Karen Ashley Rejects Super Megaforce Offer- NO Disney Cast Too??
 

This video from Karen Ashley, better known to fans as "Aisha," the second Mighty Morphin Yellow Ranger, confirms that she will not be participating in Super Megaforce filming due to insufficient actor pay & the inordinate travel expense related to New Zealand filming.



In addition, Matt Austin (Bridge from SPD) has commented on the same video with the unfortunate suggestion that NONE of the Disney-era cast has received invitations from Saban, meaning he & many others will also not be back.

Hey, guys! I haven't seen anyone else mention this and I'm new to the forum, but I'm pretty sure that means it gets a News Thread.
So Karen Ashley (Yellow Mighty Morphing Ranger Season 2-3) has rejected the offer to come back for Super Megaforce because, surprise, surprise, Saban didn't offer her enough money.

Really, Saban's stinginess is becoming a problem. Karan Ashley explains that she'd love to do it for the fans, but she can't be put in a position where she'd actually be losing money by coming down. Would've loved for her to return, as she probably got the most screwed over in MMPR and she deserved another chance, in my opinion.

Saban just keeps screwing us all over. He could've atleast bought us dinner first.

Well if the no-Disney thing is true, then that's by far the worst news we've gotten about Super Megaforce. That is absolutely shit.
Time Force, SPD, Mystic Force and RPM are the best Power Rangers seasons and only one of those is Saban. I can't believe an anniversary of Power Rangers history would just ignore the majority of its history and characters. That's beyond crap.

I want someone from SPD!!!!!!! I guess they could try for Kelson (Boom), Barnie (Piggy), John (Doggie), or Michelle (Kat). Honestly, though, the Disney era casts should be the easiest to get since they're in New Zealand already. I'm guessing Saban's stinginess really is the reason more actors aren't returning...the New Zealand actors are, arguably, more talented (just look at the resume of the RPM cast) so it's possible they can't fathom what meager scraps Saban could be offering. Can you blame the actors for not wanting to return?

I understand the show has a budget and you can't get back everyone...but seriously? No Disney casts? AT ALL? This is exactly what I said I had been fearing all along, that this anniversary is just one desperate attempt to remind the mainstream audience, "Hey! Remember MMPR? We were wildly popular once even though the plots were not as sophisticated as in later seasons!"

The only other thing I saw Eka Darville star in after RPM was Spartacus: Blood and Sand and he was the prison bitch. He was literally in the middle of being butt-sexed when I told all in attendance that he used to be a Power Ranger. Oh, how we laughed.

But yeah, all this behind the scenes gossip has really soured the potential of the series for me. I'll still buy the toys because they're Gokaigers dammit but I doubt I'll watch the show.

Well. I'm not usually negative about TV shows but...

Man this is going to so half-hearted. No one seems to care about it. Gokaiger it sure ain't going to be.

Agreed. People were downright horrible about Steve but now we have 3 announced rejected invitations and 1 revoked invitation all involving budget and now one of the best PR actors is saying that he doesn't think any Disney-Era were invited it is very clear that Saban is the one at fault.

I'm curious what they agreed to convince him to return in OO now...

Assumedly he did because he loved the fans as he said and he also seems to have genuinely loved his character, too. The reason he's not back for PR is because Saban didn't even invite him back, but he understands everyone else because how cheap Saban is.

It's great that we have people like that.
But it sucks how much Saban and Disney take advantage of them...

I really hop the fact that more and more people are coming forward to say that they either weren't invited or were offered peanuts will stop people bashing stars that genuinely can't take the hit. I'm sure in a perfect world, every actor that regularly does cons would happily do it, but if they're getting actively screwed... I don't blame them.

Well the OO one was a Disney production. Goodness, I hope someone's prophecy a few years back about Saban being worse than Disney doesn't come true.

Considering Disney left us with RPM and Saban came back with Samurai, I think it already came true...

I don't understand why Disney gets so much flak. It had some of the best seasons PR's had, as well as some of the worst, just like Saban had. I'd also argue that despite MMPR being crazy popular, when it comes down to actually good storytelling, Disney probably had more hits and less misses then Saban did (The only true misses were Ninja Storm and Operation Overdrive).

For what it's worth, even Operation Overdrive had it's moments. Like Once a Ranger and Things Not Said.

