Rider designs that you feel where wasted on their Rider?
Essentially, is there some Rider designs that you feel were undeniably awesome, but were given to, more or less, crappy users?
I think the primary offender is Kamen Rider Gai. I didn't realize how awesome Gai's design was until I got the SHF. It's seriously one great looking design and I really appreciate it in certain poses. I kinda like it for the same reason I dig Tiger's. Black and silver is a classic color combination that's hard to mess up to me, even with the addition of other accents (in Tiger's case, blue, in Gai's case, red). But I actually enjoyed Tiger as a Rider as well. Satoru was just freakin' nuts with a chronic traitor disorder and I genuinely enjoyed seeing him literally backstab everyone because of his utterly insane logic. When I see either of those designs, I imagine an honorable knight who probably realizes that what he's doing is wrong, but believes that the ends justify the means. Or something else that's just as self-loathing. Except Gai was at best, a troll, and at worse, some idiot kid. I mean, I get that that was the whole point of his character but couldn't you have given him Scissors' design or something? Hell, I think Verde would be an awesome design for that type of character with the yoyo and how goofy his Final Vent is and c'mon...Verde just looks like the type of guy to troll you. |
Imperor, also from Ryuki. I love how it's designed, but he's a one note nobody that serves so little to the plot it's embarrassing. It's less that he's a bad character, and more that he's completely no one, which could arguably be worse...

Knight. Looks so cool, wasted on a angsty prick.
Kiva. HARD-FUCKING-CORE, wasted on a whiney little baby-face. |

But I think that's just a product of how Ryuki is. I mean, you have 10 Riders show up throughout the show and 3 of them were worthless... |

I also wish TheBee had a proper identity instead of just being the loaner belt. |

God - where the hell do you even start with this?
I think my number one choice would be Meteor, even without the Bruce Lee with planets business, his design is really unique, fresh and awesome. But I honestly don't remember a single thing about Ryusei. And when the design of the Rider, and the way they fight, is ultimately more memorable than the character themselves. There is a problem there. |

About the only thing I remember about Ryusei is after he was introduced the show decided to try and have a plot and swiftly crashed and burned.

How many episodes was Kamen Rider Abyss in?

That Shark motif need more exposure. Though I'm not sure if that qualifies as "wasted." |
Actually he totally was in Wizard. In the final 2 episode story where all the kajin revived to fight the Heisei Riders.
|
Actually speaking of Wizard - White Wizard is another high one on my list. Such a cool design, it had so much presence, was so cool looking and was in such contrast to Haruto.
But basically all Fueki did for most of the series was dump exposition and stand behind a curtain. Right up to his death he spent so much more time in Phantom form I dunno why they bothered to put so much effort into his suit and so little into the Mages. Even though the Mages ultimately did more and had more screen time. If I remember correctly he only had a single, proper fight in the whole series. Fucking waste. |

How about Kiva's Bassha Form?
I mean it pretty much got forgotten about once Kiva got emperor. He never even bothered to use Bassha Fever. |
Kamen Rider Arc, from the Kiva movie.
Somehow, he's even more awesome looking than Kiva. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3149/...1fd196330c.jpg http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s...Knight/arc.jpg |

That costume would have been better served as a dark alternate form for Kiva. But let's be honest here, the entire movie that it's from was crap. That design and Rey were the only two good things that came out of it. |

Arc's should have definitely been the design for Dark Kiva. |

All the main Kiva Riders except Dark Kiva.
Kabuto and The Bee Faiz |
Saga was the worst. It should've been a knight instead of a king.
Fourze: - Fourze's design with the helmet is the worst. Wizard: - Mage. It shouldn't be used all the time. Mayu, Yuzuru & Yamamoto should've been their own riders. A witch, alchemist & necromancer. |

Ultraman Arc... I could see it. |

I will agree with TheBee being a waste because no one had it by the time Kageyama became PunchHopper.
the Delta belt in Faiz should have went to Yuuji or Kaidou. Can I complain that Hyper Gatack was only in the Hyper Battle DVD and that was a waste? |

Also, I'd like to add Sasword as well.
Not that I hated Tsurugi, in fact, I felt that he was a nice contrast to the rest of melodrama going on when he actually developed a character outside of being Tendou rival #23. But it seemed like towards the tail end of Kabuto, they just didn't know what to do with him so they basically made him a joke character that never did anything and then by the time they finally decided where to take his story, he doesn't even transform into Sasword anymore. It's absolutely criminal that the two best Rider designs in Kabuto IMO (TheBee and Sasword) were just tossed to the side abruptly in a way that I feel is almost worse than simply having a terrible character don the suit. |

I'd rather have seen the Mage and Element Style costumes blurred together, with the show having four core Rider's throughout. Haruto could have been the Flame Mage, Mayu the Land Mage etc etc |

I LOVED Wizard, but I found the last ten to fifteen episodes mind boggingly dumb as shit came entirely out of left field, to go nowhere and never get properly explained and otherwise great concepts introduced and snatched away sometimes within the same scene. Blah. |
I've always felt Kabuto was the worst offender as series that wasted amazing Rider designs. Some of my favorite designs come out of that show, but the show itself is just so...underwhelming that everything feels wasted in there. There's a sense that the head writer didn't care for anyone who wasn't TheBee, Kabuto, or Gattack, leaving the other Riders to get tossed around sporadically. It's such a shame when you have great designs like Sasword and Drake and just never do anything meaningful with them.
Kabuto was one of those shows that had everything going for it and then completely drops the ball. The head writer is a guy who doesn't care too much for toys, and it's good that he prioritizes his story over the toys, but at some point you need to realize what you're working with. He should have known from the start that Bandai would be giving him all of these Riders and should have begun finding better ways to use them in his stories. Instead we get this revolving door of great Rider designs and interesting characters who never really do anything interesting when they're around or matter to the plot at hand. This is one of the reasons I'm so glad we have such a talented writer on Gaim. In the hands of someone who didn't care as much, we would have a show with a slew of inconsequential Riders. |
Dark Kiva has a great design, but it's original user in the past is incredibly boring and despite being the reason Kiva is so feared in the present he did almost nothing threatening or relevant as Dark Kiva.
Out of the other two users Otoya used it well. |
Since Fueki witnessed Wizard's Infinity style, if only there was a way for him to take advantage of that form.
If he'd had stolen the infinity ring from Haruto, he would've given some other chosen mages the same power as Wizard. That would've been better than having the same Mage suits. After all Mages are only riotroopers. |
