Power Rangers Super Megaforce Episode 2 "Earth Fights Back!"
The Rangers discover a Legendary Zord Database Troy learns of a New Armada Plot Will they ever find RoboKnight? Can the Armada be stopped?! And a New American team?! (DaiRanger comes to America! .. Sort of) Go Go Megaforce! Go Go Super! Go Go Discussion! |
Looks like we are off to a good start.
|
Anyone else get reminded of TJ's salad quip when Jake did that whole sweeping joke?
Just me? |
i'll be honest it wasn't as good as the first episode to me. the whole episode seemed a little rushed. i did like the way that the dairanger suits were used though, i kinda hope they still do their tribute episode so they can give some backstory to the team.
|
They won't. The most we'll ever get is "Let's use those new powers again!".
|
This episode was definitely rushed, but honestly? It was okay for the most part. A bunch of original footage and unmorphed fight scenes, which was pretty cool. As was the final scenes of the rangers on the sky ship.
I don't care what anyone says though, the Dairanger scene was complete bullshit. Gosei literally just says hey here's some new never before seen powers, haha and that's it. Also they spliced a scene of the megazord attacking the Armada from Gokaiger's first episode. Which, while, it does give a reason for the Armada not to send millions of goons every episode, but....why didn't they just attack the main ship again? Prince Vekar is acting more... Warz Gill-y now, it seems. Still thinking that Argus might be Roboknight. Maybe. Hopefully. It'd be super mega lame if Roboknight just shows up at the legend war with minimal explanation...which, unfortunately means that's the most likely option. And that...was more words than I thought I'd write about this. |
Remember...Neo-Saban's not consistent
Okay, just saw the episode. Will try not to give away too much, but will comment on certain elements. Earth Rebuilds (or the kids help Ernie rebuild while the Earth is supposedly doing the same). Vekar decides to attack major cities around the globe (such cities are not named), which sounds like a beautiful plot line (akin to JAKQ vs. Goranger). New footage of Goseiger/Megaforce suits fighting Monster of the Day and X-Borgs. Weird Dairanger cameos (which makes one wonder about the RyuuRanger cameo we've been seeing in Troy's Legacy Dreams). RPM cameos which show someone is trying to pay attention to 20 Years of history. New Zord and New combination. More footage from Gokaiger Ep. 1 is clearly used. All in all, good, but not perfect. I will say that the effort with the new battle footage is nicely done, but seeing as how something like that was actually the norm way back in the ancient times (the '90s-Early '00s), it's not as big as it could be, but still, kudos be where they should be given. There is definitely some sense of thought, but it drags exactly where and when it should be flourishing. We can only hope that things will tighten during crucial moments.

Howling does it take for the episode to be up on nick.com

ok that make bbc iplayer slight better due to the fact it up on BBC UK player hour or 2 after it aired. i live in the uk i just got acces to be able to watch stuff in the US
|
I enjoyed it to be honest. I just went to Youtube while watching it and played the SPD opening while they were using the powers. :lol
But... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_hUZEuSGA4 And that's just because they used RPM. Seriously that's the one thing that bugs me because they established that that's a different dimension. |
Well I enjoyed this episode, it was good, loved the original scenes as well as finally seeing the Dairanger suits again.
I would of liked to have seen Jake ask Gosei "Why is my key still green?!?" But hopefully that joke will come later on. Now as for the Dairnager suits, a part of me wanted to see Noah ask about that, but I get why he didn't, considering he probably hasn't learned about all the ranger teams. |
I liked the episode, I'm glad they didn't include that annoying cheesy ass victory quote at the end of the battles. All in all I enjoyed it.
|
has anyone brought their toys besides dairanger and rpm keys out for this episode?
|
Why am I enjoying this so much more than that mediocre show with bad acting called Megaforce?

