Favorite Sentai suit designs
 

TOP 5 SUIT DESIGN (TEAMS)
1. Megaranger. Overall costume design looks simple and clean. Personal favorite.
2. Shinkenger. The kanji visors are nice, the hakama design is well-executed and when they pose as a group it looks nice.
3. Go-onger. The way the seat belts integrate into the costume is a nice touch. The tire/gear/turbine trims on gloves and boots are nice as well.
4. Carranger. The suit details are nice. Best vehicle motif designs IMO.
5. Denjiman. For something that came out during the pre-spandex era, the suit looks pretty cool and the scarf works.

TOP 5 SUIT DESIGN (INDIVIDUAL)
1. Shurikenger. The throwback to Dragonranger Burai is cool to see, and the Fire mode does not feel awkward.
2. Shinkengold. Color scheme is my favorite. Gold goes well with indigo.
3. Goseiblue. The color composition works for me, and his helmet design worked well for a shark motif.
4. Gokaisilver. The bandana design was well-executed.
5. Gekired. The black tiger stripes and red made me forget they have no belts.

Dragon Ranger, or Abarekiller. the absolute best, IMO. Oh, also Gosei Knight.

EDIT: I freaking forgot Bull Black.

Top 5 Team
1. This is probably cheating a little as they're not a full team, but the Goraijers from Hurricanger. I freaking love everything about those suits.
2. Gokaiger. Great concept and perfect execution.
3. Flashman. I love the way every part of these suits flows together.
4. Carranger. Maybe a weird choice, but I've always really dug these suits.
5. Shinkenger. Never got into the show much, but I do like the way the suits are designed.

Top 5 Individual
1. King Ranger (best Sentai costume ever)
2. Wolzard
3. Dragon Ranger
4. DekaMaster
5. GekiViolet

Going to try and use the sentai names, but I don't know them all. So forgive me -bows-

Gokaiger: The upturned collars, the skull relief visors, the cuffs. It all just works.
Magiranger: Capes do wonders.
Dekarangers: The police motifs worked, especailly in SWAT mode.
The Psycho Rangers: Still wishing they would've lasted longer than a handful of episodes.

Like GokaiRed said, Dragon Ranger and Abarekiller. Something about a golden chest shield you have to love. And Killer just looked.. killer.
Solaris Knight/Korragg/Leanbo for looking absolutely badass.
King Ranger: Again, something about a chest shield.

Bull black/Kurokishi has the best suit design IMO. For regular team suits I would have to go with Flashman.

I love the Dairanger suits, Gokaiger suits, Boukenger suits, Super Geki suits as far as teams go

but individuals I like Abarekiller, Dragonranger, ShinkenGold, GokaiSilver and the 2 Gouraijers

Top Five Teams

JAKQ - Sashes are really, really rad.
Sun Vulcan - As classic as classic gets. Without being, well.. Goranger.
Maskman - Classic style with a punch in the face of 80s styling.
Dairanger - Some of the coolest helmet designs in Sentai history.
Kakuranger - Simple and clean wins the race.

Top Five Individuals

Big One - I repeat, Big One.
White Swan - Pulls off white and pink to absolute perfection.
Ninja Black - When I was a kid, I was a ninja for Halloween three years in a row. I think that's all the explaining I need to do.
Kabuto Raijer - How can you not like those designs? They're great!
GekiViolet - He's the first purple (inb4hesvioletnotpurple) ranger ever. That deserves a spot on my list by default.

Miss America - Because....well....nobody else will.........ever.

When I was a kid, I LOVED Dynaman's suit, and then Sun Vulcan's, now? Gokaiger's

I thought the whole team was pretty striking and that the suits ended up working very well. Especially Gold and Silver. But especially Gold. Just having ALL the major colors together (except pink) was pretty awesome to see.

2) Maskman
Never seen an episode. Love the helmets.

3) Megaranger
Pretty good team ensemble. I approve.

4) Hurricanger
Different yet very well executed.

5) Abaranger
Total throwback to Zyuranger and I loved it

Individuals:

1) King Ranger
'Nuff said.

2) Dragonranger
'Nuff said.

3) Gokai Silver
The bandana was pretty slick.

4) Geki Violet
First purple Ranger. I dig it.

5) Titanum Ranger (American Lightspeed Rescue Ranger)
The first American designed Tokusatsu suit and it was pretty freakin' sweet.

Favorite team design for me is probably Kakuranger.

As far as individuals, the Gouraijers. Burai Ranger had a cool design, loved the shield and how he had a dagger instead of a blaster. Kiba ranger was great too..when brought over as the White Ranger his costume stood out.

Sports Bras?? :lol

Changeman was already my least favorite Super Sentai suit before you even brought up the training bras.

I really like the GoGoV (but I am a total mark for GoGoV/LSR). The Flashman uniforms are very cool as well.

