The best Super Sentai anniversary season
Which Super Sentai anniversary show did you like the best? From the ones that I've seen would be Gokaiger. I thought Gaoranger was pretty cool too.
|
Gokai. It is the only one that feels like an anniversary series.
|
I dunno what the question is really asking, if you're asking what is the best show out of those - that I have seen - I'd say Liveman but if you're asking the best anniversary regardless of your opinions of the show I'd say Gokaiger as out of those that I've seen it's the only one that explicitly feels like any shade of a celebration of the franchise.
|
I've only seen 3 of them completely. I loved Liveman, and Boukenger, but, with the nods to the previous series, Gokaiger is #1.
|
the best series is Liveman (as Locke stated) but the best anniversary series (and really the only one that was made as an anniversary series) is Gokaiger. Even had a cool collectibles motif, guest stars in the show and movies, and updated suits (fabric not design) that brought awareness to all the previous teams.

Are agree with Red5 that Gokaiger is a better anniversary series. I have only watched Gaoranger and Boukenger but I can easy tell by looking on some of the episodes of Gokaigers that is kind of anniversary. Gaoranger and Boukenger does not like resemble a anniversary for me at all.
I am really excited about how the 50th anniversary are gonna look like... like seriously 50th anniversary are a big deal for some many people just like golden wedding anniversary. |
Although Boukenger did give us AkaRed, but he was more part of the overall story line of Gokaiger rather than just the VS movie
|
Gokaiger is clearly the one season that actually made light of it being an anniversary. Gaoranger & Boukenger only acknowledged it in their respective movies.
But if we're strictly taking into account the merits of the series and it's quality, then I think Gaoranger wins as the better show. If we're looking at the gimmick of how the show executed an anniversary homage then it's no contest Gokaiger seeing as it's the only show to really do so. |
As an anniversary series, meant to highlight the franchise, Gokaiger wins, there's literally no competition.
As a series in general, I enjoyed Turboranger a ton more than any of the other shows. |
Is Turboranger that good??
What enjoy you about Turbo?? I am just curious mainly because it is not subbed and because it is the first time I have heard that someone enjoyed Turboranger :D |
It's...I dunno. I liked it, but I fully realize that it's not a very well made series. It often lacks internal consistency, so they'll set up rules for any given aspect of the show and break them without addressing them, the characters are pretty damn bland, but I can't help enjoying it. Turboranger is a very "vanilla" series in that it's essentially bad guys vs good guys. There's a bit of a twist around episode 30 or so because this was also a Sentai series that ended up being retooled, but thanks to that you do get some cool arcs of episodes leading up to it.
I guess I mostly enjoy the atmosphere. It's said that after Liveman sorta bombed, Turboranger got the short end of the stick and has probably the smallest budget any Sentai has ever had. Because of those restrictions, the visuals can be pretty creative. It's the first time Sentai did more than just dip its toes into the realm of fantasy instead of super science and you get to see the directors and writers trying to adapt those various aspects to the franchise, so it's cool from a historical point of view. (though Zyuranger is the first full on fantasy Sentai, a lot of Turboranger is still science based) In the end, even though it's not a great series, I always got the impression everyone working on the show cared about it a lot and it spills over to me as a viewer for a surprisingly fun time. It's pretty much the same with Fiveman, these are shows that take place towards the end of the longest production staff run in Sentai, so there's this feeling that people are getting tired but still trying their best. These two shows are often overlooked as some of the most bland series in the entire franchise, but they have their merits. |
Thanks for your good honestly answer and rating on Turboranger it really gives me a clear view on Turboranger. After I read your post, I suddenly wanted to see the show for itselfXD
And even though it is not the best sentai out there and got the lowest budget any sentai ever had its history as you says, and still you like it. I am really hoping someday someone will take this show up and sub it:D |
All of the monsters in Boukenger are actually based on the mecha of all of the previous seasons, and all of the rangers were based on rangers from previous sentai series. Also at the end of the episodes after the ending songs, they do a recap/highlights of previous seasons, so it definitely was intentionally made as an anniversary series.
Ohranger was also originally planned to pay tribute to Super Sentai's roots and actually started off that way by having a serious tone akin to Gorenger. It even had Hiroshi Miyauchi, the original actor who portrayed Aorenger and Big One, as the mentor for the team, but the production staff felt obliged to rewrite the story mid-series to make it lighter and less serious due to a massive earthquake causing serious casualties in Japan. |
Lets go lets gokaiger
|
I have to go with Gokaiger, great Sentai.
|
Gokaiger was great because it was aware of its status and had fun with it. The previous anniversary shows were great in their own way but they have not been as direct about it like Gokaiger.
|
Gokaiger because the other seasons (in my opinion) barely acknowledged that they were anniversary series apart from the logo or a special or two. Gokaiger however, was all about the anniversary. I wonder what they'll do with the 40th. :D
|
gokaiger. so bad ass hehe.. although I'm not sure if they are the first non earthling sentai though