I was well and prepared to vote excellent, then I heard Troy strain to say Super Mega Win again and that ruined it.
The episode was decent enough. And he said Yes, Boss! So glad they kept that in there, and Isarn. The handled the SPD episode pretty well but still disappointed that they didn't bring back Doggie for the episode. |
Second Response...New Theories
Okay, so I responded once and I will respond a second time because it might deserve it. After thinking this over a bit, I've have my own ideas for this. Granted, this is all wishful thinking and more akin to fan-fiction than official canon, but still, I think it has merit. Quite frankly, they should have cut the Dairanger use out of this episode altogether. I can understand why the Dairanger keys were used here (the Gokaiger episode they adapted) and that Saban technically had rights to use Dairanger (MMPR S2 and all), hence why they probably added Gosei's "Not seen on this Planet before" line, but it would have been better to fill that time with plot building. Seeing as how they did use original footage with the Goseiger/Megaforce suits, why not the Ultra Mode. My Idea: Use a copy of the Aurora Box to capture the Ultra Mode Zords. That way, the Megaforce Original Mode is left without a power-up when the battle is too intense. Have one of the recurring villains use an Aurora Box prop to capture them and leave justification as to why SMF keys are needed. As to Dairanger, save them for another TV movie akin to what we got with "Clash of the Red Rangers". Have the production team view the entirety of Gokaiger and note each episode with significant Dairanger change usage. Then wrap that together into a new movie with new footage. Use something like "Mighty Morphin' Star Rangers" for the team and even show a backstory, digitally remastered Dairanger footage, new footage, and just for kicks, go ahead and throw a retcon explanation to Scorpina. And with that, we have an acceptable nod to the only team (from Zyuranger onward) that Saban ever skipped (save for the White Ranger, and of course, we haven't even touched Dino Charge and the Go-Buster skip yet).

This episode gets a "Poor" vote from me. I'd actually give it the second-last option if I didn't think "Alright" was too close to "Average", though.
The episode was extremely "Megaforce-y". By that I mean it was jam-packed full of nothing. There was no real plot beyond an excuse plot (aka the Gokaiger episode's plot minus absolutely all the actual plot) to get to fight scenes and it was just absolutely full of filler. I fully support original footage being made and this episode had a heap, but whats the point when all it is is 5 minutes of them fighting mooks with nothing to further anything? The fact that they already have all the zords is also incredibly lame and lazy. Can't have them actually thinking about a plot! And yeah... Dairangers. I think we all know how stupid that scene was and the Gokaiger Ep. One Space Battle was noticeably tacked on, but once again all it was was filler because there was no reason for any of that footage to be used outside of filling up the run-time. It resulted in nothing. I also have a problem with how bad all the sound effects are. Absolutely everything is the same few "laser" noises repeated over and other, from activating keys to machine guns. Pat Striker lacking Dekaranger/SPD's signature siren also really sucked, even though it was still there when they changed into the SPD Rangers. Not having anything to make the "true" SPD transformation scene special really sucked. Its still extremely disappointing that we are obviously not getting tribute episodes outside of Samurai and possibly Jungle Fury, as evidenced by this former Dekaranger/SPD episode, but I'm going to get over that and move on. Maybe I'm nit picky, or maybe this episode was just bad. |
It's a massive shame that they used the Dairanger bit in this so badly because otherwise I thought this was a really solid episode, dare I say it better than the first.
I'm done expecting tribute episodes so I don't really see the point of complaining that week after week. I'll just try and act like I haven't seen Gokaiger because then that way I'm not expecting a PR repeat of the thing and just watch it handle things in its own way. Them already having the zords kinda makes sense since if the powers exist than naturally the zords ARE ALSO gonna already exist, so the Delta Runner coming in the way it did was perfectly fine with me. Really its only Gosei's BS explanations that spoil the flow of things. There was a great amount of new footage in this episode which makes it even more non-sensical that they had to go and use the Dairanger bit. If they wanted to put it in as some sort of fan-service than fine whatever, but the writers could have at least tried way harder than that. Or better still they could have just done what they were doing before the Super Mega modes came into it and kept shooting new stuff. I thought the bit of them fighting the Armada up in space was a nice addition, but it would have been a bit better if they'd been able to throw something in about them only being able to do so much against the fleet or something. That way it wouldn't have felt like they were randomly giving up half way :lol |
I agree Gosei's "explanation" really screwed things over.
In the first scene with Noah he discovered they have access to all the previous Zords already, however when they actually used the Delta Runner Gosei was all "You've mastered the SPD Rangers powers and so now you've unlocked their zord!". But how? What did they do differently with the SPD Rangers then all the previous changes and what the heck does he mean by "unlocked?". Same thing with the Dairangers. What did they do to unlock them? What does unlocking them even mean? |
I only had a few real problems with the Dairanger bit in this episode. One was Gia using Drunken Fist and it having no real context, or explination so it looked like she was fainting instead of fighting. And the second was Jack using the broom, and again, having no real context about where he found such an old broom in the middle of a vacant lot.

