Ultimate Ranger Team Tournament - Grack Division Round 2
 

Let’s play a game: The Gokaiger adaptation isn’t season two of Megaforce, it’s a brand new series with a brand old cast. The six Rangers are all returning characters from previous Ranger teams, gathered together to face off against the most powerful evil ever. But which six Rangers? That’s where this tournament comes in.

We’re going to cast this team with the very best Red Ranger, very best Pink Ranger, very best Blue Ranger, very best Yellow Ranger, very best Grack/Bleen Ranger, and very best Sixth Ranger.

The current team consists of:

Red Ranger: Carter Grayson
Yellow Ranger: Lily Chilman
Blue Ranger: TJ Johnson
Pink Ranger: Jen Scotts

The rules are simple: the Rangers of each color fight it out to see which one stands at the top of their personal section of the rainbow. The winners will be determined by popular vote, feel encouraged to explain your choices to help sway the undecided. Fights are all-out brawls – any power-up or weapon is permitted, short of the Zords.

Battles are decided by random selection and each character is represented for each of their colors (Rocky and TJ are in both Red and Blue, Tommy is in Red and Sixth, etc.). Rangers with multiple powers in the same color will be using the ones which are most unique to them (Adam is Zeo Green, Cassie is Space Pink, etc. – yes, this kinda shafts the Turbo Rangers, I know – all three Turbo fans are free to register their complaints). All major teams are represented, MMPR through Megaforce. Evil Rangers like the Psychos and A-Squad - as well as one-shot Rangers like Cat or SPD Red Bridge - are excluded.

Okay, I'm not going to waste your time by drawing out the Adam/fish-head fight. Let's move on to something that may be less one-sided. On one side we have a real fan favorite, and on the other is one of the standout Rangers from a fan favorite season.

I'm going to be honest here, I'll be voting Ziggy in every single round he's in. Partially because he's amazing, but also because if this team-up were to happen, GokaiGreen's Sentai footage would perfectly fit Ziggy's fighting "style."

In a fight joel wins. no matter how much we love ziggy, he isnt the one for the team.

Every team needs a goofball. Ziggy is that goofball.

Dang this is a tough one. Both are fairly competent rangers and both were the comic relief of their teams. Joel has better training but has a bit of an ego whereas Ziggy isn't the best fighter but has a heart of gold.

Joel does have a bit more fire power on his side though, with his quasi-battilizer and all. Shadow puppets might have a hard time beating that...

Joel,he has the training and fighting ability,plus the "super mode".He also has a great character. Nothing against Ziggy,I just think Joel would win.I know though that Ziggy's going to win this round,either by proxy of "he's cooler" or "We cant have two lightspeed rangers on the same team!" excuses.

Remember,personal opinions aside.Were judging on fighting skill,character,and teamwork.The ultimate rangers,not the most popular.

That, and...I just didn't like Ziggy. :\

Joel's got the skills to pay the bills. Ziggy is a fan favorite, but he's no powerhouse.

I'm going with Ziggy. Ziggy is awesome.

He risked his life BEFORE he had powers to bring thousands of dollars in medicine to an impoverished orphanage of sick kids even though by doing so, he would cause several Cartels to want him "ghosted."

Still wish Ziggy went up against Will. That would be so hilarious. Especially since this Simpsons clip of Milhouse's Dad and Homer fits Ziggy and Will so well.

Thinking about it more, Ziggy (if I'm remembering correctly) is the only ranger that didn't have much of a choice when he became one. Everyone else had a chance to opt out and been like 'nah man, that ain't me' but Ziggy couldn't. It was either bond with the morpher or let Venjix have it.

So he not only risked his life to help sick kids, but risked his life to prevent evil robots from getting access to superpowers along with saving the last of humanity?

Anyway, I voted Ziggy, because he is a competent fighter and a great stress-reliever.

Ziggy, he risked hi's life to protect the green ranger power before it belonged to him from being used by the villains, and he may not be much of a fighter he makes up for it in personality.

I'll go with Ziggy here since despite being a goofball he, as conundrum correctly said, has a heart of gold. He's also a pretty good ranger despite having no prior training. Joel's good but I just feel Ziggy's more outside-the-box way of things gives him the edge.

He's not my favourite for this tournament though, that's for sure.

I voted Ziggy. I dont get this whole "x ranger is stronger" it aint like ranger X is gunna have his original powers. They have the gokai powers so their old powers seem like a moot point thus Ziggys other skills and heart give him the SLIIIIIIGHT edge with me

Like I said, Ziggy is a fan favorite, but in a straight up head-to-head competition, Joel would leave him laying. Better trained, better fighter, a Super Mode upgrade in the Mega Battle.

Ziggy will win this round, but looking at it objectively it's not much of a contest in my book.

Ziggy because Joel nearly doomed the entire planet by not listening to his friend.

Unless they have civilian powers.

That makes no sense at all unless they're both fighting with the Gokai power load out.
Additionally, Joel's a stunt pilot. That gives me enough confidence in his skills alone.

I assumed, if we're voting on an imaginary battle in our head, they have the powers from the series they are representing to win the Gokai powers.

Yeah, that's how I've been playing it too.

Same here. I've been playing out 'mortal kombat' esque scenarios to decide who to vote for. Thinking about it now though, voting based on sheer power load out doesn't really make sense as those power will be kaput and replaced with the 'gokai' powers. We really should have just been voting on base form power alone (along with skill and personality) because that's all they'll have as a 'Super Megaforce' Ranger.

Sadly though that never seems to help, if we're voting on base powers the SPD, Mystic Force and Ninja Storm teams should basically clean house. Because SPD and Ninja Storm both have the training and civilian powers and Mystic Force had magic.

You can't be impartial when it comes to this, plain and simple. There is no scientific method to determine which character is best because, much like I stated in the blue round for TJ, it's more than just your powers, but how you used what you had, regardless of how seemingly weak they are.
Adding in character intelligence and creativity, and non-strength based attributes such as personality, morality, and mentality, and it's just variable after variable after variable that leads to inconsistencies if you try to keep your judgment the same across the board, because feats and actions can outweigh a simpler power load out.

Plus it's really a question of how far you go as well, since there are no concrete rules in place. Like...should I also be thinking of the team as a whole unit? Could A beat B but then not work with C on the team? So although B loses in say powers or has the weaker personality, should I vote for them because they are a better fit for the team?

I've been imagining this whole tournament as a great contest devised by some omnipotent being that's able to pull the competing rangers through time and space, right from when they were in their prime (righr around the end of their seasons).

It's the only way I can justify a (presently) 40 year old being able to beat a trained 20 year old, in their prime, in a fight. I don't care how much power load out they have, being old is a handicap.
