Garo: The Crimson Moon Discussion
The first episode of the new anime has aired, so please feel free to discuss the series here!
(Yes, technically not toku but it's still going here) |

... Eh... no. This is not Toku just because it's based on Toku, its anime. We the topic in here for conveniences’ sake, but it's definitely not Toku :lol Haven't watched the episode yet, but after the last Garo anime I will watch it with my expectations set at the absolute minimum. |

It's here simply to keep all the Garo discussion in one place, just as we'd most likely due if any other tokusatsu were to get some sort of anime spin off. |
I'm going to wait a week until it pops up on Hulu. Not exactly in a big hurry to see this after how the first series went.

GARO The Crimson Moon Episode 1: This was an interesting start to a new season of GARO. I enjoyed this episode a lot more than the first episode of Honoo No Kokuin. Raikou is an enjoyable main character and I love Seimei too. I think that the bigger cast of this show will help this series out in the beginning. I am intrigued with Raikou and having Zaruba being turned to stone and that he can't stay in the armor as long as others could. It definitely has mystery and intrigue to it. Also the villain seems more interesting than Mendoza was in the last series so that's a plus. Well it's nice to have any form of GARO on right now. I can't wait for more.

Was a much stronger opening than the first series, but at the same time didn't feel as "Garo" as before. I guess that's the problem with setting things in Feudal Japan - it kinda just lumps it in with all the other fantasy genre anime set then and animated there isn't a whole lot that sets it apart.
Seimei is completely the star of this show though. Despite having a personality Raikou is largely uninteresting, the kid hanging around with him is going to get grating really fast. Seimei is an absolute blast though, kinda wish this whole show was just about her. CGI is possibly worse than before, since now it doesn't have the strength of a unique Garo suit. |

To be fair they got rid of the Unique GARO suit halfway through the season in the first one to go back to the iconic one. Though I wouldn't mind if they created more of a Samurai looking armor for either the secondary knight or an upgrade form for Raikou. I like it as a fantasy Anime and as a GARO series because I'm not watching one of either of those right now so it works for me. Though I will totally agree that Seimei definitely helps this show. |

The initial version of Leon's Garo armor, then Alfonso's version of it, and Ryuga's "Lost Shine" and "Shou" forms make me wonder if they're starting to try and make all the various Garos a little more distinct from each other, other than just eye colour.
I doubt we're gonna get Fruity Garo anytime soon, but I have been curious as to why we've had variations like that recently. I'm currently downloading the first episode now (guessing Funimation still doesn't want my british money), so I shall reserve judgement until I see it. Hoping for a stronger start than Honoo no Kokuin (what is it with most recent shows having a sub-par first half? ToQger did it, Drive did it...). |