While I'd agree that Ninja Storm and Operation Overdrive are the real misses as far as Disney seasons go (though I'm not a big fan of Jungle Fury either), that doesn't necessarily mean they had more hits. While I enjoyed SPD and (to a lesser extent) Mystic Force, I'd hardly call them "hits" like I would with Dino Thunder and RPM.

Personally I find on the whole the Disney seasons to be weaker, but not to the level some people claim they are. There's a lot of good in them that deserves to be celebrated just as much as any Saban season does.

I'd definitely consider SPD and Mystic Force as "hits" over Dino Thunder, in my opinion. SPD remains my favourite Power Ranger season along with Time Force ever.

I think people hated Disney's handling because Disney always seemed to hate owning PR. It was like the black sheep of the Magic Kingdom, always tucked away in some corner, with Disney hoping it would die off. PR series were always poorly promoted and ignored and Disney was quite cheapskate in a lot of ways too, such as the whole Omega Ranger fiasco where they refused to hire another proper actor.

Yet, if there's one thing to be said about Disney, it's that they're probably (we don't know the exact inner-workings of either Saban or Disney) less authoritarian than Saban, giving a freer hand for producers to experiment and try different ideas. This produced RPM, which I'll be forever grateful for. I'm guessing their apathy allowed for this, while for Saban, Power Rangers is a main source of income so it's tightly reined in.

Some people hated Disney because they allowed Bruce Kalish to produce Power Rangers for 4 seasons, and they hated Kalish's work. Honestly though, Jungle Fury is WAY more tolerable than Samurai for me.

It's funny that the one show Disney wanted to die always made just enough money to continue :p

Anyway, while Disney had nothing but disdain for PR, under their guidance they created SPD (i.e. the only reason I watched Jetix one year), Dino Thunder (I may hate Connor, but the show was still pretty good), and RPM (I don't even need to say anything about it).
Honestly, outside of Disney fucking over Forever Red and whatever the hell Operation Overdrive was, I really don't see why Disney gets so much flack.

This all rather dissappointing. Bridge was the one ranger that I really wanted to see return.

Steve is still greedy, and obviously Karen and that other lady are too. However, I am done with this. Super Megaforce is going to suck just as badly as Megaforce it seems.

Uh... wasn't Forever Red the Wild Force crossover? That was Saban, not Disney.

Since they can only offer so much money, and it's getting to the point where they have to actually uninvite some people, I'm curious over who is actually returning now...

Now who the thread bout JT that he the death of PR is coming true he needs to also I thought toei was helping on this as well so why can't they pay the actor the proper amount to come back

Disney bought Power Rangers during Time Force.

because of how the casting and bringing them back works with the money.SAG/AFTRA members have a payrate just like a normal job does and the benefits it comes with.if the pr actors come back they would be wasting like a grand or more on just flying to NZ getting a hotel and all that while they are getting SAG rate pays for just a day or 2 of work its hardly work even spending the time to get there.

There's an easy solution to the problem of the actors flying to NZ(btw it is VERY cheap of the production company not to pay airfare - hell, with as many actors as they wanted to show up, they could charter a plane and bring them over relatively inexpensively per person) - shoot the scene in LA. A lot of the actors probably have to regularly be in LA anyway, unless they've completely left the industry.

No. They're not. Not losing money by dropping their entire lives to come over to a different country to guest star in a show made by a company that infamously treats its workers badly that refuse to give a justifiable amount of money for the time, effort and expenses is not being greedy. You just have unrealistic expectations. Hell, the implication seems to be that Saban isn't even offering to pay air-fares or accommodation.
I cannot stress this enough, not dropping their entire lives to guest star on a show they appeared on ages ago for a poor sum of money that doesn't even cover the expenses of appearing on said show, in a different country, is not being greedy.


Wild Force was almost completely Disney, its one of the most common Power Rangers misconceptions.

It makes no sense not to get any of the Disney cast. They're the main teams Gokaiger focuses on. All of the zord powers they get are based on them.

A comment I stand by. Steve IS a greedy individual. Maybe THIS time he had a point, but it wont change that. Its a pity though. Karen is a classy lady all the way. Ans yeah if Sanan is not covering travel expenses, thats some BS. BUT I will say its BS coming from higher in the company than the production side if the money is still like the days of season 2.
