Kamen Rider Drive FINAL/SPECIAL EPISODE Discussion- "The Ghost Case!"
A new power appears! Friend, foe or phantasm???
As always you can view this episode via live stream on Saturday by heading over to Taima TV. They play other miscellaneous programs up until the live broadcast starts. Live Streams are at 6:30 PM Eastern Standard Time on Saturdays. |
I thought Kamen Rider Drive came on first, not Sentai.
|
Nope. Sentai always airs first :)
|
Damn. Guess I'll have to wait. So 7 is the time I want to go back to that page?
|
Farewell, my beloved crazy vehicle friends. God, I'll miss that show so much (´;ω;`)ノ
Glad we got at least one V-Cinema and a Movie Taisen ahead of us. |
Nice episode. Flashback was sort of unnecessary but then I guess the entire episode sort of was.
Ghost stuff was nice, though. Yurusen is actually pretty fun, if floppy (the blush is a bit odd, hadn't noticed it before). Looking forward to next week. |
Subs are up. I like the use of an epilogue episode to wrap up loose ends, close the book, tell us the fates of our heroes. The villain was kinda lame, he had so much time to cap Kiriko, but I get it. It was also amusing to see Shinnosuki straight up shoot all those criminals. Kamen Rider's guns are always lame revolvers.
I also liked the introduction of Ghost. His hand-to hand fighting style seems to be kung fu, lots of flowing movements. This has always been an iffy question in KR, but this indicates they're in the same universe, right? Thats two times we've seen Ghost just waltz up to Shinnosuke. That little ghost buddy is gonna be fun in the Ghost series. Drive started pretty slow, and I'm not a fan of all the suits that came later on, but it was very entertaining as it progressed. I can say it was a worthy follow-up to Gaim, and Ghost has some shoes to fill. Bring it on |
So much more respect for drive after this episode, its not about kamen rider, its now about a cop moving on from his past and being just as heroic even without the belt...love it. Henshin-free story that ties up the series in a respectable and appropriate manner :)
|
Controversial opinion: I really really liked Drive waaay more than Gaim.
Even the start of the show was fine because it focused on the cop drama and investigation rather than everything else. Later on we saw excellent characters rise to their own:Gen, Kyu, Rinna, Heart, Brain, Medic, all were fun full characters. And 5he best amongst those is got to be Gen, his character arch was way more interesting to me than any other supporting character in Gaim (Mitchy is a main and thus doesn't count). The show was sort of episodic but it didn't feel like it. Everything flowed from one episode to the next without the harsh stop-start that were the Gaim arcs. This episode shows how good was this show really. It was a reasonable epilogue after last weeks episode and didn't just retconed what was akready established. Ya, the villain was week but he wasn't supposed to be strong, he needed to be human to bring us down to earth. The only thing I despise with a passion about this show is how Kiriko was treated. She started out so well. I remember one forum user thinking she was an android because her amasing acrobatics. She wore the belt even, and got her own fighting gear. But by the end she was just another damsel in distress, a thing to be won over by Chaise or Shinoske. That's really bad. I do wonder: now that it has been solidly established that there is no more belt, how would they involve Drive in the movie wars or will they not address it at all? |
Meh... as expected, a completely pointless waste of an episode. The real ending in the last episode was good enough; if anything they should've used the extra episode for a real epilogue or a longer fight against Sigma instead of this.
Ghost isn’t even a factor in this episode besides just being there and fighting for 10 seconds... what's the point? I hope this will be the last time they sacrifice a whole episode for this stupid last episode crossover stuff. |
Looking for Ghost series.
|
It was a decent episode. It wasnt really needed for the story and the Ghost cameo was kinda pointless. But I enjoyed it. And those last words from Mr. Belt made me cry again :lol
I will miss those characters a lot. |
This is was one of the best endings since W. Very character driven, token Henshin with the boys as a flash back... OK Neo Shade, no build up and flat ending... But tying it to before the global freeze gives us a full circle for the story. Having Tomari win by being himself, best message for kids. This is still a kids' show after all.
Ghost was there for the series transition. I like this device a ton better than just being a random guy in a movie (on with W that was OK, just because that movie was so $#&@ing random), like OOO and Fourze. As for what i saw, i am really liking. Hmmm...Ghost having 99 days to live, that reminds me of Spawn with a power of 9999 and having it count down. Drive in the end, well worth the time. |
This was a fantastic ending. It was great to see Shinnosuke be a Kamen Rider even without his powers and stop this guy. Also great to see one last scene with Drive, Mach, and Chaser together. I love Ghost in this, I honestly thought he was fantastic with his ghost buddy and that it got me totally hyped for the next series. This has been one of my all time favorite Kamen Rider series so I am definitely going to miss it because all 3 Riders and the Supporting cast was just top notch. Ghost you have big shoes to fill but I believe in you. Eye can't wait for Ghost!

