Leonard Nimoy Passes at 83
This morning we learned that we lost one of the true icons of Science Fiction. Leonard Nimoy, after being hospitalized for COPD, has passed away. Some of you are far to young to remember his work on Star Trek The Original Series. But he was in much more than that. From Dragnet in the fifties to the Twilight Zone. So his show In Search Of.., where he brought us different mysteries each week. You may know him instead from his episode of The Simpsons, Futurama, and his role in the Fox series Fringe.
Leonard is survived by his wife, Susan Bay, and the millions upon millions of fan who have loved him on stage and off. The word is given. The ship is safe. And never have any of us come across anyone more human. |
Well...shit.
|
R.I.P Mr Spock.
I believe he was only 83. |
*takes off hat in respect*
I feel this is appropriate considering his most famous work: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=euWfTiYwRB0 The Sci-Fi community will forever miss him. And at 89 with the repertoire he has, I'd say he truly lived long and prospered. |
What a shame. He was a fairly constant thread in my childhood, from TOS to In Search Of... I knew it had to happen eventually, but damn. The world is a sadder place for his passing.
|
My initial reaction to this is simply. "This is most illogical."
Man, one of my dad's favorite actors died right after he did, that's pretty depressing. Looks like Master Xehanort's gonna get a new voice actor huh? |

Whoops. I just posted something about this in the News and Rumors section... I'll go and try to delete it.
May Mr. Nimoy rest in peace. There will never be another man like him. |
Rest in peace, Leonard Nimoy. One of the greatest people to have ever been in sci-fi, and one of the greatest actors ever seen
|
It's unfortunate. He was great.
|
He was a great man. R.I.P Nimoy.
|
I was a huge Star Trek fan as a kid. This really has me properly bummed out. :(
|
Thank you very much for being a legend that will live forever in my memory in the sector of happiness.
|
Damn. They don't make icons quite like him anymore :(
|
He lived long, and it was prosperous.
RIP. |
He was beamed to a better world.
RIP |
He was a talented actor, and one I looked up to.
Rest in peace Mr. Nimoy |

Has there ever been a truer statement? Acting and Icons like him only come from their generation. With his passing is the end of a generation of acting and Iconism. (Yeah I made that word up so sue me. You won't get anything if you do.) Quote:

Oh wow, I still can't believe he's gone, it's like my mind refuses to digest this news. For some reason, a world without Leonard Nimoy just feels so strange.
May he rest in peace. |
When I was growing up my family was really into Star Trek. Part of that was because of Lenard's talent and losing him is a real blow to the sci fi community.
Rest in peace Mr. Nimoy. You've earned it. |
This is such sad news to hear.
Live Long and Prosper. |
This is very tragic and sad. We lost a legend today. Maybe he didn't refine television, maybe he wasn't making people laugh away their problems - but for those who love Science Fiction, he was a hero, an icon, and someone who helped give those of us who are nerds/geeks someone to connect to who was incredibly important for his friends - something I know a lot of us struggled with growing up.
RIP Leonard Nimoy. It's not that we mourn your loss as you wouldn't want that - but we cannot help but be overcome with sadness for the giant void in our hearts. Enjoy exploring the new frontier you've gone to. |
I recall watching the original Star Trek at 10 pm every night on TV for a few years before I went to bed for school in the morning. It was such a great show, and I loved the movies. To know of Leonard Nimoy's passing...
It's truly saddening, bit I like to think he's up there in the heavens now trading stories again with DeForest Kelly (Dr. McCoy) and James Doohan (Scotty). LLAP |
there's 2 things Leonard Nimoy did:
Lived long, and prospered. RIP Leonard Nimoy. you are an icon whose legacy will last ages. you will be missed greatly by many. I feel it's only fitting we at least show this scene once in this thread. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_8nY_LQL3w |
That scene is pretty much what I thought of. Mr Nimoy's Spock defined a whole generation of sci-fi, showing us aliens could be strange, yet utterly human and relatable.

As a scientist myself I can not help feeling sorry for this. Im old enough to remember mr. Nimoy's role as host for the mystery series of the late 70s and early 80s In search of... and as well his role of mr. Spock and his voice work for my favorite strategy game Sid Meier's Civilization IV.
As many had already quoted his eponymous phrase from Star Trek universe, live long and prosper. i would like to add... Although you were not an official scientist or researcher, im sure that all of us see you as an honorary one due your work not only on tv but offscreen as well. It was because of the work of people's like you that many children around the world also became fascinated with science and knowledge that made them to follow that road in their lives. Farewell friend. |
