2016 Spring Kamen Rider 45th Anniversary Film: Kamen Rider 1
 

It's official. The spring movie for 2016 is Kamen Rider 1.

This photo of a souvenir poster was given to those who participated in the filming of the film slated to be in Japanese theaters March 26th, 2016.

As shown on the poster above, the top of the poster says "Kamen Rider 45th Anniversary Commemoration Film" and the center has a photo of a re-arranged/re-designed version of the Kamen Rider 1 helmet covered by the text "Kamen Rider Ichigo(Kamen Rider 1)".
Another thing to note is that the Sakurajima color scheme(the very dark green and green color scheme that succeeded the dark blue and light blue colors when Hongo returned to the show) is being used.

I can't wait to see what the redesigned outfit looks like. An interesting choice to do but it isn't a bad idea at all. I wonder if Hiroshi Fujioka will return again for this.

Let's celebrate using the worst designed suit for Ichigou! Genius!

Here we go, we have our first proper look at the redesigned Ichigo, he's quite a bit more bulky though I suspect that's because it's concept art, looks like they're giving him the half modern/half classic look that Sango had.

New belt too, looks awesome!

and maybe the cyclone green colour is kinda off for me

That is a direct nod to the Sakurajima color scheme(named due to the filming location being Sakurajima at the time) that was used when they had Hongo/Kamen Rider 1 return to the Kamen Rider TV show after actor Fujioka was injured during filming.
I will admit to some it is an "acquired taste" but I personally like this color scheme and am glad they are using this. :)

tbh it looks more of cyclone joker green colour there. Sakurajima Ichigou got dark green colour scheme, really dark green. But yeah maybe that's just the colour from the scan.

Looks really cool. I was kinda hoping for a suit to look similar to the manga version of Ichigo to appear.

I love it. Maybe they'll give an explanation as to why he's changed his look and belt.

Honestly I'm pretty indifferent to it. I mean it kinda looks cool for a suit that's completely unnecessary and will be completely forgotten about a few months after the movie has come out? I get the idea behind it, but I don't feel it's a suit that needs an update. People might see it as dated or whatever but seeing it side by side with the current rider each year just shows how iconic it is.

Yup its an old suit. It doesnt need updating because their is nothing wrong with it for a superhero design from the early 70s.

It might be neat to see the new suit in this movie but just like the desgins from The First/The Next this will be gone rather quickly.

I have no idea what this movie is about but I'm excited!!

The Kamen Rider 1 movie is "Chapter 1" of the "Super Hero Year" project, which will commemorate the anniversaries of Rider and Super Sentai. So, we'll probably see that suit at least a couple of times this year, at least.

Also, The First and the Next disappeared because they were part of a failed reboot. The other material related to this movie makes it look like it's going to be a spring crossover, just focused on Rider 1 and with a new suit/new form.

Note that his belt is very different from the Typhoon, while even Rider 3's kept mostly the same design. So it might be related to this new look.

The green looks lighter, but the inspiration is clearly from that color scheme, considering the white belt and dark mouth plate.

I hope Ichigo does not become our main villain. I really hate the whole "Good guy becoming bad then becoming good again" so quickly.

Just pray that it is not Yonemura and Shirakura. *shudder*

Tentatively curious to see what exactly this is, but I've seen The First, so I don't have the highest expectations for a Kamen Rider 1 redo.

Liking the suit, but I wish it was blue with pink eyes.

I need time to like the design

I'm totally down for the new Rider 1 look. It feels very appropriate for him to receive a new suit after all the various costume changes he and Rider 2 had throughout the original series. This one seems to import elements of The First/Next & Rider 3 with a mixture of colors used on previous Rider 1 suits. It may be a fleeting and ultimately pointless costume but I love the idea of the original rider himself getting a sort of upgrade or final form.

I agree, it's neat to see the very first Rider getting a new form. While the original suit is obviously iconic, I'm all for an upgrade. The new suit looks really cool, it reminds me of Rider 3 in that it has a sort of modernized "Neo-Showa" look.

Shin Ichigou was already that new form, though.

I suspect it may be that Toei decided that Kamen Rider Sangou looked cooler than Shin Ichigou. The updated design screams Sangou to me.

