Your first Videogame Console
After realizing the Xbox 360 will have its 10 year anniversary next year and reminiscing about itthe whole day I had this idea for a thread.
I wanna now what the first ever console was you guys had. I dont mean the first one you played with but the one you clearly remember either getting as a present or buying ourself :D I will never forget the fateful christmas eve of 1997 I got my first console. I had played with my older brothers snes and genesis but never owned a console myself. That night though all changed when I saw this giant box underneath the christmas tree. After ripping away the wrapping paper I saw the gigantic logo proclaiming me the proud owner of a Nintendo 64. The same Christmas I got a second controller, Diddie Kong Racing and the always awesome Super Mario 64. |
Great, an entire thread of dating myself. Onore-Convoy.
The first thing I played games on was a Radioshack bought Tandy computer, the kind you hooked into the television and had to program to run anything. Ah, the times I had to type Goto 10. But my first actual console was when I turned eight, I think, and we got picked up from day care after school. Mom and dad bought me and my brother an NES with Super Mario and Duck Hunt for our birthdays (They're only six days apart). I loved that thing. Batman from the first movie, the first TMNT, Master Blaster. Oh my favorite game by far was Blaster Master. |
|
My first handheld system was the gameboy advanced with a few games. I remember waking up really early that christmas and seeing a big box under the tree. Opening it up i saw a GBA and four games, Pokemon Sapphire, Rugrats go wild, Matchbox search and rescue and Rocket power game. I didn't play those three games and just spent most of my christmas vacation playing Sapphire, those were fun times.
My first actual console was the Gamecube with Smash bros melee and a second controller for my brother. I only got melee because it had Pikachu on the cover. :lol Like Sapphire i ended up spending my vacation playing that with my brother. Unfortunately my parents weren't compitent enough to buy a memory card and i ended up getting one for my memory with me yelling. "Yes! Now i can enjoy playing as Doctor mario and Jigglypuff!" |
Mine was the Nintendo 64. If I remember correctly I got it when I was about four, so 1999. I remember having Mario Kart for it, but I don't remember any other games I got with it when I originally got it.
|
Nintendo Entertainment System.
It technically wasn't "Mine," but living with a brother meant we had to share a lot of things. |
360... I'm young. :lol

I was four so yeah, I didn't know about it until I got it as a present :lol
|
Depends. The first console I ever played was an NES, which I did regularly. However, it wasn't really mine. The first console I owned myself was a Genesis Model 1.
|
The first console I ever played was the N64, but the first one I owned was the Gamecube... that's basically because my parents only got me a Game Boy color and whatever else I wanted I had to buy myself xD (except for my PS2, which was a birthday present from my grandparents)
|
If I want to be technical, the first console I owned was a Gameboy Pocket.
While I had a variety of consoles in my hold, such as a PS1, N64, and so on, some were gifts for my brothers and I to share, while others (Notably the Xbox and GC) we bought by pooling our money together. So the GBPocket was the first console I owned that was indisputably mine. |
If we're talking the first one we bought for ourselves, then it was my GBA. But first console period is as I said the N64.
|
Yeah the first one I bought myself was the Gamecube. It was out for a long time though and I had to wait once the price of it dropped to 99.99 Euros :lol
|
Right first console I played was a mAster system witch was my sister my second was a SNES witch was my brother but It became mine and then we had a play station one each my bro then upgraded to a PSone what also became mine my sister ended up getting the ps2 what became mine cause my late nan got her silver version but my first console I had was a N64 pikachu edtion with a pikachu on it and came with Pokemon snap, followed by a game cube and ps3 fat then slim
|
The first console i bought for myself was my 3DS with Sonic generations, as such i have never let it out of my sight and i always carry it around with me in the two years i've owned it.
|
Started off just playing "edutainment" computer games like Reader Rabbit, and some non-edutainment titles like Lego Island and Hot Wheels Stunt Track Driver. And then in 2004 or so, I got a PS2. A few years ago I got my PS3 bundle and last spring I got a 3DS.
|
My first console was an NES, the first I bought for myself was a Playstation.
|
My first console was the NES, though I didn't technically own it myself, it was just kind of a family system. The SNES was the first one that I personally owned.
|
Mine was some version the Sega Genesis, I remember playing a really weird game and a decent fun X-men game where I played as Night Crawler a lot.

