Best/Worst Sentai?
 

I'm curious to know...what do you guys consider to be the best or worst Super Sentai series?

The best sentai to me is Kaizoku sentai gokaiger as for worst one I haven't watched any I didn't find horrible.

For best I'm going with Gokaiger for now. (Though I feel like Kakuranger might over take it as my favorite.)

As for least favorite I don't really have one.....yet. There's definitely some (like Goseiger) that I don't like as much, but I wouldn't go as far as to say I hate it. (Personally I found it kinda boring). The only series that I think might be my least favorite is Ninninger, though that show hasn't finished yet so I'll give a bit more time.

Best: Dekaranger.

Worst: Goseiger.

From the ones I've watched so far:

Best: Tie (Dekaranger and Shinkenger)
Worst: ToQger

Best: Dairanger
Worst: Go-Buster (it is the only one I found absolutely horrifying that I still completed otherwise it would be ToQ)

Best: Gekiranger
Worst: Sun Vulcan

Best: Liveman or Shinkenger
Worst: Sun Vulcan, easily

Best: Gekiranger
Worst: ...Haven't seen enough to say the worse...

Best: Goseiger - It has the most under-appreciated Sentai team I can remember. Especially Alata. And it has the single greatest Villain in Sentai this side of Basco. Bureduran No Comet. Don't believe me? Watch Shinkenger v Goseiger, best team-up movie. Period.

Worst: ToQger - I just couldn't get into it after a while (I made it to like ep 15 or so, it was a few after Akira was introduced).

Trying to be objective, I'd say:

Best: Toqger or Shinkenger. Liveman was also really well-written.
Worst: Sun Vulcan, at least the first bit. Though even the second half wasn't that good. Dairanger was also quite a mess.

As for my subjective opinion:

Best: Goseiger, Kyoryuger, Toqger
Worst: Dairanger, Boukenger, Sun Vulcan

Because, after three years on this site, it's still a surprise when I say I dislike Goseiger?

Truth.

Best: Timeranger or Shinkenger (Honestly can't decide between the two.)

Worst?: Probably Kyoryuger from what I've seen... but that was mainly because I couldn't quite get into it... the fart joke, lack of focus on anyone except Daigo as well as the extreme amount of sexism also didn't help.

What is this objective you speak of?

Et tu Guncannon... (Though I agree with the last part. Could've done with less of the gratuitous shots of Ami and Yayoi spinning while harps played in the background)

I will say that I do like the cast and designs of Kyoryuger, and Dino Charge is pretty damn good... Also, in terms of best I can solidly say that Goseiger is a close third for me.

Shouldn't this kind of thread prohibited since it is purely based on each person's opinion? Also, we have a general question thread already.

Almost the entirety of this forum is based solely on someone's opinion, so I'm not understanding why it should be prohibited. If we did that we wouldn't have a website. And we do, you're right. But this isn't a general question, it's a very specific one. The General Questions Sentai Thread I made was so people didn't have to make a new thread whenever they couldn't remember an actor's name, or when they wanted to know a little piece of trivia about something they've seen.

Asking someone what they think they're best and worse Sentai is, is a good example of a thread. It generates conversation over more than a single post or two.

Maybe I went overthought, afraid that people will argue about why a specific sentai is good/bad, which is heavily based on personal opinion and never comes to a conclusion. So just enjoy it.

I will say that there is no argument how terrible Sun Vulcan is. The only redeeming (and most ridiculous) factor was the Vulcan Stick. It could handle a grunt, destroy a 1970's computer, or take out a helicopter in mid-flight. The rest of the show was quite terrible though.

You're not understanding, I think. Debate is good. People defending their choices adds conversation, which is good. Personal opinion, on the forum and especially in a topic such as this, is good. It's exactly what we want as a forum.

Now let's try and get this topic back on track here.

I can understand why some would say that Goseiger is the best; it had a pretty good cast and the stakes were high during the final arc, but I am not partial to shows that jump from evil faction to evil faction (also my beef with Boukenger). I can also understand why people like Gekiranger; the final arc made me cry. I cried with Jan when he found out about his family. How could some little kid handle that and I couldn't as an adult? Lol. I think most of Gokaiger relies on the cast (which was amazing) and nostalgia feels. I thought the story was okay, but also there wasn't a real conclusion for the Gokaigers, but that is just my opinion.

Is there another choice for best sentai that you can understand, but did not pick yourself?

Kyoryuger. I can see why people like it as it is indeed an over all fun and light heart series with a damn good cast and toyline, but for reasons I've stated before I don't have that strong an attachment to it.

That's where everyone gets Goseiger wrong. There weren't multiple Evil Factions. The villain, throughout the whole series, was Brajira. Yes, he used War Star, The Mutants, and Metal Alice. But he was the sole and only true villain through the whole season.

