Kakuranger Toys Appreciation Thread
 

Kakuranger is visually one of my favorite Sentai teams. When it comes to Sentai I usually prefer any team that is ninja and/or samurai themed. So it goes without saying that Shinkenger and Hurricanger are cool in my eyes.

I don't know if Kakuranger is the 1st Sentai team to feature ninjas but it's a pretty entertaining show, from what little episodes I have even seen(not much fansubs out there). As a Power Rangers fan back in the day, I only saw a fraction of what was released, AKA what was brought over here from Kakuranger for Power Rangers.

So with that said, I am pretty sure we missed out on some bad ass toys. I know of the smaller Muteki Shogun. I know of the DX. I know of the DX Tsubasa Maru with electronics.

However I'm pretty sure I'm missing most of the line. What else is there?

I'm unsure of Kakuranger, but I do know of the MMPR releases of the Battle Borgs, known as the Juusho Fighters in Kakuranger. I'm not sure on their exact articulation, but I do remember those toys completely blowing my 7 year old mind :lol

Kakuranger's mecha is one of the reasons I call for a re-release of the MMPR mecha.

Yeah. That's the big reason why I haven't picked up a Shogun Megazord.
Lightning bolt stickers are one thing, but having to repaint an entire arm? Yeah...Not my thing.

I agree. Always irked me back in the day when the onscreen zord was white yet the toy was pink...never figured out way til I was older.

Kimberly was okay but TSURUHIME KICKS ASS. So I would want her zords and figures to be in white!

I definitely would prefer a Kakuranger re-release but it seems more unlikely than an MMPR re-release. Between a pink arm re-release and no re-release at all I'd take the pink arm.

Hell, the onscreen zord was explained as White because it was shared between Kim and Tommy.
Other than the possibility of having 2 White zords on the shelves (Falcon and Kark), I really don't know why it was colored Pink for the toys...

It was a bizarre choice really. I don't really know why Kim and Tommy had to share a Zord. Wasn't the Falconzord a decent enough Zord for Tommy?

Yeah that was weird! I agree, Falconzord was decent enough for Tommy.

But that wasnt the only change. The Blue was made much darker for some reason and the yellow was made lighter (looks kinda KO compared to the japanese version). Oh and the nin kanji was changed to lightning bolt on his chest.

I haven't been looking at Shogun Megazords because of the arm thing, so I missed a lot, it seems x3

Sounds like it might be worth tracking down DX Muteki Shogun over the Shogun Megazord then.

Do any of you have the smaller Muteki Shogun and the Power Rangers Movie Ninja Megazord with Falconzord AND sword? Wondering how those toys turned out. I remember Xmas 95 seeing MMPR movie toys EVERYWHERE especially KB Toys. The year before, MMPR toys were hard as hell to get!

I vividly remember hunting down the Tigerzord and how I just BARELY got it because 1 mom at the store decided she wanted to just get 1 for her 2 sons instead of 2.

That was an awesome xmas for me.

the movie megazord is literally a smaller non transforming chromed out version of the Ni9nja Megazord, I wouldnt even bother unless youre into that sorta thing lol

I have a Shogun Megazord that I converted into a Muteki Shogun thanks to diecast reproduction of the japanese chest logo and sword and reprolabels (all that is left to do is to paint the pink zord white) and its one of my all time favorite sentai robo

In-show Kim didn't have her powers when the Shogun Megazord debuted, or at least the Pink ranger wasn't around (I forget the specifics).

I haven't watched MMPR season 3 in a while but I seem to remember that Pink was gradually sidelined towards the end.

It WOULD be cool if and when Tamashii makes SRC Kakure Daishogun....that the TamashiiWeb/Bluefin exclusive comes with alternate open right hand and the SWORD from the MMPR movie!

Not necessarily.
There are 2 versions of the movie megazord. There is a combining version of the Ninja Megazord boxed under the Movie title instead of the normal MMPR title.

Is it just a down-sized version of the DX or is it a simpler mold?

Two releases. One is the standard Movie release that doesnt decombine. Then there is the straight repack of the DX toy. AFAIK the DX Movie Ninja Megazord has no differences to the normal DX release. Its just in a Movie themed box.

Was Kakure Daishogun more powerful than Muteki Shogun in the show?

Kaku is in the process of being subbed, why not watch it? its up to 20 episodes and the movie done

Oh Kakuranger. No series has given me more problems trying to decide if I would like to collect mecha from it or not.

Tsubasamaru, for being such a simple design, adds such awesome wings to both mecha combinations. Kakure Daishougun I used to complain about being too simple (that distinction now belongs to Gosei Great), but it does have a nice look to it.
But Muteki Shogun.. that blasted thing. I want one, but not at the price it goes for over the Shogun Megazord. I used to make fun of the thing for the whole Japanese castle motif, but man if it doesn't have a presence of power that I like. Also I'm a sucker for mecha with humanoid alt modes (Magiking, VRV Robo)

Just from the design I'd wager Kakure is more suited to fast attacks while Muteki tanks. IIRC Muteki hardly does much in the show. Gets wailed on a bit by the MOTW (unsuccessfully) then bang. Finisher.

The Juusho Fighters do more than Muteki.

Interesting...no wonder the Juusho fighter figures are popular!

Another reason why I'd love to see SOC Kakuranger mecha. Or maybe SRC Juusho Fighters, SOC Kakure Daishogun and Muteki Shogun!

I actually started to last year or the year before. Last I saw, was the episode introducing Jiraya.

I will attempt to catch up and intend to, I am just very very very slow at continuing some series.

Grown Ups in Spandex jointed forces with Hikari-Senshi to get it out faster. The translator re-edited the earlier HS releases to match the finalized translation. It's up to 21 now (plus movie) and they normally release 1 or 2 episodes per week.


Back on topic, did the Japanese Battle Borg toys have the weapons the US versions had (sword and unique)?

I'm hoping to eventually get a Shogun Megazord, a Falconzord, and an extra Pink Shogunzord. Why? I was at Savers a couple years ago and found "Movie Edition Collectable Figures," all 6 unopened and still on their cards. I bought them and tacked them to my wall to resemble the Shogun MegaFalconzord. Tommy's figure does form the head of the display, but since the actual giant shogun robot has a white head piece and Tommy's S3 Zord fits around the Red Zord and in-between Blue and Pink, I see no other way it could have worked.
Either way, GoseiWonder wants a Shogun Megazord. And an extra pink Shogunzord so I can whitewash it.

Also, Frogzord. I love that frog.

actually, i was hoping for a costume change in season 3, i wouldnt mind if they kept tommy as the white ranger for the falconzord and just created us fight footage around him, and kept the kakuranger uniforms for the 5 for the japanese footage, it would look silly having two whites but timeforce had two red rangers so it would have worked out better.

back to topic, kakuranger was a good season, good cast, wish i had all the toys they were awesome only ones i had was us ninja megazord and falconzord, i wanted the shogunzord so bad though, my parents wouldnt get it for me because i was getting old.

i was pissed.

Those are so much better than the US. Sasuke's shuriken looks like a frickin' shuriken instead of a viking shield and the sword is chromed instead of that shitty 90's gold/brown plastic I've come to despise. Plus a tiny Kakuranger that can mount on the back! SO WANT!

I'd like to see how they did weapons for the others, though. The special weapons were all that 90's gold/brown plastic in the US, so I'm hoping they have their weapons casted in their colors.
