Using Sentai-only Rangers in Super Megaforce
You knew it was going to happen (a poll, that is).
So the question is simple - is this a good thing? A bad thing? Or do you not care? You can leave your opinions on HOW they should have explained them, or whether or not you feel they should be included in the first place, but for the poll's sake, it's a simple "Yes/No/Don't Care" poll. It will remain anonymous, as I truly feel that some people might target those who vote "Yes" publicly or worse yet, privately. Go! |
BAD.
|
I'm okay with them using Dairanger because it's "technically" a part of Power Rangers lore... but Flashman and Maskman is just unacceptable and lazy!
|
I'm ok with Dairanger, and Maskman and Flashman appearing gave me ideas for my fan-fiction...... Still wish they hadn't just tossed Maskman and Flashman in the season though...
|
Bad, and makes me want to punch Saban in the face for leaving in Yellow Mask and Pink Flash.
|
I'd just like to say that I'd be perfectly fine IF they gave an explanation as to where the powers came from. Oh, and the whole "New Powers" thing ISN'T an explanation.
|
The reason that I hate it, beyond all else, is this show is only twenty episodes. So we have to tribute twenty years, develop the story and characters of this individual show AND do the legend war. There isn't enough fucking time for all this, as there is, without throwing in random sentai teams for whatever purpose. I'm almost glad they aren't explained because that'd only further waste desperately needed screen time.
|
I want somebody to write a fanfic on Blitz but other then that i don't care.
|
It's a bad thing if only because leaving the footage in stemmed from an act of laziness and not an aware attempt to expand the PR universe/mythos. I honestly wouldn't have minded if they had at least made some effort to explain the footage but instead it was just shoe-horned in for convenience sake.
Also: TONY STARK EDITED THIS FOOTAGE IN A CAVE! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fNlzoL3sToM |
I personally kinda like them being there, but again don't care.
|
I just can't believe how lazy it is. Super Megaforce has SO MUCH FOOTAGE to draw from.
There are 51 Gokaiger episodes and 20 Super Megaforce episodes. Are you seriously telling me they needed to include the non-PR teams? Cause it's certainly not for a lack of available PR-team footage. I think they thought sentai fans would love the cameos. Not realizing that, by and large, Sentai fans don't really like Power Rangers. |

It is a pox.
As much as I like the Flashman and Maskman aesthetics, they have NO place in Power Rangers any more than Kikaider or Tomica Rescue Force do! If I see but one more Sentai-only power, I will mutilate a watermelon with a chainsaw. |
If they would explain them, I'd be fine with them being used. Dairanger are the only ones so far with a type of explanation and that was just that the powers aren't from Earth.
|
Bad. Saban said himself that this season was a tribute to the Rangers, and he or someone from Saban was angry that Dairanger was included in the promo. Now it turns out he was angry because it let a spoiler go. And there's no explination for them. No "They're Alien Rangers" or "Rangers from the around the World" just "Boom" And no explination or context they just show up and are gone. And that sucks. I could forgive it if he'd just give us that.
I could forgive it if we were getting figures of them to. Of Dai, Flash, or Mask. But they aren't and we aren't. So no, this is bad. |
I said it before, I'll say it again: I think it's cool they're showing Sentai-Exclusive Rangers in Super Megaforce. Definitely voting Good.
(Again, anyone who insults me or my liking it will be reported.) |
I think the cameos are pretty cool. Its not like Saban has a track record of splicing footage correctly anyways *SEE MMPR Season 2 w/ wrong Zord splices*
I don't feel as though Saban or Disney or any other groups could do this right as Gokaiger was such an epic season. There will always be something to complain about. I'm just rolling with the punches and not letting it bother me. Another fandom I'm apart of has gone through the mud and back over the last year and eventually you realize that there really are more important things than complaining about your favorite TV show's editing process. |
I still hold firm that with the money and general talent that went into Disney seasons, they'd still make a better season than this cancerous pile of dogshit. And apparently they don't even care about the franchise.
|
I'm fine with it. It's disappointing, no doubt, but pick your poison.
|
It's insulting to the fanbase of Power Rangers. They used footage from 50 episodes of an anniversary show, condensing them down to 20. Then rather than properly tributing the already 20+ years of history for the Power Rangers franchise they instead chose to edit it so poorly that they had to waste time explaining footage of characters that have never existed here before and will never be fleshed out after. Oh and that's right, they aren't really explaining it anyway. "New Powers" is insultingly simplistic. Surprised by how easily a lot of people are accepting that.
So yes, it is bad that they're in here. It shows a gross lack of attention to detail and care for the franchise. |
First of I like to point out a article over at JE fusion that toei also behind this as well and haim saban does not do any thing. It's saban brans Saban name is now a brand name Haim got nothing to do with it so hate saban capital group and not the man. For me I don't care.

If I had a compilation video of tokusatsu heroes shouting "Yurusenai!" I'd be posting it right now. |
I love the use of them but that's just me. I wish they would have webisodes or comics or something explaining the past Sentais.

