do you let people know you like kamen rider
do you keep it a secret that you like kamen rider? For me I am so conflicted. I do want to watch rider stuff at school during break at school but I am afraid of the reaction. One time Someone saw me watching and they told me seriously? And yet this guy like pokemon! Another time when I did someone told me " you still like this sh*t? You're in highschool." I really want to watch it but the thing is I am not very popular at school and I think most people see me as a nerd and no girl I like will ever go out with me. My friend said it is nerdy as hell and I should not watch it in public until I become cool enough or something. Should i take that advice?
|
I didn't come across this problem. I didn't start watching Rider and Sentai shows until college. And no one seems to notice or care when I watch it there. Very rarely someone will recognize it and sometimes will also be a fan. College is a lot more free. People judge you less. Or if they do, they keep quiet about it.
High schoolers can be harsh I think. Don't let it get to you. Like what you like. People recognize passion. In high school I was pretty nerdy and I was pretty recognized for it. I actually got people to call me Pokémon Master. Hence the username. It'll vary depend on the area and demographic of your school I think. Opinions tend to vary quite a bit. Are there not any nerd cliques in your school? Or do you not have other strong interests? If people are having harsher reactions, it may be better to ease into it. |
Okay, I'm in college, I have a large circle of friends, and they know me as the "Power Rangers/Super Sentai/Kamen Rider" Guy. And you know what? They accept that. Sure some people thought of me as weird, but who cares? Your friends should accept what you like, because it's a part of you.
So do I care if anybody knows that I like this sort of stuff? HELL NO. Otherwise, you guys wouldn't even know me. |
I spent my whole life being ridiculed for being a Doctor Who fan (until 2005-6 when it was suddenly apparently cool to like it), so I have no qualms telling people I'm into Kamen Rider and the like. Let them judge if they want.

I suggest you don't worry about it. People may judge you and you might not have as many friends, but you'll get a stronger set of friends who really value and appreciate you. Because of my straightforwardness with my friends, I get to discuss everything from bronies to Pokemon to Star Trek with them. They may not like all of my interests but they respect my opinions. |

I got ridiculed for being a nerd until I made it to college, where all the immature morons were weeded out, and then it stopped. Once you go back into work, where it's possible those who were once weeded out can get back in, the shit might start again but by that point I'd hope you were old and mature enough to not give a shit. So yeah, I tell everyone who asks and anyone who doesn't, it isn't like I'm hiding it.
|
Yea since school I kept to my self until year 11 I was more poem to what I like. But since I went to college I became more open to what I like to and did not care about who was who and I still am going in toys shops and looking at and I did become more open in who I am and what I like
|
Well...yeah I do. I mean I dont run up to them and shove it into their faces but if someone asks me about my intrests the first thing I tell them about is rider.
When I was younger (man I sound like I´m an old man) I would never have done that because I was afraid people would think I am weird. But after a while I figured out that if people like you and wanna be your friends they dont care what you like as long as you are a nice dude. And regarding people that make fun of you because you like rider...those people dont care if its rider or something else that you are into. If people wanna make fun of you or get you down they will find a way so instead of hiding the things you enjoy you should embrace them. |

Well yeah, if they care about it, I don't go around throwing oranges at people and screaming "Juicy", but most people around me know that I like toku, some have even watched it with me.
And ultimately, no matter how much you like one thing or another, that's just one aspect of your life, rude people will always find something to make fun of, but your true friends won't dislike you simply for liking a show. |
It is better to be hated for who you are , than loved for who you are not. I was told that In high school many moons ago. I have lived by that phrase since then.
Never be ashamed of who you are. It is what makes you unique. ( unless you are a pedo...then shame on you ) |

My friends? We all joke at me being the nerd of the group, but its fine. After middle school were I listened to a bunch of bullshit about liking Transformers, I decided freshman year to not give a shit about what others think of me. If you dont like what I am into, guess what? It is my life, let me live mine and Ill let you live yours. Im back into Power Rangers now, sure I dont bring it up all the time, but I will gladly watch it or anything else if I want in public. Hell, I wore an OOO Driver to school for Halloween, I fixed my Zeronos Belt in shop class after one of the wires came off the circuit board. So my point? Im still in High School and I know Kamen Rider, Super Sentai, etc. is nerdy/geeky/whatever, if it is what YOU like- Then DO NOT pay attention to what others think, as long you arent hurting anyone, they shouldnt care. I know I am in High School, I know it is mostly little kids that watch this stuff, but thats complete bullshit, look at this site! Its full of adult fans of this stuff! It is OKAY to like nerdy things at ANY AGE! As TJOmega himself said- "As long as it makes me happy, Ill keep doing it." |

As for me, I never really bothered to hide what I liked. I was teased for liking the Teletubbies when I was in elementary school, but I didn't really care, because I like what I liked. Later, I was a potterhead and everyone knew- they didn't care (though they had other reasons why they didn't like me). Since fifth grade, I've been an anime- and manga-nerd. People tried to pick on me because of that, but I never really bothered and they quickly stopped. After all, it's none of their business what I like and what I don't. For this year of university, I've made some handmade files with collages of Sentai and Rider pictures. Those who see them think they're cool, even if they recognize "the Power Rangers". Also, many people know that I cosplay and they either think it's cool or they don't really care. Seriously, being a nerd becomes less of a big deal the older your get. Just do what you think is right for you. After all, it's your business what you like. |
Of course I do. No reason to hide it.