During the episode, Eye couldn't help but think about this:

I think it's cool for someone to appreciate this series over Gaim. There was a lot of detraction with the whole cop serial meets wacky Scooby gang hijinks that was the first 25 episodes of Drive. At least Kiriko didn't turn into the Koyomi of the series. Seriously, Wizard really ruined the whole female counterpart thing going forward. Then again, Gaim's Mai wasn't exactly a sparkling example either. Kiriko had a few parts where she actually was a perfect counterpart in the series. And unlike Gaim, the series wasn't mired in the villain take up the whole series aspect. Quote:

Man, that was a great epilogue. I'm actually kinda down with this being a thing Rider does now; it's definitely better than trying to cram the goodbyes and the last fight all into one episode. It was cool seeing Shinnosuke solve a crime and arrest a criminal as himself and the ghost Krim was a pretty neat touch. I'm a little disappointed that Kiriko got damsel-ed so bad, but I did like seeing her and Shinnosuke's future summaries at the end.
It's funny; for a show that I hated so much for so long, I'm really going to miss these characters when they're gone. When I got to the end of Gaim I felt like I had seen all I really wanted to, but with Drive I definitely am looking forward to the Movie War and any spin-off films they want to do (I still need my team-up with W, after all). I am looking forward to Ghost, though. |
Man, that was a great epilogue, IMO surpassing Gaim's. It was a great message to show that even though Shinnosuke doesn't have his superpowers, he is still a fantastic cop all on his own. And even though it was plainly obvious that Kiriko would be Eiji's mother, it was nice to have that confirmation in there.
I'm gonna miss Drive, but at the same time, I'm excited for Ghost and of the 10 seconds we saw from him, I already like him a lot. |
Has Over-Time said if they're subbing Ghost too?

Wow, there goes of a year of my life that was very well spent. That was a great epilogue episode and a nice preview for Ghost. I can't believe this year went by so quickly and that it's all over now. Thanks for giving me something to look forward to every week, Drive. Let's all hope for an amazing year with Ghost. Gho-Gho-Gho-Ghost!!!
|
Wow. Yurusen is about a million and a half times less annoying than I thought they would be. I actually really like them a lot. I'm loving their relationship with Takeru already. (Do we know whether it's a him, her, or neither yet?) I kind of wonder how they're going to handle gaining the Newton Eyecon within the show after this. I can imagine this takes place after it's found by Takeru first.

The final episode was much better than I anticipated, it did not feel rushed or just slapped on unlike the Gaim one and Tomari's character development from the start completes quite well, and it seems like Ghost starts before Drive ends so while unlikely it would be quite interesting if Ghost goes of fighting inside that dimension/forest Tomari met him and we see it from his side instead in the actual series, same in regards to the last episode of Drive, while unlikely it would be interesting if we here also got to see Ghosts side.
So in regards to the Ghost trailer at the end, did anyone else catch what was said at the end ? Now from Overtimes sub on it it said : "I need to thrive to survive " That feels a bit familiar to me, Ryuki anyone ? |

We never did get any sort of explanation for the dream encounter so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Thanks for the heads up NavyMesoRanger, I guess we have to wait and see ? I cannot hear it that well myself either though my Japanese skills are 0 currently, I can manage some words here and there and that is it.

TV-Nihon would've probably just left it untranslated witha blink-and-you'll-miss-it note at the top of the screen. |

Good episode, felt much more natural and well done than Gaim's, which just felt forced. I'm really liking Ghost's character and mannerisms; I hope he's like that in the show. |

A lot of people do like their subs though and their subs are not as bad as people tend to say, it kinda just feels like a " gotta be in a group hate " type thing to me, not liking it is fine naturally but some seem to get really angry about it.
I got to watch several shows I had wanted to watch for years thanks to them, so while there are a few weird translations here and there, it really does not bother me that much overall. At least we got to see the shows. I have personally been following Over-Time for drive, but I watched Æsir subs for Gaim but the rest was for the most part stuff put on Nihon. If OT subs Ghost I will likely follow them another year. |