Liking what I see so far. Except the armor, looks weird to me this time around.
|
I agree, armor looks weird. I wonder what the "Dark Knight" of this series will look like. I also hope this gets better! First episode was ok. Nothing mind blowing.
|
Watched it. Jury's very much out.
This just didn't feel particularly Garo-ish for me or at best, someone trying to "do" Garo, not doing it right and thus ending up with something that feels a little more generic as a result. And in a minor detail that will bug the shit out of me for the next 20-ish episodes - Raiko's sword is a Katana? I always kinda liked that element of Garo's designs - sword-wielding Knights never seemed to use Katanas. The only exception being Crow. |
As for the show itself I'll give it a few more episodes before i make a opinion
Otherwise i did explain on one of the other garo threads that the purpose of the garo anime is not to give us another main garo series but its purpose is to eclxpand the lore and show little garo history |
GARO Guren No Tsuki Episode 2: This was a very intriguing episode learning more about Raikou's past. I enjoy how different his back story is from the others (they do that well with every GARO.) that he was chosen and found in the gigantic GARO Form. Seimei I am having mixed feelings about because of her snobbish personality but she is very caring with how she saved Raikou and wants to make sure he lives so she is an interesting character. I liked the Parallels between the Horror and Raikou and how he had doubts because he thought he might have killed the guy's father when he was a giant Beast. I am agreeing the animation on the suit looks kind of out of place and not as good as it did in the last series but hopefully it will get better over time. I am enjoying this a lot though I think it's a lot better in the beginning than the last anime series though.
|
I guess Hulu is getting these faster, because both episode 1 and 2 are up already. I watched the first one and... I don't know. I liked it better than the first cartoon's premiere, but it still didn't do a lot for me. More than anything, I spent most of it being distracted by some of the design choices like Raikou's hair, the kid's eyebrows, and Seimei's highly questionable battle gear. The story wasn't bad, though, and I liked the overall tone and setting a lot more than the last series. I'll definitely give this a few more episodes, at least.
|
GARO Guren No Tsuki Episode 3: Well I can sum this episode up into three things: 1. Seimei annoys the crap out of me, if she doesn't improve I'll figure out somehow to manage through this show. 2. Raikou is awesome, I love how he's willing to help people against corrupt humans to save people. Though I'm with him I don't like that his powers are sealed but there might be more to it than just Seimei wanting to keep Raikou close and protect him. 3. If they pull the whole Alfonso/Leon both being GARO because they are related storyline again with Raikou/Yorinobu that will upset me because at the end it seems like they have some mystery connection right now because the Golden Armor is supposed to run through his family. I hope it's something different because that really worked in the last anime because of how Leon and Alfonso were. I hope I'm just getting overworked for nothing here because I believe they can be creatively better than that. I hope this gets better but I'm willing to give this leniency because it's GARO and that the first Anime took about 5 episodes to get good and 12 episodes to be amazing. Well I can't wait for more as long as it picks up in the story.
|
Episode 4: This episode barely did anything, unless Kaguya comes back it was a pretty boring episode. The action was pretty good but the armor doesn't look that great. This needs some help and soon.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Ta..._Bamboo_Cutter on another note i wonder how many more episodes will we get that are based on japanese folklore? |
Episode 5: I'm liking Raikou's developments and seeing more with him. Yasusuke's development was amazing and I felt really bad for him but I definitely see him maybe taking the place as my favorite like Alfonso did last season. Still him becoming a thief and learning that the ones in charge are corrupt and becoming like the woman he loved I definitely enjoy that in his character. I wish the armor looked better but that was definitely a better episode, not where I want it to be but I think it's getting there, so I'm hoping for more later.
|
Really hoping this show picks up soon, because right now the previous anime at its worst was considerably better than this.
I do like the referencing of Japanese folklore, but the characters (save for Seimei, who doesn't feel like she fits a Garo series though) are so bland I can't bring myself to care about any of it. |
Quote:
Seimei is the character I can't stand right now. I like Raikou but still there isn't much here. At this rate I wish they continued with the Last series characters. |
Episode 6: Well this was a better episode but still pretty mediocre. Though I enjoyed the whole talk about strength and weakness in it. I thought the huge Horror was taken down way too easily that there could have been more time for fighting than the random one off character story. It's good to see that Hakamadare has taken off pretty well as a thief with his own bandits. I am more intrigued in that storyline. Seimei had some better moments here too. I hope the storytelling and action improve because I am only watching this because it's called GARO, well I have hope that it gets better sooner rather than later.
|
Episode 7: Probably the best episode of the season and it's actually a good episode not just above Mediocre, I was really surprised at it. As much as Seimei's flaws annoy the crap out of me I really enjoyed this episode because of how much we learned about her, and how strong her spirit was to help save her mother after she was turned into a horror. That was really cool with turning her into a Madou Tool. Also a much better battle scene against something that put up a fight against Raikou. I do also like how caring Raikou is. Well still it needs to keep going up from here, I can't wait for more as long as it continues like this.
|
The fights in Crimson Moon have been pretty lackluster and anticlimactic I hope it improves in that aspect soon. Episode 8 looks like it might have backstory for Raikou which will be good.
|
Episode 7 was the best so far, I feel.
Seimei still annoys me, and I was hoping after the other priest is able to remove the seal on Raikou, that he would be able to summon the armor freely and we'd have more Zaruba. Then she goes and seals everything again. I like Raikou, but would prefer to see him in a more "conventional" Garo story. Also, was that a Grou Dragon? That's a hell of a pull from the things in Garo lore. I appreciated it when Garo will pull out things like that, which you almost forget about. |
Are there any more Makai knights in this new one than just Garo?
|
Episode 8: This was even better than the last episode! It was great and sad to learn about Raikou's past. I felt really bad for him that because the Emperor or whoever was in charge wanted more power had to kick Raikou and his Mother out of the country. I think the biggest thing was that Raikou never had amnesia or anything he knew who he was the whole time and seeing his brother made him want to be a Makai Knight even more. I hope we get to see more of Raikou and Yorinobu together as brothers. Seimei's Chariot is pretty kick ass again and I like that Seimei and Raikou took down the horror together. Kintoki even was pretty good and definitely want to know more about him since he seems to be a lot older than he looks. Well I think they finally hit their stride with this show right now, so I can finally say I'm looking forward to the next episode and can't wait for more. I do hope we get more Makai Knights though, I think an ally or rival to Raikou I think would be pretty interesting for the show, and that we had 3 pretty fast in the last anime makes me wonder if we are getting another one or not here. It would be a shock to have just 1 Makai Knight in a GARO series though. Well like I said this was a great episode for Raikou, I definitely love him more as a character and I can't wait for more this show now.
|
Episode 9: Well this show has finally reached it's stride of watchable and good episodes now. I enjoyed seeing Seimei's past and how far she is willing to go to save Raikou. She has become a much better character lately and that she is willing to keep the darkness in her to save Raikou I like a lot and her should what her character is, makes up for a lot of what I didn't like about her in the first place anyways. I like how the had the big fight in the beginning of the episode and then dealt with more of the character stuff the rest of the episode rather than the other way around. I think they have figured out their strengths and running with them more, also they make the Armor look much better too. Dark Raikou was rather fun with what he was doing, I would love to see his reaction to what he did when he was filled with the Dark energy. I think this might connect a little to Ryuga's series with his Dark Armor and in this episode with losing the light of the Golden Armor, maybe something happened to the Golden Knight who came before Ryuga like this horror or something like it. Like I was saying fantastic episode for the characters and a possible connection to another GARO series, the creators are doing their job here. Seriously, I have gone from dreading watching this to can't wait for the next episode, sometimes you have to be patient and stick through the hard times to get to the good ones. Well like I said I can't wait for more.
|
Nope, not even a second Makai Knight is doing anything for this series. It's still boring as hell and near unwatchable for me.
|
I thought Hakamadare becoming the second Makai Knight was amazing. I thought this show has definitely gotten better after about the 6th or 7th episode. The last episode was brilliant.
|
So the new episode was a boring as hell interview piece but it did tease that there'll be a new variant of Garo armour showing up soon.
Thats kinda cool I guess. A more Samurai-esque version would look great here. |
The new Samurai-esque armor is brilliant! I was hoping Raikou was going to get something like that. Overall the show has gotten a lot better. Episode 14 I think was the huge turning point for it.

This sure is a site for this season the first anime getting an English dub http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news...genesis/.97591
