Best movies of Millennium series?
How would you rank the movies of this era from best to worst?
I like 2000, but couldn't seem to get into Giant Monsters All Out Attack, Final Wars was okay, not great... I haven't seen the rest Am I missing any gems here? |
1. GMK
2. G2000 3. Tokyo SOS 4. GxMG 5. Final Wars 6. Megaguirus |
1) GMK
2) Tokyo SOS 3) Godzilla 2000 4) Final Wars 5) X Mechagodzilla 6) Megaguirus |
I wanna rewatch GMK, but I do recall it being pretty good.
However, my stupid ass can't remember it very well, so until then, I'll put X Mechagodzilla as my favorite until I find the time to give it a second viewing. So, 1. X Mechagodzilla 2. GMK 3. 2000 4. Tokyo SOS 5. Final Wars 6th will have to go to Megaguirus, but I legitimately can't remember a sole thing about it, literally... |
For me it would be:
GMK GXMG Tokyo SOS G2k GXM FW |
1. Godzilla 2000
2. Godzilla X Mechagodzilla 3. GFW 4. Godzilla: Tokyo SOS 5. Godzilla vs Megaguirus 6. GMK (really don't like zombies, so Zombiezilla didn't help; still decent story) |
My ranking, based upon how much I enjoyed them
1. 2000 - well-paced, with an interesting human story that doesn't feel like filler until Godzilla shows up/setup for a monster brawl. In fact, I enjoyed everything up til the final fight more than the fight. I do wish we saw a bit more of Orga though. 2. Final Wars - I actually loved the x men/matrix-esque sections, Godzilla was awesome, the action was fun, and the appearances from a bunch of Showa monsters was cool, even if some where woefully short *coughhedorahcough* 3. X Mechagodzilla - I really liked the lead girl and the plot of the movie, but some of the effects in the battles were really bad, and seeing Godzilla outclassed by a man-made war machine always felt a bit weird 3. Tokyo SOS - The relatively simple plot was enough to propel you through the movie and into the action. After that, you have a well done monster fight, which is what these movies are all about, right? 5. GMK - The only thing I liked was Baragon - the suit looked awesome, and his fight with Godzilla was great. The rest of the suits, however, I thought looked bad, and I didn't enjoy any of the other fights. The plot wasn't even that interesting Haven't seen vs Megaguirus |
Wasn't Kiryu getting it's ass whipped until Godzilla '54's spirit or whatever took it over?

1. GMK: Well written and an absolute blast to watch. Even the Human parts seemed less like filler than usual.
2. 2000: same reasoning although there was a lot more human elements in this one and it didn't sit too well with me. 3. X MechaGodzilla/Tokyo SOS: These two are tied mostly because to me they dont feel like two separate movies that are intended to be sequels they honestly feel like one long movie broken up into two parts and while good they really aren't the best that this franchise can do. 4. Final Wars: The action sequences while weird were amazing and at one point I thought I was watching Kamen Rider (You all know which part I'm talking about) The Showa monsters got some much needed love and Zilla (The 1998 piece of bull honkey) got what he/she had coming. 5. Megaguirus: I probably butchered the spelling but I dont care. Out of the convoluted plots this franchise has seen this one has to be up there on the list. The idea of a swam of bugs hurting Godzilla that much just throws me for a loop so I'll stick with the old favorites and If I wanna see Godzilla take on a couple bugs I'll watch Battle For Earth. |
Disagree there Kn1ght. I've recently changed my list as the first Kiryu movie is hands down the best of the Millennium series and one of the best movies in the entire franchise. Not to mention the attention to detail in those miniatures is utterly phenomenal and it features some of the best melee battles from the series ever.
|
Totally understandable and while yes the mele battles and miniatures were beyond excelent I till think that story wise they seem to fall short. But alas its is just my opinion. Besides I'm a VS series guy anyway XD

I also feel like it had the strongest characters we have had a in while. The only characters from the Millennium series that came out as strong as the ones from 2000. No matter what though, the Millennium series is far superior to nearly everything from the Heisei period. |

To that statement I counter I stated early Heisei.

That is true my appologies

Too be fair '84 isn't bad, and Biollante actually is a good movie, best of the 80s/90s without a doubt. Everything else besides VS Desotoroyah however is utterly bad. VS Ghidorah is just terrible, VS Mothra is simply meh, Mecha Godzilla II is pretty meh from what I remember (been a while for that one), and VS Space Godzilla is so boring. The millennium series is definitely when Toho got their shit together and made good and some great kaiju films for modern times.

The only reason Destoroyah is at all praised is because of its last 4 minutes. Nevertheless, Kawakita and Okawara were one of the worst things to happen to the franchise because the man clearly didn't give a **** about the effects or story telling. Oh, and Miki is a terrible character who didn't even need to be there. The best movie in the Heisei series is Biollante, but even that suffers from an overload of too many characters. |
Maybe its just nostalgia goggles but I remember nothing but great things from all of the Heisei films the only one I was meh on was Ghidorah the others were all excellent...Though I will admit that Miki wasn't needed in the slightest but I loved that she was a constant in most of the series.
|
It's nostalgia goggles for sure. I felt the same way about the Heisei series, but when I did my reviews of them last month, I threw off the goggles and looked at them critically from every point of view and they were just awful movies. They shove their environmental messages down our throats relentlessly.
Almost all of the series was in my top 10 Godzilla movies list, and now, Biollante is the only one that remains there. |
Maybe dong a review on them or at least a mock one will be the way for me to go about this I own a two pack of SpaceGodzilla and Destroyah so maybe watching those critically will help. Or maybe I should jump ship on Godzilla reviews and head straight into Gamera XD
