Ultimate Ranger Team Tournament - Blue Division Semi-finals Round 1
Let’s play a game: The Gokaiger adaptation isn’t season two of Megaforce, it’s a brand new series with a brand old cast. The six Rangers are all returning characters from previous Ranger teams, gathered together to face off against the most powerful evil ever. But which six Rangers? That’s where this tournament comes in.
We’re going to cast this team with the very best Red Ranger, very best Pink Ranger, very best Blue Ranger, very best Yellow Ranger, very best Grack/Bleen Ranger, and very best Sixth Ranger. The current team consists of: Red Ranger: Carter Grayson Yellow Ranger: Lily Chilman http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psae0db86c.jpg The rules are simple: the Rangers of each color fight it out to see which one stands at the top of their personal section of the rainbow. The winners will be determined by popular vote, feel encouraged to explain your choices to help sway the undecided. Fights are all-out brawls – any power-up or weapon is permitted, short of the Zords. Battles are decided by random selection and each character is represented for each of their colors (Rocky and TJ are in both Red and Blue, Tommy is in Red and Sixth, etc.). Rangers with multiple powers in the same color will be using the ones which are most unique to them (Adam is Zeo Green, Cassie is Space Pink, etc. – yes, this kinda shafts the Turbo Rangers, I know – all three Turbo fans are free to register their complaints). All major teams are represented, MMPR through Megaforce. Evil Rangers like the Psychos and A-Squad - as well as one-shot Rangers like Cat or SPD Red Bridge - are excluded. Now that we’ve got that covered, Let’s Morphing! -+-+-+- And we're down to the final four. The Blue pool's been marked by landslide after landslide, but from here on out things are going to get tricky as we match up four of the best Rangers to ever suit up in azure spandex. Up first, a match between once and future Red Rangers. Theodore Jay "I only inspired Will Smith in general - After-Earth isn't my fault" Jarvis Johnson http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ps22ae759a.jpg http://powerrangers.wikia.com/wiki/T.J._Johnson vs. Sky "Yeah, it's the future, but I can still be sexist if I want to" Tate http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psfab75fa4.jpg http://powerrangers.wikia.com/wiki/Schuyler_Tate Voting will last 24 hours. Will TJ's luck turn around and take him to the finals this time? Or will Sky SWAT him aside on the way to the final round? Which Ranger will reign supreme? Allez Ranger! |
That SWAT pun was awful. I'm voting for TJ because of it. :lol
Unless someone sways me otherwise. |
Dang, the semi-finals are going to be brutal. The two '2nd-in-command' blues are paired up against each other and the two 'tech support' blues are paired up. Interesting.
Both T.J. and Sky are competent rangers. One has formal police training, the other has 'on the job' training. Powerwise, both are pretty evenly matched and both a short and long range weapon. Sky can go SWAT and spam lasers but TJ's astro blaster can split in two, also giving him dual lasers. I honestly don't know which to go with. |
TJ.
Sky has the training, but TJ has that smile, and, as we established, having more guns doesn't make you the best candidate. TJ is charismatic, he's energetic, he's brave, when given a new set of powers and wasn't picked as Red, he didn't throw a tantrum like Sky. Additionally, Sky had a huge problem working with a team. He's a solo player and he's sexist. I'm voting for TJ because, in the long run, TJ was just better. He may not have the SWAT blaster, but he does have a flying car. |
Considering the weaponry of SPD, why would a military-trained marksman make for a good swashbuckling swordsman?
TJ has training with a sword, Billy has his Power Lances and gun/sword sidearm and Flynn has his Nitro Saber/Blaster. |

Yea. I hate both these two, so I'm out this round.

hmmm this is a tough choice. I mean on hand TJ was a red who has multiple powers and skills. Buuuut sky does become a red as well (I admit I forgot this fact) plus those sheilds! ....ugh......
|
Still not voting because I don't like either one of them. But as I hate them both equally, allow me to add this:
Sky would win between these two if they ever met on the battlefield. TJ just doesn't have the battle experience, and hardcore training, that Sky has. Without even bringing SWAT into this. That being said I don't like TJ. Ward is a good actor, and it had nothing at all to do with him. I just hate the character. And Sky... Sky is an asshole. A complete asshole. And because of his assholishness, I'd urge you to vote TJ. Despite the gap in ability. |
If Sky was on this team he'd get upset that Lily is more hardcore than he is.