I got a Sega Genesis with a ton games to go with it back in 1997. My second one was the original Playstation back in 1998. I got the original PS as a X-mas gift. I got Bug's Life, Spyro and some Rugrats game back in 1998. I've been gaming since 1995. I used to play games on my friends and family houses.
|
Super Nintendo*shared with brother*
PSone*First one owned exclusively* |
I got a console pretty late because I couldn't afford them. So for a large part of my early life, I was a PC gamer. My first console was a Game Boy Color, and my first home console was a PS2.
|
My family did share a lot in my early years, i played humongous games a lot on the family PC. And the first game i played was mario kart 64 on my brothers system.

My first was a PS1, and it still works pretty well!
But my Memory Card is busted... :P |
I'm one of the people who owned a NES as a first system. Funny thing my mom was against it until my dad told me my school work wouldn't suffer for it.
My first game for it was the Super Mario Bros/ Duck Hunt pack with a grey Zapper. Since then I owned TMNT 2 and 3, Mega Man 4 and 6, NARC and the Batman game based on the movie. I own more NES games but I can't remember them off the top of my head. |
My first ever console, period was the Megadrive. First ever console bought for me, if it counts, was a Gameboy colour and first ever console I bought, I think was a replacement PS2 when it first broke?
Maybe it's not the norm, but the first ever console I properly bought for myself as an adult was probably my PS3 I got when I moved into my new place, consoles are expensive and not things I've ever really been able to afford. Things like my PS2, Xbox and 360 etc were all bought for me and my earlier consoles like the Megadrive, PS1 and Gamecube weren't exclusively mine. |
I'm kinda foggy with my memory to be honest. I have a purple GBC, so I assume that was my first. I do specifically remember getting a GBA in 2001 though.
|
My first console was the ps2, and I was happy when I got it. I spent a lot of hours playing that console and I have still the console laying in my shelf alongside with over 70 games to it. The first game I played on the console was Sly Cooper 2. Later on I got a GBA, PSP, NDS, 3DS, PS3!!
But of all the console I had, the PS2 will always be mine favorite console for life:) |
Nintendo Gamecube, my mom never let me have an N64 :lol
If handhelds count...a Gameboy Color, I got it in I think...2000 |
Nes baby! Nes! While others had their SNES and Genesis I was still the only kid with an NES so whenever the kids in the neighborhood wanted a retro video game sleepover they would bring their old NES games.
Still to this day, Mario 3, Ninja Gaiden 2, Mega Man 3, and Kirby's Dreamland were awesome. And Metal Storm and Excitebike. Coax cables were "FUN" to tweak when the TV was fuzzy. :D |
My console history run down went like this:
Sega Genesis - 1997 - 1998 PS1/PSX - 1998 - 2003 N64 - 1999 - 2002 Gamecube - 2002 - 2007 PS2 - 2003 - 2013 Xbox - 2005 - 2008 Wii - 2006 - 2008 Xbox 360 - 2007 - 2013 PS3 - 2008 - current |
My very first console was my Nintendo 64. It's still stored away somewhere back home, but I think only some WWE(F) game was the only one not sold at some point.
My first handheld was the GameBoy Color in lime green. I took that thing everywhere. |
My first handheld was the original fat Gameboy. I had a Godzilla game, some Final Fantasy game and some Castlevania game before I got Pokemon Blue version.
|
I got a NES with Super Mario Bros. when I was like 5. :P
I go a GBC soon after that and thet basically began my obsession with Video Games. |
Ps2 and my first game was the Power Rangers Dino Thunder game.
|
The first console I ever owned was an SNES. My first game was Super Mario World. :D Great memories.
