2015 Kivathon Discussion Thread
Happy October to all! Come join in the Kiva discussion for our month-long marathon!
You can watch however many episodes a day as you like, but I personally reccomend watching 2 episodes a day for the first 17 days and then one a day for the rest of the month, culminating with watching the movie and final episode on Halloween itself. Kiba'tte Ikuze! Gabu! |
I guess I'll humor you and join.
|
Totally doing this!!
|
It's always a strange sight to see people enthusiastic about Kiva...

Best scene ever in Kiva. Otoya flashmobbed before it was even a thing.

I should join in this. :lol
|
I need reasons to join in Kiva again so why not festive one, also need to watch Kiva again while feeling well to see if my perspective has changed on it.
|
Yeah I'm in there was no way i wouldn't be
|
I ♡ Kiva!
Wataru-kun! >/ / /< |
I mean. I actually wish I knew about this before I watched Kiva for the first time. While I don't hate the series, I'm not sure I want to devote the time to watching it a second time when I could be doing other things...
|
Episodes 1 & 2 down! Woo! Maybe I don't get it, but so far this is awesome.

Just wait until the Decathon!

Honestly, while Decade has its flaws, it is not the worse thing that I've seen.
The fact that he defends each OC Rider from critique and/or death despite being the person who's supposed to destroy them I find touching, if only because many superheroes I grew up liking have disappointed me as characters recently. |

Debating whether or not I should participate. Kiva was okay, but I'm not sure if I can commit to a rewatch. Is this going to be an annual thing, or are we going to alternate between it and Ghost once the latter has finished airing? |

When that bridge comes my friend. When it comes. |
It would seem kind of early to declare a Ghosto-thon next October (presumably) RIGHT after the series ends.

I will help make this better for you all by not watching along and bitching about everything I dislike about this show all month.
You're welcome. |
I'll try and watch it, I love Kiva honestly but I barely have time to watch everything else I'm watching but I'll try.

I would join this since I do like kiva since it was my first rider series and that I have not seen episodes 5 to 12 since I started on episode 13
bur I am stuck on my old laptop so watching videos without lag or messing up would be hard, so unless someone upload the entire series on youtube so I can watch on my 3DS, I will have to wait till my other laptop is fixed if my computer nerd brothers can fix it |
So, Kiva 1-3. This is a discussion thread for a marathon after all. :lol
Wataru being "allergic to the world" seems like a pretty typical justification for shut-ins, and self-loathing brought on by seeing you parents taken from you by your own people and the horrid atrocities committed by your people as well can probably cause hikikomori behavior. The Octopus Fangire is incredible phallic. :lol I love Kivat's trivia, Megumi is hot, and Otoya's Magnificent Bastard superiority complex and womanizing tendencies will come into play once Maya enters the picture. We already saw with the Moth Fangire how Otoya can flirt with a woman, see another and at the drop of a hat change targets. |

I went to start watching this last night, but I need to redownload episodes 1-10 first. I'm glad people are interested in doing this, whether or not the like the show. I have no illusions that Kiva is actually a good show. The writing is weak in places, and atrocious in others, but the designs are amazing, and the concepts I think are quite good. I'd love to see a good team of writers take the premise and maybe even some of the major plot points, and rewrite the show. It would be amazing. |
Is this like let watch Wednesday
|
Let's Watch Wednesday is a TokuNation staff organized event, this is just an unofficial thing some of us decided to do in another thread.

And I like to at the very least consider Kiva to be like the Apollo 13 mission when it comes to its flaws, rather than say, a train wreck since Apollo 13 had a level of success to it whereas a train wreck is a failure completely. I know there are problems, Shizuka for example eventually stops being in the story only to return in the finale at Nago and Megumi's wedding, but the story is still relatively coherent even if it has some pretty significant issues. |
I wish they'd turn Shizuka into a witch! I mean there must be a reason the fuestles exist.
|
Despite the majority of the advice I got in another thread, I'll likely finish Kiva this month so a particular friend has someone to whom to discuss it.
I'm curious how much people's enjoyment tracks to whose sub they're watching. |
Is there more than one sub?
I've only seen the TVN sub, if there's another I'd love to give it a try. |

Kinda wish subbers didn't translate "kisama" and "onore" as "you bastard/bitch" and "damn it" respectively, but whatever. Quote:

Episodes 3 & 4 down.. I'm really enjoying the dynamics. I feel myself very drawn to the characters already.

Alright, some points of interest from the episodes of Kiva I watched tonight.
Episode 1: Bach's Prelude and Fugue in D minor, most overused and cliche piece of organ music ever. But I love Bach's organ music, so this draws me in immediately. Stained glass eyes effect is super awesome, when can I have my eyes permanently surgically altered to look like that? The opening credits sequence for Kiva is amazing, I love the music, and the atmosphere of the shots. Kiva is the best of all designs from all Rider shows. In fact, all the designs from Kiva are among the best. Best music, too. Kivat is awesome. Not really a fan of hyper-allergic Wataru, rather glad they ditch that in the next episode or two. Super-shy/withdrawn Wataru I do appreciate more, especially as he slowly grows out of that throughout the show. Parallel time-line storytelling: interesting idea, but not always handled well. Occasionally handled amazing though. First episode, some of the transitions are done poorly, not waiting for a natural pause in the current story, just a sudden jump to the past. Megumi is kind of a pushy jerk. but on the other hand, it's clearly something Wataru can benefit from. Also, I seem to recall that she gets beat up more often, and probably more badly, than any other character in the show. I love how the Horse Fangire hits his arm to release glass shards, which form into a sword. Which idea we then never see again. But I love the idea of them breaking bits off themselves to form their weapons. Kivat saves Wataru from being stabbed by catching the sword in his teeth. Kivat is awesome. Wake Up attack is awesome (the only one that's better is Wake Up Fever). I remember my impressions the first time I saw this: Why is there a dragon castle thing? Why is it hiding in a building? Why does it eat the fangire's soul? Why do no humans notice this? Also, who cares, that was fucking awesome! Again with the awesome organ music. Episode 2: I like that the fangires all have different styles of fangs. Otoya has one hell of an ego, to assume that all the women love him. He's a womanizing prick, but essentially good at heart, deciding to fight fangires as soon as he sees one and what it does to humans. I like that while trying to seduce Yuri he also steals her whipsword, and then tries to fight the fangire. And he's pretty decent at it for his first try. Have I mentioned that Kivat is awesome? I love how the Wake Up attack leaves the Kiva logo impression on the ground. Machine Kivaa is cool. Figuarts when? Probably before Figuarts Kiva. :/ In these first two episodes, everything works for me, from Wataru idolizing his father, contrasting to how we see the character as a somewhat irresponsible, womanizing jerk, to the hints of other interesting things to come, like the guys inside Castle Doran, and this Nago character who will try to kill Kiva. |
How do you release the Bike before its Rider? :lol
And I have an idea about the "allergic to the world" thing, he wore the mask to get people to leave him alone and assume he was sick and pulled the "allergic to the world" thing as a last attempt to go back to his reclusivity by trying to engage Megumi's sympathy. It didn't work so now he has to go outside without the mask since Megumi's no-nonsense pushiness is something an antisocial recluse like himself would not want to invoke. |

Lol. The thought of getting Kiva's Bike before Kiva himself cracks me up. That's one of the best "everything before Kiva" ideas I've heard.