I suppose both are equally experienced but Sky was only promoted through the ranks of the same team, since TJ has been on two separate teams and adapted to those roles, I say he is the better ranger.
|
I'm going with Sky.The "TJ has more field experience" rule kind of applies but kind of doesn't.Sure at the time TJ was a red then a blue, but how long exactly was Sky a Blue Ranger? They never really say for sure so he could very well have more time as a Blue Ranger then TJ.
And KRX got it down,he did get better near the end of the series.Any character that can swallow their pride is a great character to me.Honestly they're evenly matched experience wise,so it actually does have to come down to power, and Sky has it in spades.Oh and before any more mentions of flying cars happen,Sky can use a fully armored, fully armed Swat Truck. Oh and as far as Sky not having any sword training, what are you talking about? His first weapon is a sword/baton that doubles as a sniper blaster. So if need be Sky could snipe TJ before he knew what happened,or go hand to hand with him.Same with Swat mode.People tend to forget that most of the Swat Mode fights were close quarters. Win or lose,I personally think Sky is better. But for now I'm going to make some popcorn, next round is gonna be an entertaining one. |
I went with TJ ...his ability to adapt quicker then Sky is what swayed me but while voting for TJ I felt I was giving the win to Billy/Flynn on a silver platter
I have been thinking...should we be voting based upon who would win if the two met up in battle or who would be best for the team? |

But when it's a character I don't particularly care for, I just way out the pros and cons against who they are facing. |
I'm voting on a mix of that.
This isn't the Rider vs. Rider tournament, which was explicitly "Who would win in a fight", but the Ultimate Ranger Team Tournament. You have to be more than just 'The strongest ranger' to deserve the spot, and as been stated numerous times before, having the bigger gun doesn't instantly make you the best person for the job. Power does make a big part of it, don't get me wrong, but as had been stated against Madison, you have to bring more to the table than just a large power load out. |
I'm going with TJ again. He's more emotionally stable, plus his on-the-job experience could play a factor into all of this. We also have to remember that Doggie called both Sky and his team "The Worst Team of Rangers I have ever seen"
Do we really want the worst Blue on this team, especially when all of his faults have been catatorised like his whinyness, his sexist attitude, his unwillingness to just swallow his pride and be Blue all the way until the end? Yeah, I want a guy that can have a positive attitude, can think on his feet and has traveled through SPACE. TJ is a clear choice for me. |

Am I really the only guy who likes Sky? |

The audience isn't meant to like the smug, chauvinistic Sky from the beginning of the series but rather the 'developed into a learned leader' Sky because they've seen how far he's come. |

I just like TJ more. Quote:
Or else every tech head in SPD is SPD Cat, if the powers beyond the mane 5 were rank specific. |
Okay, we've got about twenty minutes left and I don't anticipate a rush of last-minute Sky votes. TJ moves on, which honestly surprises me a little. Not going to complain, though.
|
To me Sky just seemed better at adapting to situations. He had to adapt to being a blue,he realized his teammates were there to help him,not hinder him.He learned, and apparently still did.Tj was a great red,but were judging him on being a Blue.Is it right to use him being a red as a point to vote for him on? That's like saying "I know Sky is gonna be red" or "I know _____ from Megaforce is gonna get the Gokaiger powers" Sure I used that example for Sky too,but I'm just now realizing it's kinda wrong.
Based on them just being Blue during their runs as blue,it's extremely close.Even without the whole Red conversation. |

TJ as Red predated his experience as Blue. You can't just throw out his growth and actions as Red, since he wouldn't spontaneously forget that. Anyway, I want TJ to win the Blue spot, but I don't think he'll manage to beat MMPR nostalgia or Flynn... |