It's insulting. Especially after all his "it's a tribute" and "For the fans" And "Most Expensive Season Ever" How? When all he's doing is cutting and pasting Gokaiger. |
The way that they've done it so far? Bad... and maybe unintentional? Which makes it even worse.
It COULD be done well, but not in a 20-ish episode anniversary/tribute series. |

From what I've seen of the show, the editing is ridiculously lazy and the New Powersssss are really just time filler. I guess they assumed that most of the people watching this aren't old enough to know better, which is probably true in earnest.
|
Its awful, absolutely awful. If it genuinely was a nod to the fans, more effort would be put into crafting them into the story than "LOL new powers".
Super Megaforce is a joke of an anniversary. |
No, especially not when they are going to halfass it.
Pure and simple, it's lazy. This isn't 1993. The Sentai didn't just end a few months ago with the very little prep time before the production began. Saban had 3 full years to review the footage and address these issues. Furthermore, they have to cut at least half the episodes out anyways, making all the breathing room you could want for editing. There is no reason for this footage to be here other than Saban being astronomically lazy. Now, if there was just no way around these Sentai only teams (which there completely is), Saban needed to address it up front. They needed the rangers to be summoned to the command center and have Gosei introduce the current rangers, and in turn the audience, to these never before seen teams. Use stock footage (including footage from other Gokaiger episodes if need be) to showcase the teams, give each team a name, and tell us about those teams. The worst thing Saban could've done is exactly what they did. I guarantee there's some kid out there trying to find Power Rangers Blitz New Powers (aka Maskman) on Netflix because the kid is unaware it's not a real Power Rangers team. What more can I say? What Saban Brands has done is alienate the old fans (and PR only fans), confuse new fans into wanting to watch shows that don't exist, and above all else put no real effort into their work at all. PS Sorry is a got to rambling in there. |

Honestly, there is absolutely no defense to the use of Flashman and Maskman. It's just ridiculous on so many levels. Why are only some edited out? Thus far, we've had Goranger, JakQ, Dynaman, Turboranger and Jetman edited out, so why are Dairanger and especially Flashman and Maskman OK? They should all not be here. |
If they are going to use some suits, they should use them all. That's my view, they've said they are Rangers from other planets, which is fine, what's not fine is just changing into them without naming them. The Japanese names would be better than nothing at all.
Heck, I think a line saying they are from different dimensions like RPM would work better, but only works if the team names are dropped in roll call. The problem is not that they are using the sentai only team, but that they're not even name dropping them. |
I guess I'm practically the biggest (And possibly ONLY) flag-waver for Super Megaforce and the Sentai-Exclusive Rangers on the show here.
If I'm not, I would love for someone to let me know. |
New Powers: Bad. No Explanation: Worse.
Let's break a little of this down. The use of Dairanger was an afront to PR that Saban's crew will never be able to escape from. Personally, and I know I have said this before, if they wanted to use them, they should have waited and compiled usable and new footage for a movie like "Clash of the Red Rangers". This would provide explanations, a lot of new footage, a new, worthwhile story based on usable Gokaiger footage, and maybe even throw in some digitally-remastered Dairanger footage as well. Do it like this, and Saban can make MORE money with disc and toy sales. Something like that may even incite older fans to give him a little more of a chance. However, Saban jinxed it and we have to live with it. Now, the unfortunate cameo appearances of Yellow Mask and Pink Flash. Okay, one of the biggest questions as been: "Why use them and cut the others like DenziPink, MidoRanger, and Green Sai?" Answer: Yellow Mask has a vague and simplistic similarity to In Space/MegaRanger Yellow and Pink Flash has a vague and simplistic similarity to Time Force/TimeRanger Pink. Either they thought noone would notice or the editors got confused. This is becoming a headache because noone seems to either care or even have a something remotely similar to an imagination. They need to pay attention to people, to fans, to fan support, to fan disgust. If they want to make a product that sells, they need to think who they are selling it to. Kids, yes! Older fans who grew up on the original and still have a place in their hearts for a genre and product they know and love, yes!
P.S. : NO MORE NEW (Old Sentai) POWERS. ESPECIALLY ONES WITHOUT GOOD EXPLANATIONS. |
I don't care about what being used or not. Until eye get better team of writes producers directors and camera men and other means of media will get what will have till that happens. For me it's just that and I'm not hating haim saban he just the chairman of saban capital group not runner. I will hate saban brands and SCG for how lazy this is. Haim last name is Brand title now so I hate the brand not the man that help give me a awesome child hood.

Doesn't matter if it's this writer or that one, or that editor, or this effects guy. Saban THE COMPANY is responsible for allowing such a terrible, unfinished, poorly edited product to make it to air. |
I think if done right it could've been a lot of fun. But its...not even lazy at this point. Its downright nonsensical. Does laziness really explain it anymore?

I don't care about them putting the suits in. I loved Gokaiger and this just doesn't even come close. The issue I have, and I think many other do, is that this should be the season to go all-out for the fans yet they still are keeping it so small. When it's quick changes and part of the fighting I like it but don't insult your audience by blowing these things off. They clearly think kids won't give a crap about a Power Rangers team from 10 years ago so throwing in old Sentai teams isn't going to confuse them any more than those. I just want to see putting in an effort to make it look like they care about all these years of Power Rangers. The writers are adults and they could write like adults if they wanted to. Plenty of kids shows have been smart enough to entertain kids while respecting the adults watching. They must assume that many of us that grew up with PR have kids of our own or might be interested in watching something that pays tribute to the seasons we loved. You would think that their potential English speaking audience would be must larger than the Japanese shows get and thus potentially more profitable. Does it cost them that much to buy Sentai footage? I've always assumed it was cheaper than doing everything themselves. |
