Favorite Godzilla Friend/Foe?
 

Back in my high school days, when I'd repeatedly check out the Official Godzilla Compendium from the public library even though I knew most of the facts within by heart and even the factual errors, one of the quirkier choices of the book was one of the facts it included for every contributor. As part of the very short bios included for each person was "Second-Favorite Monster". It was a cute little reference to the assumption that Godzilla was every person's favorite monster, which made sense in its own way. Daikaiju eiga would never be where it was without Godzilla; no number of (now lost) King Kong clone movies would change that.

I wouldn't make that assumption myself, especially these days and in a community like this where opinions of monsters of any kind can vary wildly, but it does sound like a fantastic basis for a thread! So, given the Toho pantheon of giant monsters, what ally or enemy of Godzilla do you like most, and why?

Moguera. The new one that was in SpaceGodzilla. I love that giant Mechanical menace.

Gigan is my absolute favourite, because what's not to love about a cybernetic chicken with blades for hands? Megalon is another one I really like for similar reasons...a bug with drills. Also his hopping is hilarious :lol

Its just a shame those are two of the weaker Showa films. Gigan got redeemed somewhat in Final Wars, but I'd love to see Megalon get updated.

Honourable mentions to Mothra and Battra, as Godzilla vs. Mothra is my favourite Goji film.

King Ghidora, because he's a three-headed dragon. From a design standpoint I like Destroyah a lot. I like a lot of the Godzilla designs a lot. Biolante is cool too, he (or she, I guess) reminds me of Perfect Chaos from Sonic Adventure (Yes, I know Biolante came first)

THis is tough. My favorite friend is probably Rodan.

My favorite villain is hard to say, but Biollante, Ghidorah, and Gigan are in there. It's just a shame Gigan has yet to be in a good Godzilla movie.

Surprised no one's said Destroyah yet.

I have no idea what it was, but the moment I first saw Mothra, I was enthralled. She was easily my favorite monster, friend or foe of the big G. I know she doesn't have the most impressive track record, but I love her all the same!

Kiryu/MechaGodzillla.Firend or foe,how could you beat a mechanical version of the big guy himself?

Gigan always been my favorite since I love his design. Even as a kid, I love how cool he was. Godzilla vs. Gigan was the Godzilla movie that I watched the most as a kid.

Kiryu a.k.a Mechagodzilla 2002. I have hardly watched and Kaiju stuff, but Kiryu is just my favorite.

...is neither friend nor foe to Godzilla. :p Even on the level of being a competing franchise, no Gamera movie has gone up against Godzilla directly since the 70s (Mothra Leo was fair game).

It occurs to me that I hadn't answered the question, but no matter how much I enjoy the variety of the Godzilla pantheon, the winner's always Gigan. The cyborg menace whose body is made entirely of weapons, a villain with an impossible-to-miss streak of cowardice and a flair for showing off his destructive ability, and in two distinct flavors to fit tastes old and new! My love for him is rooted in the classics, but Final Wars Gigan has a place in my heart as well for his over-the-top weapons and for striking a pose prematurely.

I dunno why I've never posted in this forum yet seeing as I've just about seen every Godzilla movie at one point or another aside from The Smog Mosnter.

Favorite friend is hard to choose. I guess it'd be King Caesar/Shisa, but Mothra, Rodan, and Anguirius are sorta close.

Favorite foe is Gigan though. Baltan II's got the right idea.

My favorite Godzilla "friend" would have to be Mothra. She seems to be the most reliable out of them all.

And my favorite foe would have to be Mechagodzilla. Which version? All of them. But MG3 especially.

Favorite friend would have to be rodan for nostalgic reasons. Favorite foe ill give it to megagirus. I tend to love stuff with copying abilities.

Friend : Anguirus
Foe : like most of you, Gigan is my fave. Showa Gigan that is.

Also, I really like Mogera & Jet Jaguar.
