Did You Stop Watching Power Rangers?
Was there a time when you, if ever, stopped watching Power Rangers? Did you come back? And what sent you away and, if you did come back, what brought you back?
I stopped watching every episode midway through Alien Rangers. After that I caught episodes here and there. I remember watching the first ten or so of Zeo. Then coming back for Jason. Then leaving again after seeing what a mess the Turbo Movie was. I was hoping for the original movie.. and got that. I didn't come back watching each and every episode again until Lost Galaxy. That season saved my MMPR fanboyism. The only time after that I missed an episode was when it switched from Fox to ABC Family during Wild Force because I didn't have cable at the time. But I had it just before Ninja Storm started and watched them all since. I will say this. Samurai, Megaforce (Some of it), and all of Super Megaforce are making me question my fanboyism again. |
I watched from MMPR all the way up to Samurai.
Honestly, Samurai isn't even that bad. I would've honestly continued since I've endured worse seasons before. What stopped me from watching Nick's eclectic airing schedule. 3 episodes, then 9 month wait? Ridiculous... As a kid I enjoyed Turbo. As an adult I still enjoyed Turbo, so unlike many a fan *Glares at Linkara* I didn't start doomsaying because of Turbo. |
I've fallen in and out of Power Rangers a lot. I watched the original series up through Zeo, but when Turbo started I just couldn't get into it: kid Ranger, stupid car Zords, Bulk and Skull as monkeys... the show lost me pretty fast. I drifted back in during In Space, though, and really enjoyed that. That time I stuck with it through most of Lost Galaxy, but I fell out of that by the end. I didn't come back until years later, when one of my friends started talking about how the show was bringing Tommy back. That's where my current toku kick started, although it wouldn't really become a major fandom for me until I discovered Kamen Rider. Unfortunately, I just can't stand the new Saban PR shows - I dropped out of Samurai, Megaforce, and Super Megaforce after only 2-3 episodes of each.
I didn't watch Turbo as it originally aired and never seen a single ep of Lightspeed Rescue, but this was due to not having the right channel and not due to lack of interest.
I stopped watching seriously after Overdrive, it was aired in a weird schedule, and they always showed the same few eps. |
I stopped after SPD because i thought the series ended there, i didn't know mystic force was a thing until i was flicking through channels one day and i saw once a ranger.
I personally only got into RPM and I only occasionally watch Super Megaforce if there's nothing to watch on TV.
I NEVER stopped watching. I always watch whenever it's on.
Thankfully I quit during Wild Force and returned for SPD. So I saved myself the awfullness of Wild Force, Ninja Storm, and most of Dino Thunder (which did have some good bits). Then Overdrive killed it for me again aside from the awesome and ridiculous "Once A Ranger" crossover. Haven't really liked anything since then though.
I started with Disney and pretty much watched it all as much as I could, I know Ninja Storm through Jungle Fury, but around the time of Jungle Fury, I was in middle school and my parents thought I should grow up and out of the toys and stuff for kids. Even Transformers. So I went about 2 years without a toy much at all. Or watching Power Rangers, though it didnt help RPM kinda went nowhere for me to watch. Then I picked back up about halfway through Super Samurai. Same time I joined up here and I started Megaforce with everyone else. That was a fun time to get back into the fandom... But I am not giving up and hope to continue with Dino Charge
Although I did see most of the previous seasons thanks to Jetix showing the old ones. One of the things I liked better of the Disney era than our current one. |
I stopped after Dino Thunder. The. Sorta came back during Samurai and have occasionally been seeing MF SMF. Just there ain't nothin that interesting.
Kind of been through all of it up until I stopped at RPM. Picked the show back up at samurai. The only reason I stopped at RPM was because I didn't want to wake up early just to watch the show (this is when they moved it away from Toon Disney/Disney XD and brought it back to ABC Kids).
I started at the beginning with MMPR and mostly quit after Time Force, which was the last series I ever watched in full. I started watching Wild Force but lost interest pretty quickly, then gave Ninja Storm a chance when it started but lost interest in that too. I've never watched a single episode of anything past Ninja Storm, with the exception of one episode of Megaforce and one episode of Super Megaforce...both of which reminded me why I don't watch it anymore, unfortunately.
I watched from Lost Galaxy all the way up to Mystic Force. After MF I just stopped watching. I guess it was a case of I got older and simply lost interest in it. I obviously came back to the fandom, but I haven't been able to get into any of the newer seasons. I only saw a few Samurai episodes, and I dropped Megaforce after the first episode due to lack of finding it not to be good. I may give Dino Charge a shot, but I'm not sure yet. I still watch the older seasons though and I'm going to try and watch through Zeo and Turbo at some point since they're the only series I have never seen a single episode from.
i guess i watched from MMPR all the way through to Time force and then was on and off every season after that.
