Wizard Episode 41: "A Wizard's Fate" Discussion
When we last left our heroes they were helpless to stop Sylphi from sending Yuzuru into despair!
Now Wizard and Beast must fight to save him from both the Phantom and himself! Mayu is now Mage and wants to settle the score with Medusa. But does she only wish for revenge or does she have another goal in mind? Meanwhile the White Wizard is still an unknown party! Will we learn why he had the Eclipse Ring made? Whose side is he REALLY on?!? Discussion the magic here! |
Amazing how many people saw this and rated it already. :rolleyes
I don't think the raw is even up. |
Reeeeeally awesome episode
- Mayu didn't die! - She used heaps of magic! (Lesbian "Please" scene!) - White Wizard reveals his true colours and parts of his plan start to be revealed! - Shit hitting the fan! |

... That didn't happen, did it? [Searches for raw very, very fast] |
So we have a new wizard on the scene and he's sticking around for more than his arc? With both that and new light on White Wizard's plan I think Wizard's starting to turn around.
Poor Beast got his butt kicked again in this episode. What is it about that boring sack of crap Haruto that makes the writers power him up to Gary Stu levels? |
Nitou doing the hurancanrana was pretty tight, and Mayu did pretty well in her first fight (wonder how she's supposed to use the left-hand rings with the big claw thingy?)
Kinda sad that Beast got flattened so utterly, but the White Wizard's flute/sword thing is kinda nifty (and, coupled with his behaviour in the episode suggests he's a Pied Piper sort) and the fact that he's not playing around any more makes it clear we're in the home stretch. Pretty good ep, I thought. |
It sucks white wizards figuart isnt coming with what the wiki is calling the hammer cane. It looks awesome.

Just watched the episode. Really enjoyed it. Lots of great fights, and probably the most plot development of any episode since the first.
What struck me watching it is how Wizard is only really good when the villains are brought more into the story. Phoenix's origin was the first time I thought the show really clicked, then Medusa's origin was strong and Gremlin's was fantastic. Returning to Medusa's storyline really gave the episode a lot more resonance than the usual MOTW stuff. Also, the White Wizard?.... knew he was EVIL! Okay, so everyone figured that out ages ago...but still, loved that he's... EVIL! Calling Koyomi as the fifth wizard. |
Was it finally...a good episode of Wizard again?! Is the plot finally moving?! Please don't go back to shit next week, please tell me these last few months have just been getting all the filler out of the way so we can have a solid final ten or so episodes? Please!
I Loved the imagery of the boy giving into despair - honestly there was lots of great imagery this week, Wizard seems to have some really good cinematographers and directors as they often seem to shoot the obvious in a much more interesting fashion. I loved how the Gate was saved by emotional resonance rather than just magic doodads. It really put back in some of the heart that the show has lacked for a while now. Are we gonna get a child Wizard to go with our female one? Minus her ugly costume Witch actually was pretty awesome with a fighting style that seemed to meld Haruto and the White Wizard together. Not only was this cool visually but it gave good consistency to our Riders as well. Seeing her fight side by side with Haruto was awesome. Plus she seems like a good character all round really. All the action was great this week honestly, loved all the unmorphed action, the sky battle, seeing the White Wizard in action and how much chemistry Haruto and Kosuke have grown over the series. I'll always find Haruto especially charming. Also it was nice that Beast finally had something to do, near enough for the first time since his début, minus arcs specifically centred around him. I dunno where all his maturity came from all of a sudden but I'm not complaining. Episodes like this remind me why I loved the series so much when I was marathoning it a few months back. |
I don't know what White Wizard's plan is yet but all the what looks like empty ring holders one his suit and flute sword make me think He is going to do something like KR Eternal when he used the Zone Memory, Possibly he intends to sacrifice the wizards so he can become super charged and destroy all the phantoms with that power, assuming he is goodish and not the real big bad of the show
|
Since he calls Beast an 'archetype' and says he is unusable and needs to create fresh Wizards, I'm wondering if the fact that Witch has the generic goon suit is deliberate for the plot, being a literal pawn Wizard just to be sacrificed.
|
I loved this episode. Such a great one. The fights were good, despite the generic suit, Mayu was a great fighter (Wish she got Explosion, though. That ring seems to wreck house), and Yuzuru actually choosing not to be a Wizard was rather endearing (Though, it seems his choice is nil, but still).
Seeing him overcome the Phantom was a great scene and it was all quite touching. Anyway, interesting that the White Wizard doesn't have any use for Beast. I guess being one of 2 people to dwindle the Phantom's numbers down to dire levels isn't enough for the White Wizard and he needs some kind of grand, mass genocide of the Phantoms. ...All 7 of them. |
Sidetrack a bit here.
I love these things. "Wizard's Fate". :D http://nicoviewer.net/sm20635184 http://nicoviewer.net/sm21184888 |

@ Locke: It's weird that we all seem to like this arc. Funny thing, the 40s of a Kamen Rider series.

