This system would be absolutely perfect for Sentai.

Do they seriously hate Xbox that much? >_> I mean, I get that Sony and Nintendo are Japanese companies and they would be able to have the game but then Xbox users are alienated if that's the only console they own. (Speaking as a Xbox only owner because money reasons.)

Japanese hate american products, the 360 did absolutely terrible there and it's the reason why you don't see many imports on it.

I still kinda want the Kiva figure regardless of whether I'll ever get to play the game.

edit:I wouldn't try to dismiss the issue as simple xenophobia.

I hate Skylanders. I hate the entire premise of it as both a game format and as something connected to the Spyro franchise.


And yet, I want this.

I seriously do want to play this but I don't want to shell out $200-$400 just to get a console for the game. (Which is why I wish they just develop for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and WiiU so that everyone is happy.) :(

I've not read all of it (seriously that's one long article... I'll probably get to it in time), but the gist so far really is "he didn't do it our way [Gates introducing the Xbox to the Japanese] so we hate him." Or "this product isn't like what we produce."

It all sounds very xenophobic to me. :/

Yeah, I understand that knowing and understanding cultural differences is incredibly important (watched my fair share of videos on that in the past weeks during my ongoing orientation period at IBM), but... Well, it's been 13 years. Guess one just hoped that times would have changed.

I never understood the hatred the Skylanders style of games gets. It's fun, kids love collectable gimmicks, and now they're taking popular franchises and mixing it in.

I can kind of understand the frustration some people would have with it though.

You're basically paying cash for content that should've been made avalaible in the game to begin with.

That's akin to saying Kyoryuger's Gabryuchanger should have included every Jyudenchi, though.

Be it in toys or games, designers always withhold content to get the most money (And this isn't a jab at DLC, btw).

Anyway, I'm not gonna play the game, but I'd love to own a Blade, Kabuto, OOO, and maybe a Gaim...

A lot of American publishers and developers didn't want to touch the Xbox either, for what it's worth. That article dresses it up, but people have a lot more in common than you might think.

At any rate, what's the game going to play like? Is it also gonna a direct ripoff of Skylanders, or something else?

Ordinarily I'd be hating on the gimmick because I've always felt the Skylanders model to be a really asinine character select screen that keeps demanding money, but, given that it's Kamen Rider... it somehow seems right.

As long if it's fun then I will pre-order it on Play Asia. Good thing I still have my PS3.

Is this like Skylanders and Disney Infinity then?

Considering Blade's ending and his element is lightning, I can see why they have him as Darkness. And Decade...well, we all know why Narutaki yells "ONORE DIKEIDO!".

I'm not really into the whole Skylanders/Disney Infinity thing, but this looks like it could be pretty cool. I'm definitely interested, but I hope the figures are priced fairly reasonably.

One thing I can think of that Japan has going for it is the random collectible aspect with the toy machines all over. I think I've seen them referred to as Gashapon? As long as they're not too expensive, I could see that being a big hit.

This raises a few questions about form changes...

I guess Skylanders must be a pretty big thing over in Japan too for Bandai to make this happen.

Well, either that or Pokemon Rumble U's figures were a success. Or, hey, maybe it's Disney infinity that's making it so cool in Japan.
And now we have a problem that people had when Disney Infinity came out; it's ripping off Skylanders. Let's look at each game's unique aspects;
Skylanders; Swappable characters, being able to trap characters in toys (Trap Team), and cool cut scenes.
Infinity; Fun worlds, Disney characters, sand box (I guess), and Toy Box.
Rumble U; cheap figures, okay cut scenes, and Pokemon (but only a few).
So in each game this kind of thing is done in, they each, at least, include some different aspects. Now let's look at;
SummonRide; Elemental Groups (Skylanders), Characters people are mostly familiar with, disks (Infinity)...that's it. There are no more things that are unique about it so far!
If you want people to buy your game , you show them what makes this game different from other games. Who would by Pokemon X or Y if Nintendo just said "It's basically the exact same f**king game as the past 20 in the series! But with better graphics. No new gameplay, no interesting story to make it different from others, but better graphics!" Yeah, in this case, the Kamen Riders are the better graphics.
Maybe if the game included some bike figures you could use in-game. That hasn't been done with this category of games before! That would be cool! If you add Showa Riders, it won't make a difference, there'll be no new gameplay.
Every video game does something different. And I like that. Look for what's new and not what's been done before. But all there is for this is Kamen Riders. And that's enough to get people hyped to buy a game that unlocks heroes & levels with real-world currency.