Although I did see the movie in theaters, I stopped watching early season 2 of MMPR, and haven't seen anything since.
It lost me at Lost Galaxy, kinda picked me up again with Dino Thunder and didn't hook me again properly until the tail end of RPM/lead up to Samurai.
I stopped during Turbo. I remember I hated the movie and I try to give the show a chance as a kid. I stop watching Turbo when they got rid of Tommy and the others. I did caught episodes of IS, LG, LSR, TF and WF here and there because I had nothing to watch to keep myself busy for Digimon, Beast Wars or Godzilla: The Series. I did watch a bit of Dino Thunder because the return of Tommy. I did got back into the series when Super Samurai was starting.
I stopped watching after Jungle Fury. Began again with Samurai. Then stopped watching again during the Super Megaforce hiatus (I started watching again recently).
I've been on and off with this show. I rarely ever watched anything from LSR-WF, suffered through NS, enjoyed DT, and I have never seen anything beyond the first two episodes to RPM and JF though. I did finally watch SPD last year (which was actually pretty decent despite Disco Skeletor) but I hated what I saw of OO and Mystic. I hate the MegaForce cast with a passion. Samurai was not terrible, but there are things that never made much sense in it.
i fell out of watching power rangers during Dino Thunder and SPD. i was around the age when it wasn't "cool" to like power rangers anymore. i honestly might have fallen out earlier if it weren't for Tommy's return and the pure bad ass of Cruger. I got back into it because of toy reviewers on youtube, some were doing old ranger things, some figuarts, etc. and it just re-sparked that childhood wonder learning about the history that came with some of them. i didn't jump back into watching until megaforce's finale but had been watching sentai and kamen rider for about a year before hand.
I officially stopped mid-way through Jungel Fury when the Rhino Ranger came in and gained his morpher, 2 years later my brother gave me the whol season of RPM on a USB so I watched that on my road trip to Cali with my dad, and I became a big fan of that show but... Currently... I skipped Samurai and Megaforce, and I'm only watching Super Megaforce.
when I was little I stopped at about Turbo and was in and out for a few years and stopped somewhere around Lost Galaxy/Lightspeed Rescue/Time Force, I watched RPM and loved it but I cannot do it for any other recent seasons
I've stopped more times than I could count just from growing up and stuff, and gave it up for good once Saban got it back.
The only time I stopped watching was Samurai, and even then I didn't really "stop" Just wasn't a big fan of Samurai, didn't click with me.
I stopped at lost Galaxy. Watched Forever Red (If you are a nerd and fan as a kid you had too, lol). I have not returned since. BOA has gotten really bad with the toys, I don't really blame them. I just came back because of some cool MMPR toys, but I can't watch the new shows anymore, even if JDF comes back as a grandpa ranger.
I stopped watching right after Dino Thunder because I had no way to watch SPD at the time. I got back into it with Mystic Force because we finally got cable which allowed me to watch it. And of course once Jungle Fury came I stopped again because our cable provider dropped Toon Disney.
I watched since the beginning when I was a kid, but kind of fell out of it with turbo, caught some of in space and really liked it with all the call backs and cameos. Tried to watch the first episodes of Lost Galaxy, but lost interest, I was away for a few years but heard there was another Dinosaur themed season and watched Dino Thunder which I really enjoyed. When I finished with reruns of that, mystic force was on at the time, so I started watching that and have stuck around ever since (and caught up on most all I missed)

I was a couple of months shy of my second birthday when MMPR first aired. When I saw the first episode I was glued to the tv every time Power Rangers was on. Jason is my favorite ranger, always has been, always will be. I remember watching the original line-up/pre-Tommy episodes like it was yesterday and I was only two years old at the time! Once the second season came around I still enjoyed it but I I wasn't wild about the changes. But I did like it that it seemed to be taking a more mature turn. The movie was very entertaining (I still find it entertaining) even though it's not cannon. The third season was cheesy even for Power Rangers. It was an insult to the series and Ninjor was annoying as hell. Though Kat and Alien Rangers were redeeming qualities, but I pulled through it. I don't have a lot of memories of Zeo, I re-watched it 17 years later on Netflix, I remember watching every episode in the past I just don't have a whole lot of memories of Zeo. I like Zeo so I don't know why that is. I watched Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie and the following series, every episode, and that was torture. I hate turbo, and I did it all again 16 years later, and I'd do it again. I got half way through In Space before my dad told me I was too old for Power Ranger (I was seven). I would get grounded for every episode he caught me watching (and this is the guy who still watched Snoopy, hypocrite). Anyway I caught some episodes of Lost Galaxy but then I stopped watching Power Rangers altogether when my classmates started to make fun of me for watching it. I returned for a couple of episodes of DinoThunder back in 2004 when I was about 12/13 years old (my birthday is in October and I don't remember which month I saw them). After that I never saw I single episode. Even in my teenage years I never knew the footage was mostly from the Japanese Super Sentai franchise. I was aware that it had foreign origins but I never really cared to look into it until I reached my 20s. When my dad left the family back in 2010 I was busy supporting my mom and I as well as going to high school and later college. It wasn't until around 2012/2013 when I started getting back into Power Rangers. I started collecting the toys again and I began doing research on Super Sentai. I have rewatched MMPR-Turbo, got caught up on In Space and Lost Galaxy, and started Lightspeed Rescue. I have been watching ToQger as well. My toy collection as also grew very large. Unfortunately I have none of my old toys to show for but I hope to find some replacements on eBay soon. I took many years off but now I am back to being a loyal fan or Power Rangers and I'm now a new fan of Super Sentai. And I don't think that will change any time soon. No matter how crappy the new Power Rangers series turn out.