Hi guys! My name is Lewis and I am excited to talk to you guys.
I am a freshman and my class is too big for anyone to really make fun of you. It really depends on how much diversity there is. For example, I went to a middle school in a rural area and I had problems being myself. Now that I go to a school with over 2,100 kids, my interests are not as important to others. Sure, my friends may call Super Sentai "Power Rangers", but I just remind myself that it's Saban's fault :D (Sorry if I offended anyone). I do not go around proclaiming my love for Toku, but I will never hide it from anyone. You think I am childish, go ahead. I am not going to change so I can be a "normal person". Being normal sucks, I could not imagine life without this wonderful hobby. People's reactions may even suprise you. For example: Today I had to talk to someone about my favorite TV character in english class. Obviously it was Takumi, but to my suprise, the guy looked at my paper and went "Kamen Rider? You mean Dragon Knight?" I facepalmed while he wrote down "Kamen Rider Faiz" so he could try it out later. To conclude, why not talk about Toku? From writing it down on a piece of paper to screaming "HENSHIN!" in the hallway, I really do not see a problem. If people do not like it, sucks for them. Because they are missing out on the best series ever :D! |
I am a super geek, all my friends are super geeks too pretty much. If I could find Kamen Rider shirts I'd wear them all the time lol. I even want to Cosplay different Riders. Also my lock screen's background on my phone is Kuuga and Ichigo, my Text message Ringtone is Yusuke saying Chou Henshin, My notification ringtone is Come On, Banana Arms, and my Ringtone is Faiz's ringtone. I'm proud to be a Toku fan.

Since all the good advice is taken, I'm going with...
IT'S A NERD'S WORLD! BE PROUD OF YOUR HERITAGE! |
I just got the girl I'm seeing in to Kamen Rider Gaim.
I don't openly broadcast what I do. I don't want the attention. This is my side-job, my side-career if you will. I don't want it to become my only career, and I'd rather not try and explain myself to every single person that I deal with on a daily basis. It's different at conventions - I will rep the site with a shirt and hand out business cards and shake EVERYONE'S hand. At a convention, I want everyone to know who I am and what I represent. It's why I'm going to Power Morphicon - I can't afford it so quickly after SDCC, but I need to go to at least represent. |

For me, I promote a few toku shows to my friends (it's great for comedy, too :D). If someone has the guts to make fun of me for it, then more power to them. I'm the one who's enjoying myself. |

I hope you'll have success at Morphicon. |
I let people know I like everything.

I tell people all of the time. :) I'm not here to worry about what others may think of me. Because a person is always going to have something to say about you. It's about being comfortable with who you are, regardless of what others may say/think about you. I'm 36 years old, I've been watching Toku since I was 4 years old. I regular enjoy watching these shows with my sons now. Where's the shame in that?
What the next person eat doesn't make me sh*t. :D So I'm not ashamed of who I am and what I enjoy. :) |
Not specific to Kamen Rider, but yeah, I wear my tokusatsu fandom on my sleeve. Always have, since I was the kid obsessed with Godzilla and the rest of the Toho pantheon. It got to the point that in college I was cited in an academic paper as "Godzilla expert."

I always let people know I'm into Kamen Rider and toku.
But only if it's relevant. |
Why thank you Mr.Kickback and Mr.KRX! You guys are really nice!
Unlike some of my friends, my parents actually don't find toku childish (or so I think). My mother watches Kyoryuger and Gaim with me, and I force my father into buying mecha (I love me some mecha :)). It is nice to have parents that back me up. Although, my dad couldn't stop laughing when I showed him a clip of Pine Arms :D. I am actually sending this from Anime club. There is like 40 people in here! I do not think anyone would pick on me if they know I have an army of raging nerds backing me up! :p |
I don't because I'm a yellow bellied coward.
|
I was teased for liking transformers all through high school, i don't give a flying f*ck what people think

Being in Yr11 at school, I wimp out and tell no-one. Not even my closest friends know I like toku, although I do share my love of pokemon with them. MY brother knows what I watch, but just doesn't care, and all my parents know is that I watch some crazy Japanese show.
|
I'm generally a pretty shy person if I'm around the sort of person who would tease me for liking toku. Otherwise, I'm pretty open about the fact that I collect toys, which usually leads straight into Kamen Rider in one way or another. To a lot of my friends, it's in between Godzilla and Marvel movies on the scale of acceptability. That is, nobody really bothers to judge me for it, since it's so inconsequential to them.
