Gaoranger DX Gaolleries 5 of 15 Soul Bird
 

Tokunation continues to bring you more in it's tribute to Power Rangers Wild Force with yet another figure from Hyakuju Sentai Gaoranger!

Born from the Gao Egg the Soul Bird becomes a new heart for Gaoking! Even after Gaolion's recovery something was off with the great king of spirits, but the baby bird Pyo transformed into Soul Bird in a time of need! By calling out "Soul Drive" Soul Bird becomes a new cockpit for the mighty robo, wether it be Gaoking or Gao Muscle!

The DX Soul Bird comes with scaled Gaorangers to pilot it, a Gao Jewel style figure of Pyo, and has a spring loaded gimmick which shows off the the Super Animal Heart attack. It oddly also features the ability to combine with any compatible Gaoranger mecha torso as an arm, though this is a toy only feature, never used in show. To accomplish this the skis/wheels section must be removed from Soul Bird but they likewise can be used for an official though toy only combination with Gaolion.

didnt know they actually made a toy of that. its an oddity for sure. it feels so out of place amongst the rest of the mecha and looks like it belongs in RPM

Soul Bird always confused me. I think it's because it had no real reason to exist in Wild Force other than they needed to use the footage.

The Arm mode though looks great, and GaoLion looks like he's enjoying those skis :lol

I use to have a Soul Bird, but mine was much bigger and could hold the 5'inch Rangers. It could also plug into the TV as a video game.

The Ultimus megazord came with a Soul Bird too but as a limb.

It's the same mold as the Japanese DX as well. The Ultimus set however is very odd. It's using the right arm and torso of Gao Knight but rather than release Gao Elephant to go with it as it properly should have they included Soul Bird and repainted the motorized Bison in Purple.

It even includes the gray disk you use as a torso filler to allow Gao Muscle to combine without Eagle. Very Strange.

Unsurprisingly, the only WF/Gaoranger zord I don't like. It's super weird and doofy. I'd ditto what was said about RPM, but even RPM's zords weren't this dopey.

One thing I wonder, how would the Gaoranger Ranger Keys look in that? Man, GaoLion is having fun there isnt he! :lol

You have to remember that Soul Bird isn't technically a Power Animal either. It's not counted in the 100 PA's though it serves the important function of cockpit, heart, & soul for Gaoking. Sould Bird is a living Gao Soul given a physical form so it wouldn't necessarily share the same design characteristics as the other Power Animals. The other 100 were created simultaneously more or less.

The overseas release of the soul bird (in the Ultimus zord) is a different mold, right? Got it in my hand right now, it looks a lot less wide.

I don't understand the point of the Ultimus combination at all. Maybe it would have been more believable if they found a different way to attach the bird, but it doesn't look like it belongs as an arm. It's a really cool piece on its own though, especially the BoJ version with the mini figures.

The point of Ultimus was to release Soul Bird and the red gorilla in US. And since Megazords sell better than solo zords, they threw in shark and purps bison so that kids wouldn't just have a gorilla and brick that did nothing.

I guess the market was different then, but they seem to have the exact opposite strategy now. If the Wild Force line was released today we'd have the main megazord and 15 different "zord w/figure" packages.

Yeah, I guess that was before they thought of repurposing the zords as ridable vehicles.

why release the red gorilla in the use when it wasn't on the show? still it was a nice thought but they should have given us other zords too

Becasue it's an easy retool.

I ahve no idea how BOA operated and got figures produced back then, but maybe since 80% of that toy was already produced?

Since they were forced to sell them as complete megazords, I can only assume the bison was more cost effective than the elephant.