Not to mention that, no matter which form he takes... he is just so beautiful! T_T

No. Don't even try. His constant presence was felt throughout the series to something bigger, but he was a merely an enforcer/second in command (After what's his face died) during the Warstar, a bit player during the mutants, and he was borderline mindless during the machine portion.
He was not the primary antagonist through the series.

His endgame was nice, but getting to it he fell in and out of the "main big bad" role all the time.

I still like Goseiger; gorgeous suits, a rocking theme song, and the cast was neat, but I feel like the bad guys were sort of phoned in and Brajira was the constant, but not revealed until the end (which I know a lot of people that gave up before the big reveal)

No, he was the big bad through the whole series. He was manipulating everyone that came along so he could achieve his end game.

Watching Goseiger for a third time atm and I would agree on this one. While he was not directly in a leader position, he did manipulate the others to do what he wanted. If it had worked, yay! But I think he ultimately knew it would fail, so he just kept scheming. Admitted, he didn't expect being betrayed by the Yuumajuu, but once he came back, he continued his plan.

To be the main villain, he doesn't have to be in command for the whole thing... Enter also became the big baddie last minute. Long didn't appear until about half of the series and made his move even later. Zet came in somewhat later too. Deboss wasn't even present until shortly before the finale. The list goes on.

Also, it's much easier to infiltrate and manipulate an existing group than to just go and say: Eeeyup, I'm your new leader now! Especially because Buredoran was weakened and had to gain enough strength first.

You kow I lost a little respect for you, Sentai saying ToQger is the worst. Lol, also why do people seem to hate Goseiger so much? I have only seen episode one an vs Shinkenger but it seems great. Oh and 199 heroes. Anyway,
Best:ToQger, I just love it so much.
Worst: haven't watched one I disliked so...

1: "Buredoran/Brajira jumps factions, does nothing, One Wing Angels in the finale and dies."
2: "Too many factions. It's just super distracting, man."
3: "The Mecha designs are so uninspired. Where's the angel motif? Swapping animal heads, an ostrich? How about a card machine and a big bland gray robot with a face for a chest? Stupidz!"
4: "It's too boring! It's not like Shinkenger's heavy drama or Gokaiger's Grand love letter to the franchise! Ergo it sucks eggs."

Sentai thoroughly you disapproved Number one (though I will add this: Brajira's cyborg form rendered him "I have no mouth and I must scream" where while he was unable to do much or speak his mind, he was still scheming away and breaking through every so often), and number two is very easy to disprove on the simple matter that people often want to see another season to their favorite Sentai to which I say:
"If you don't like the structure of Goseiger, then you won't like seeing sequel seasons to your fav Sentai because Goseiger is it just like how that would be. The Warstar? That's one season. The Yuumajuu and Metorantis are two more seasons. Goseiger keeps a good pace which I find spares it of any problem that the villain swaps cause."
3 is personal preference, but I still disagree since I like the giant robots. All of them. And 4 is just unfortunate timing where a very good show is placed between a samurai drama and a clip show.

One thing that I do love about Goseiger is how they explain why each ranger has their personality quirk. Most seasons of any series won't do that, even with established characters. Like Bart Simpson is the stereotypical hell-raising kid just because that is how Matt Groening wanted him to be. Each of the Gossipers have a focus episode to explain why they are how they are.

I'd say what is "Best" or "Worst" is subjective and more a matter of opinion. Like, for me, I enjoy all Sentai. Some more than others, but I'm not sure what to put as "Best" or "Worst".

Though, take out personal opinion and more facts, looking at ratings and toy sales gives one a pretty clear idea of what would be "Best" or "Worst" in Japan.

I'm mostly going off what I assume is the norm in Japan, when talking about the best and the worst. Again, it's all subjective and opinion based, so many people will have many different answers.

People generally dislike the Goseigers for no good reason. Their usual reason is: The Goseiger's suck because they're not like [insert other team here]. For example, Alata is often criticized for not being the stoic red, like Takeru/ShinkenRed. But that is imho what makes him unique and likeable.
And, while I do not like stoic Reds as much as the happy type (like Alata or Right), I could still accept Takeru because I took him for what he is and not for what I want him to be like. I don't know why so many people judge the characters for what they aren't instead of for what they are.

"I have dedicated my time and money to this series, so I want everything to be catered to my exact specifications!" <--that mentality is why.

Each season is supposed to offer something unique and different. How would the Goseiger/Shinkenger versus movie have been if Takeru and Alata were exactly the same? Or if Alata was exactly like Marvelous? Or if Jan and Akashi were the same? There has to be variation between the style of the show and the characters or they might as well just sign folks on for a three or four year run. But that would create a whole new list of problems.

I will admit that the entire time watching Goseiger, I was waiting for Alata's badass moment. Every red has one. He showed flashes throughout the season, but nothing that stood out until he blocked Brajira's attack with his bare hand leading up to the final fight. That was badass and got me really hype. Lol

Alata is amazing in the final episodes. I just watched them again today. I also love his untransformed fight against GoseiKnight.