I get that Saban doesn't want to lose his baby but with the way he's treating it it could very well go the way of other shows that started out great but fell onto hard times. |

From when I was a kid to around after rpm I've never given up, but after 10ep of samurai and 5ep of megaforce I have officially give up. I will never give nick my time of day again.
I started watching since the reruns of MMPR to Alien, Zeo, Turbo, In Space, Lost Galaxy, Lightspeed Rescue and Time Force. I stopped watching after Time Force back in 2001 even thought I was still in Elemetary School, but Pokemon and Digimon were gaining traction, and later, also Yugioh which I watched the hell outta and Cartoon Network with Dexter's Laboratory, Samurai Jack etc. I came back with Super Megaforce when I read online a few years prior that they were doing a 20th anniversary special show with all the past rangers. I was hyped because I had never seen Samurai or Megaforce before so I never knew how cheap Saban had gotten with the show. I'm still gonna watch Super Megaforce online out of habit though to see all the old suits again. Even if it is stock footage of Gokaiger. After the first half of SM ended with Silver Lining Part 2, I went back and watched RPM because a lot of people said it was really good. It was actually pretty good. Right now I'm watching gokaiger and I've realized that people overhype Super Sentai a lot, but yes it is better than Power Rangers. The jokes are a lot more mature and by mature I mean not childish. There aren't any stupid jokes or puns. Or "UGH THAT'S A SUPER MEGA WIN GUYZ". The themes of each episode are mature and not stupid. People actually get hurt and bleed like normal people. The sentai series has more story, more heart. I'll admit, that I've only so far seen Gokaiger, but from what I remember and from the short amount of other PR shows I've seen, RPM seems to be the only one who got it right.
I know this isn't what the thread is for, but I have to get this off my chest. Here's the MAIN PROBLEM between Super Sentai and Power Rangers: -Super Sentai is aimed at approximately 5-12 year old kids but has more mature content. Power Rangers is aimed at 5-8 year old boys and has wacky hijinks and kid-friendly content. |

My quest begins in the suburbs enjoying MMPR and ends in the land of the rising sun, for I have seen the light. Nyan?
Okqy screw that, so I started with MMPR, thought it was the greatest thing ever. Lil'Scythe was always minutes away from violently soiling himself at this unique show that came about once. Every Saturday morning. It was happy, cheesy and had giant robo battles. I was in heaven. After MMPR my tree hugging hippie cousins introduced me to Zyuranger. That made me take that extra step towards manhood. Also hair started sprouting in places it was never on and I felt like Gorilla bashing my friends. BUT THEN they figured out what Zyuranger was and they got too rough to play with and body slam. So we just made popcorn. I have some very good memories with important people who aren't here with me anymore and these shows, these shows alway make me feel so much closer to those who were taken from me much top early. But it's not all bad. It makes me happy. Sentai showed me different view I had no idea ever existed. Made it all the way up to Turbo's theatrical release and after that tungsten went down hill in life for me. I still peeked here and there, I liked what I saw in jungle Fury and SPD, but my phase had done to a close. Left the Power Ranger scene and never looked back. Except that day I thought someone called me by my name, but it was nothing: just a seagull in the wind. So majestic. It brought me flo circle to the beginning. MMPR. I pride myself on keeping up with both versions and see how they entertain me.Great Gosei smiles upon us, I arrive just in time to seen who shall amaze and wow our children's and their children's children. I have stopped watching but the descendants will never quit. |