I really wish the last 15 or 16 episodes could have been more devoted to the plot. It really would have made things feel much larger, rather than the large chunk of filler stuff. |

I guess it feels like they're trying to pull so many plot twists this late in the game that they're reaching Shaymalan levels, in addition to the normal plots they still have to resolve (White Wizard not being entirely good, whatever the hell Gremlin is up to, a 3rd wizard, and everything concerning Wiseman since we can't keep a scene on him longer than 3 minutes).

For the most part it's constructed well enough visually to care but from a story point I couldn't really give a monkeys. The show does nothing to elicit any fucks from me. |
I guess I just have to hope that it doesn't seem like they're going to rush the plots for the remaining episodes at this point.
Oh well. I'm just thankful for Mayu/Mage. After Movie War Ultimatum, I wasn't sure how they'd handle another female Rider. Now, if she can just survive the entire series... |
Man, when Wizard wants to do a good episode it really does a good episode. Here's hoping it holds out until the very end now.
|
At some point, Toei is going to make the kid playing Yuzuru either a member of a Sentai team or a full-fledged Kamen Rider. He's shown up too many times now not to get a feature role at some point.
The Wizard/Beast double-henshin scene was awesome. I also loved the old school quarry setting. Dirt quarries like this one were one of the main settings for a lot of the old 70s and 80s Rider battles. |

The kid who played AU Wataru and kid Jan was Arashi Fukasawa. |
Excellent episode for obvious reasons. I would like to see no more filler from this point on, just advancing the plot until the finale.
Mage's costume is growing on me, but I cannot fathom the reasoning behind the giant claw. I also wonder how Mayu was able to switch rings without the help of her left hand. Since the claw was pretty useless during the battle with Medusa I would like to know why the claw's there at all. |
Quote:
Like, I'm serious. I'm pretty positive that's the purpose of the claw. Conversation probably went like this: "Why doesn't Haruto just share the base form rings to make Mage Hurricane/Land/Water/Fire?" "...Good question. Give it a giant claw on the right hand and permanently affix the ring there so we don't have to make a new costume." Granted, I'd love to eat my words and see Mage in different forms, but I'm pretty sure the ultimate purpose of the claw is to prevent it. |
I figure it's in the White Wizard's interest to limit "his" wizards' form-changing and power growth (he didn't seem very happy with Haruto's power evolution.) and ensure that however strong they were, he'd have control over them.
So . . .what do we think is the endgame, here? I have a theory: I'm thinking Wiseman was trying to generate enough mana for a Sabbat, but the White Wizard is going to attempt to wipe out all present and future Phantoms at the new Sabbat. |

Mage not only is the simplified mass production version of Wizard, it is also making use the Phantom inside the person. An equivalent of Wizard Dragon Style. The spikes on the shoulders, tail, and the big claw works just like Wizard All Dragon's dragon head, wings, tail and claws. |
Who wants to bet that White Wizard and Wiseman are the same person?
|
Still vastly unexcited by Mayu being a generic Mage. And the thing about comparing it to Haruto's dragon sorta works... Until you remember he has those traits because Dragon is his Phantom. So you're saying everyone else will have the exact same Phantom inside of them, thus explaining the claw and tail? I find that highly unlikely... Also the flappy tail is just plain ugly and distracting in her fight scenes.
But, I did like the White Wizard developments. I had long been on board with the White Wizard = Wiseman train, but now I'm not too sure. We see Feuki releasing Cerberus, which is then seen spying on Wiseman... Perhaps it's intentionally misleading, but it does suggest they're different. |
That idea has been tossed around before.
But having Cerberus spy on Wiseman would be an unfair misdirection. |

...huh now that I think about it.
The engage ring is styled like the white wizard's helmet. Wonder if when ever it's used it does something with the white wizard. |
Another great set of episodes. Except for the piss poor design of Mayu, these episodes were very enjoyable and it was nice to see someone turn down being a wizard. I do wish that they would finally show us someone becoming a Phantom, but at this point, I doubt that is going to happen. I'm calling right now, I still think the White Wizard and Wiseman are the same person and that he only wants Phantoms to draw out wizards so that he may use them to create the Philosopher's Stone (ie Koyomi's body). Anyway, I hope the remaining 9ish episodes of the series remain to be as great.