On another note: oh, god. Please, not another lots-of-Riders movie. I've found the best of them to be no more than mildly entertaining. Riders appear to work exactly like ninjas: the more of them you have in one place, the less awesome they are.

It's weird that Sentai having a team up featuring 3 teams giving them over 10-15 (Or more) characters on screen people love, but having more than 4 Riders just tends to have quality drop drastically :lol

Well, these spring Rider movies always have the same creative staff. The director was different in the last two ones, but the main producer and writer were still the same.

So, if you dislike two of them, it's very likely you'll dislike them all. Sentai Vs movies and the Movie Wars always have different staff so you get a more varied product.

I love the new suit for Ichigo. It's about time he got it.

About time! The original suits look so dated and is used so often, it's time he got an upgrade to look better with the new riders.

I still enjoyed all the Taisen films excluding Z, honestly...

I still like the original suits for the Showa Riders. I always love the suit for Ichigo because it's so cool and simple looking. Even as a kid, I thought he looked cool.

This movie's gonna be shit if they go the same route they've going with the SH(i)T films

I don't think Kamen Rider 45th anniversary movie is likely to be Super Hero Taisen film because I remember OOO team up with Den-O for Kamen Rider 40th anniversary and it wasn't Super Hero Taisen one

Since 2016 will be SUPER HERO YEAR!!!!! It's likely Super Sentai will also get their own 40th anniversary movie like they did with Gaoranger, Boukenger and Gokaiger one

The reason of why people dislike Super Hero Taisen because they keep using a same writer Shoji Yonemura to write Super Hero Taisen film. Shoji Yonemura is like Vince Russo of Toku because both men are hated by fans for their terrible writing. I think Super Hero Taisen movie becoming Kamen Rider movie than Super Sentai one!

I think Super Sentai's 40th anniversary movie will be better than Kamen Rider's 45th anniversary movie because I don't think Shoji Yonemura have ever write Super Sentai Show which is a good thing

Regardless I would not be surprised if they have them as cameos because 45th anniversary for riders and 40th for super sentais is going on during 2016.
And it is sad how it seems like a lot of these spring movies feel like Yonemura's annual projects that they give to him to keep busy since all the main shows are occupied with other creators.

I hope this isn't another movie where the current sentai has no purpose of being in the film and the movie is mainly focused on the riders. I am excited but I'm worried cause Tazien GP REALLY lowered my expectations for the taizen movies. Taizen and Taizen Z were amazing but I haven't seen Kamen Rider Taizen but I was dissapointed at the fact that it focused on riders solely. I'm not saying a rider Taizen movie series would be bad, it's just it should be a seperate movie series. It's like if the next smash bros were to focus mainly on Sonic characters. I wish the tradition of Sentai and Riders having equal screen time from the 1st taizen comes back in this movie since it celebrates the sentai and rider anniversaries.

The movie is called "Kamen Rider #1". It'll obviously be Rider centered. The poster indicates that it's just "chapter 1" of the anniversary project though, so we might get a Sentai focused announcement later.

You think Taisen & Z were "amazing"? What movies did you watch? It's clearly not the same ones the rest of us saw. GP at least had Drive to help push it along and Rider 3 was a somewhat interesting character. But the first 2 films fall pretty flat on their face in terms of plot & character development. They make no sense at all. At least GP had time travel to wish that away.

And how can you be disappointed that a movie called Kamen Rider Taisen focused on Kamen Riders? That's the whole damn point of a movie with a title like that. And what tradition? The tradition of this being only the 5th Taisen movie? And only the first one having a fairly even split of Riders & Sentai? Or did you not actually watch Z? Because it had a big focus on Space Sheriffs. So there's no tradition to bemoan being forgotten here.

Well let's hope this one is somewhat enjoyable, coz for me only 1 out of the 4 have been. (heisei vs showa)

I hope that the whole "All Ishinomori War" is a separate thing that's indeed happening and not just a rumour.

I honestly give up on the Taisen movies after Rider Taisen. I didn't even bother with GP. I feel like most of the movies since Let's Go Kamen Riders have been almost the same. There is always some stupid plot twist with the bad guy not being bad this whole time.