I got to thinking that someimes the designs don't alway reflect the quality of the show. Some shows are way better than their designs and others worse. After a quick search I realized there hasn't been a thread on what the best Ranger suit designs are.

So I have to ask, what do you think are the Ranger suit designs? Let's make this a top 5 or 10, whichever you feel like. To help you get started, here's a Gokaiger poster showing almost all teams (missing 6ths, specials, Gobusters, and Kyouryuger)

This is an almost impossible task. My list may very well change in the future, but here's what I have:

1) Gokaiger - Hands down my favorite designs. For me, everything about it is perfect and sums up good Sentai design as a whole. Truly representative of the standard Super Sentai aesthetic.

2) Magiranger/Magiranger Legend - If you'd told me they would do wizard Rangers with capes I'd think it was impossible before Magiranger. Not only have they succeeded, the designs are coherent and beautifully executed. Best part of the designs are the black stripes forming a vague "M" that runs all the way to the boots.

Also, Magiranger Legend is undoubtedly the best-looking super mode ever, bar none. Coherent compared to other super modes, with a super weapon that actually expands on the wizard motif and improves on the core weapon. Man this series is just chock full of good design.

3) Zyuranger - Perhaps a bit biased due to being the suit design I associate most with Power Rangers/Super Sentai as a whole, but it's just classic. For me, it also represents the paradigm shift in suit design that began with Jetman, but was perfected in Zyuranger.

4) Timeranger - Not really sure why I love this so much. I guess I just really like the contrast of the coloured visors against the black of the upper helmets. The arrow motifs were really cool to me too.

5) Go-onger - Took a really long time to decide on this one, since there are quite a few amazing ones left. I went with Go-onger because I always felt the suits had great personality, especially in a series with tons of charm.



Individual designs:
1) Dekamaster - The colours are what really make this design work, but the helmet design, armoured look, and the use of a sword as a weapon all contribute to one of my favorite Ranger designs.

2) Wolzard Fire - This guy just takes the idea of a knight ranger and knocks it out of the park. Red is also a really striking colour, and more attractive than the purple of normal Wolzard, for me.

3) Magishine - It's a bit cheating for me to have two Magiranger characters on this list, but that just speaks volumes of how much I love the Magiranger aesthetic. Love the contrast of blue and gold on this guy, later used to good effect on ShinkenGold.

4) Gokai Silver - The bandana design looks quite good, along with the gold visor.

5) Princess Shinken Red - Biased due to her being the first female Red in Super Sentai, and I also think the Shinken Red design looks better as a female Ranger.

1) Gokaiger because Pirates!
2) GaoRanger because they remind me of MMPR really badly
3) Zyuranger because MMPR, natch

Gekiranger (Though it had to grow on me).
JAKQ (Always loved those designs)
Kakuranger (I love the simplicity)
Gaoranger (They're just really good costumes)
Jetman (Because they look sweet too)

And for the perfect example of costumes that are superior to everything else in the show, look no further than Gokaiger :p
I mean Sun Vulcan. Screw it, both of them.

That'd be either Liveman or Hurricaneger. Probably Liveman.

I'm not really a fan of the Zyuranger suit design. I liked the design when watching it as a kid but now it's not really as good.

Goseiger's suits are pretty cool especially the helmets.
Jetman are really the only older sentai suit design I like.
Gokaiger, I don't know why, I just do.
Dekaranger's just do it for me.
and I quite like Hurricanger's suit design.

If we're gonna talk about individual suit designs too, let me jump on that bandwagon.

1. I feel way too compelled to give this to Go Red. That design just resonates with my a lot more than other generic-looking ones.

2. GekiViolet. Took all of the good design aspects of the Gekirangers, gave him a KaGeki helmet, and made him look like a total bro by having him wear shorts and stand in a relaxed-looking stance. Plus, violet is the best color.

3. ShinkenBlue. I don't know what it is, but that design really works well in blue.

4. MagiRed/Wolzard. They look great with each other, so I'll just count the two as one entry.

5. Kurojishi Rio. I don't care, if this list isn't allowed to have villains I'll count him as GekiBlack.

Liveman, thank you. Ninja Storm/Hurri weren't horrible suits. I just don't like them because the show was that horrible. Liveman though I love.

And don't forget Sentai, one point of the thread was series that had great suits but the series as a whole was just bad :p

Point taken. Add in Ninja Storm/Hurricane for me then to. I did like the suits, aside from Green. That always seemed like a Chinaese Knock-Off of Green from Zyuranger/MMPR. But the rest were fun. And I did like his Battilizer.

i love timeranger 's suits -their helments got diffent shape arrow visors and mouth pices

The suits were great, but I could never get past the colored visors.

Gokaiger: Everything about them were solid and epic, and they looked awesome matter the color. They didn't even have to change much for Silver and he still looked distinct. Saban, do the kids a favor and include them somewhere in Megaforce.

Geki Violet: He's a wolf and the only purple ranger (Wolzard doesn't count), what more do I have to say?
