. Perhaps the headers are living but not sentient? |

I don't think the main meka from Dairanger were alive but Daijinryuu (AKA Serpentera) was a god, so I guess that qualifies?

Gingaman as well, right? That one is kinda confusing as they seem to exist in both organic and technological states.

This is making my head hurt.

Concerning Geki, while technically they are spawned from something that is alive, I still wouldn't go so far as to call them living...
And Kaku are definitely alive, Tsubasamaru especially. I'm not sure how they handle Kakure Daishogun, Muteki Shogun is just a transformation technique for them. |
..is there a particular reason Go-Onger wasn't mentioned?

Sentai didn't think of them :p |
Ah, ok. Wasn't sure if they were intentionally neglected for some reason (I missed the thread this discussion originated from).

Wow, how could I not think of Go-onger? They freaking TALK in Go-onger for crying out loud! :lol |
Were Zyuranger's guardian beasts alive? I watched some episodes of zyu but forget whether it was mentioned or not.
|
And what about Fuuraimuru/minizord from Hurricanger/ Ninja Storm? He is one of the few zords that have ever spoken. Now wether he was truly 'alive' and not just programmed is questionable.
|
I'm hesitant to say if the Origami are alive or not. While they behave like living things, they're man made. I think they go in the same category as the Geki Beasts(being sentient, but not alive).

I haven't watched Hurricanger, but what about Furaimaru? He seemed pretty alive in Gokaiger...

So which was the first Power Rangers season to treat the zords as living beasts?
Was it Lost Galaxy? |

Let me ask the group a question -- do you prefer "living" meka or regular piloted meka?
Personally, pretty much all of my favorites are the piloted type (Ohranger Robos, 99 Machines, GoGo Vehicles), but I have a soft spot for the meka from Jungle Fury (have not watched Gekiranger yet), which were non-piloted, and the very little I have seen of the meka from Go-onger had me cheering as well. What about you folks? |

It's kind of a toss up for me. But if I absolutely had to choose, I'd probably say I preferred living mechs.
It just has a greater weight to it. Seeing an enemy monster start slashing and blasting them. With normal mechs, a week in the shop and they'll be good as new, but with living ones, you lose them and they're gone for good. It just feels like there's more to lose, so there's just more tension during series finales when mechs might end up destroyed. Feels like you lost a comrade, not just a tool. |

To me they were all alive.

I don't know if anyone mention it or not, but wouldn't red Lightning and..Mountain Blaster zord be alive in some sort of way as well? since the Mountain Blaster came back to Justin on it's own back in PR In space, and gave him back the turbo morpher?

goonger 's mecha is alive too

I'm not saying he was alive, but Gokai-oh often seemed to change facial expression... So, make of that what you will.
