The Tokunation Bookclub
Greetings tokunites! What started off as a joke has turned into a real thing. That thing being a bookclub for the site. What's a bookclub you ask? Well it's where old women get drunk off their asses and...okay, I lied, that's not fully what a bookclub is (it's only like 75%). No, a bookclub is where a group of people pick a book that they then all read for a month and after that month gather to discuss the book they just read and pick out a new one. So that's what we're bringing to this shingdig of a site!
So how will this all work? Well pretty much as I described. Each month a member of the club will suggest a book and whatever one gets the most votes is what we'll read. We'll then read it for a month and at the end of that, discuss it. Rinse and repeat. Now as per slightly usually we should have some rules. I ask that we all do not suggest any book that is pornographic. Also only fiction books are legible to be nominated and voted for. Much like how the the Sceret Santa works you can nominate books that may have violence and even some sexuality to them, just don't pick books that overdo it (i.e. books such as Fifty Shades of Grey or feature nonstop graphic violence). As for the discussion just be respectful of other people's opinions and follow the site's regular rules. With all of that said I hope you all will sign up for this and help get people to read something they might not have read unless you suggested it. So sign up below! Bookworms unite! I'm definitely in. The first book I suggest... would have to be the Hunger Games? Yep. The first one.
Then we can advance to finishing Catching Fire and... dare I say it... Mockingjay. |
I'm iffy on that but I do here its a decent series. I just can't see the word they live as being socially acceptable but this is from a perspective that hasn't read the books so you know
|
I suppose I need to go ahead and nominate something.
I hereby nominate Animal Farm. |
I might partake in this. I just got to find out if I can still use my library card. (Had an old late fee on it and what not)

You want a good series? The Shadow Children, AKA the "Among the X" books. That does the dystopia thing great by setting up the dystopia to be realistic and small. Its not some grandiose regime where the bloated pigs in power control the tortured masses because EVIL!!!!! and have filled the world with robots, chrome, genetically altered spy birds or semi-virtual death arenas where dirty depressed people get their shit ruined for some stupid goal by the people in charge. It's simple. |
Looks like I'll be joining! :D
I recommend A Day in the Life of Alexander Denisovich. (Since I have the book already. :lol) |

I like to read fantasy, comedy, action, drama, romance stories... so... um... yeah. :) |
How are we going to decide on the books to read anyways? Random Number generator?

Man, I'd love to do this except I'm such a slow reader I'd still be on the first book by the time everyone else is five in.
That said, if any of you guys liked Kamen Rider W then you should really read one of Raymond Chandler's Philip Marlowe novels. I recommend Farewell, My Lovely or The Long Goodbye. |

I nominate The Hunchback of Norte Dame.
Because that is the first thing that came to mind.... |

... ... Uh... I didn't think about that... :o But I'd still rather go to Barnes and Nobles... my library is rambunctious and annoying... mostly because of dumbass teenagers. |
I'll find a way to get the book for sure.
|
The Hunchback of Norte Dame is in public domain since the book is a century and half years old. You could just download it for free.
|
Isn't it a rather large book though?

I'd be up for this. I'm going to suggest... 1984.
|
I nominate Fahrenheit 451
|
This is a really interesting idea. :) I don't really want to nominate anything since most of what I have on hand is Star Wars haha, but some of my favorites outside of that have already been nominated anyways. If this keeps up, I'll definitely be keeping an eye on it for anything interesting (or comment on what I have read).
But right now I'm trudging through A Song of Ice and Fire and any of those books would be horrible recommendations heh. |
I nominate The Great Gatsby.
|
Well it's the start of the month and we have our minimum amount of people! So it's time to begin! What book though? Well I gave the old random number generator a try (each book was numbered in the order they were nominated) and the result is...
Animal Farm by George Orwell So get to the library or bookstore and get a copy of the book. The time to read starts now! When we're all finished we'll converge into here, discuss the book and pick out the next one! |
Just finished Animal Farm. Pretty good and also short. Got it done i a couple of hours
|
Sign me up. I don't know how I missed this thread. I am amused that such a significant number of books suggested are books assigned as reading during my old school days. :lol
|
The curious incident of the dog in the night-time
|
Alight it's January, so when do we want discuas Animal Farm?
|
Well as suggested, we could always make a group on Skype on discuss it there in a call. But if not everybody in the club has Skype we can just do so here.
|
May I join, please?