Loving this episode and that i got to watch it on hulu without commercials is a plus. So wasnt that scene of the megazord going through the armada from gokaiger 1? The explanation of the delta runner was lame, where did it come from? Still i dont see a way around it in a 20 min episode without introducing time traveling spd rangers.
Also, where the hell are the other rangers at when earth is being invaded? Do they not have powers at all?(assuming whats in the cave is their powers?) |
Yup. Building a damn juice bar really sticks it to an evil alien empire :rolleyes
Yet again I feel like I have to be brutally honest: -You'd think over a years worth of acting would have given some life to these pieces of cardboard. Seriously. There's still a major drain of acting talent with this cast. -With EACH new power comes new zords? Yeah you mean like 5 zords? So how does that work out without new footage that'll never exist? There's 20 years of Power Rangers. -A database? Seriously? Car zord?! You know what, where does the footage of the Legendary Megazord using the powers in the database even come from when they haven't even used them yet? Explain that one. It was literally the footage from later in the episode when they actually used the powers. -This nonsense of trying to keep the Goseiger/Megaforce costumes ruins any flow that could have possibly existed during these fights. The abrupt change from Saban Megaforce footage to Gokaiger stock footage hurts. Whiplash inducing. -The villain dialogue continues to be an absolute joke. There's no taking it seriously, even for children. "Why do i have to wait til nightfall? Because that's the way the clock's set." That scene isn't even in the Gokaiger episode this episode is adapted from. The ADR continues to be awful and utterly devoid of context and emotion. -Dairanger suits? The most lazy piece of editing Saban or Disney have ever committed on this franchise. "New modes never seen before on this planet" is the laziest excuse of an explanation I've ever seen for bad editing. Absolutely terrible and clearly disregarding of the audience. For a show which was billed as the "most expensive" biggest 20th anniversary "for the fans" there's literally nothing that proves that. It doesn't matter that it's a children's program. Its insulting to the kids who watch this to assume they just won't care or notice and their parents viewing it with them won't either. And it's insulting to fans who were promised something special, that they simply aren't receiving. Nothing but lazy here. Saban spent a year hyping this show as the ultimate tribute for fans and has lied in the most literal sense. -Why the hell do they know what RPM is if it's from another dimension? Again horribly lazy with no explanation at all. -Still with the lack of call outs by the Legendary Morpher? That kills the cross marketing opportunity this show could have had with the toys. -At least they name the megazord combos here unlike with the toys. -Earth just invaded by a nalien armada, so a flying pirate ship seems logical to just cruise over the city with. This show continues to be the biggest disappointment I could have possibly imagined. It's insulting to fans and to children. It's poorly made, edited, and paced. And the fact that anyone accepts this subpar product and are happy about it, means Saban will continue to create such nonsense. |
Well said, Den-O, well said.

Its dumb that it was the same footage from later on but there being footage in the first place isn't illogical. |
Seriously, every time some one even mentions the things Den-O just did ,on other forums and places around the internet, you get a glorious round of "we knew it wasn't going to be brilliant, it's just a kids show by a notoriously spendthrift company, lighten up, dude."
But I'm with you Den-O. This show is a huge insult to almost every one concerned. Older fans, kids, writers, people who know even a little about ADR and audio mastering... It genuinely saddens me that people recognise the flaws it has, and still make excuses for it. Like that'll make things any better. Opinions are opinions and people are allowed to have them, but when you're trying to justify why whats happened doesn't matter? Well. |

I only watched the last five to seven minutes of this episode, and that's all I need to see to know that Super Megaforce is a Super Mega FARCE.
I'm sorry (both for my opinion and that pun), but shoehorning in as much Gokaiger footage, including the Dairanger footage, as humanly possible, doesn't make this season "the biggest budget for the entire series." That's being a lazy, lying jerk, Saban. It's made even lazier when one of the commercials you showed at ToyFair has a clip from TV-Nihon's fansub of Gokaiger. I'm not making this shit up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2OalZlGu0E You shat upon your own continuity, fandom, and franchise that you yourself have built up for over twenty years, even during Disney's tenure of owning Power Rangers. If Super Megaforce is your way of saying "this one's for the fans", then screw you, Saban. I think Den-O put it best. Quote:
