Your Insights on What's the Next Season to Watch
I don't know if this would warrant a new thread but hey, how would I know if I don't try right? If it isn't then this thread gets locked. Hopefully, it gets locked after I get an answer. And I don't want to read synopsis or summaries. I might read some plot-changing spoilers.
I just finished Shinkenger. Here are the seasons I've watched from best to worst: Best: Dairanger why? Because the characters were awesome. Plot was done perfectly. A lot of stoylines that lasts 2 or 3 episodes. My only problem with this season is Kazu or DaiYellow it too under-developed even though the character is very interesting. 2nd: Megaranger why? Because it's an electronic Sentai. I can relate to this especially Shun's character. One of my favorite Sentai ranger of all time. I love almost all of the rangers. Now, if say.. Shougo was MegaYellow instead of Chisato, this would have been the perfect cast. The only problem with this season is that their classmates are important in the finale but I felt like I didn't get to know them. 3rd: Gingaman This season was awesome because it had a lot of bonds between men. Father and son, brother to brother and male friendship. It's also fun and light-hearted. My only problem with this season is that there is no character I can relate to. I am usually attracted to geniuses or creative thinkers like Shun, Hikari, Tsubasa and Chiaki but there's none of that this season. I'd say Hikaru is the closest but didn't hit the spot. 4th: Toqger The mysterious plot kept me watching and the music was awesome. I'm mostly tuned in because there's another character I can relate to: Hikari. He's one of my favorite character ever. Akira is also awesome. Orange ranger for the win! 5th: Shinkenger Takeru. Chiaki. Takeru. Chiaki. Takeru. Chiaki. Pretty much the only reason why this season is interesting for me. Especially Chiaki. The cast is too unbelievable. Genta especially is too skinny. I understand if he was flicking wands butnthese are swords. You'd have to have some muscles developed if you've been training. Also, the second half of the season has no Chiaki-centric episode. Booo! Chiaki only had three episodes centered around him (all on the first half) and all of them were the best episodes of the season for me. However, this season was still fun. I enjoyed it to the very end. 6th: Kakuranger Why I rank this season higher than the other two? It featured Japanese mythological monsters known as yokai. That's pretty much the only reason why I finished this Sentai (and Sasuke and Jiraiya episodes from time to time). This season has a lot of bad points. Jiraiya, Saizou and Seikai are always damsels in distress. Saizou and Seikai always getting shafted. Too much Tsuruhime-centric episodes in the later part. 7th: Gaoranger This season is boring which is a shame because 4 of the cast (Kakeru, Gaku, Kai and Shirogane) seemed awesome. This season suffered from lack of character development. Worst: Magiranger Great Sentai for most of its run. Sungel and Tsubasa were awesome. This season succeeded in making itself feel uniquely magical. But why is it dead last in my ranking? When it reached 40th-ish episode, it crashed and burned as fast as it was building up. Heck, even faster. This season became cowardly. Characters just won't die. They either teleported at the last minute or gets resurrected. Snowgel was a bi***. Vancuria turning good and resurrecting Sphinx for no reason. To top it off, low quality green exists. A woman crushed his feelings on purpose and he still worshiped her. Very self-loathing. tsk tsk.. I have my sights set on 4 Sentai seasons. What do you think? 1. Jetman - I've seen the first 3 episodes of this season. Seems like there will be no amazing character I can relate to. I might be wrong. Raita might turn out to be like Shun, Hikari, Tsubasa or Chiaki. Please tell me if he has similarities to them. If not, if Ryo-Gai relationship will be anything like Kenta-Shun (Megaranger) or Takeru-Chiaki (Shinkenger) then that might be enough to make up for it. 2. Goseiger - It's the season I rarely hear people talk about. Might be worth a try. 3. Go-Onger - The suits look amazing. If only Go-On red's hairstyle in the series was exactly like the one in the Go-Onger-Shinkenger the movie, this season would be a lock for me. He looked so cool in the movie. 4. Abaranger - Aside from glimpse of Sun Vulcan, I haven't watched a 3-man core yet. Should be new for me. This is the best bet of the 4 since AbaWhite and AbaBlack seems badass. And I have a feeling that I'll love AbaRed. Please don't suggest Gokaiger or any season pre-90's. Well, I plan on watching Sun Vulcan in the future but only Sun Vulcan in the pre-90's. Gokaiger, I'll watch when I've completed like 12 or 15 Sentais. |
Ditch them all and watch Carranger.
Because you get stuff like this. http://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/...20140617015413 |
How is too much Tsuruhime a bad thing?
I know you don't want to believe it, but she's the leader of the team. It'd be like complaining about too much Takeru in Shinkenger. Anyway, try Gekiranger. It only has one female member and a lot of the team gets developed. It also has a lot of development for the villains, too. |

You should watch Sun Vulcan. Only season that's only men on the main team. That seems to be up your alley.
Gekiranger also has a 3-man core (eventually goes up to 5 teammates), but one of them is a woman. I know you're afraid of those, so it might not work for you. |

Complaining about too much Daigo in Kyoryu is perfectly fine, though. Because there was too damn much of him. |
In regards to Gekiranger, Ran/ Geki Yellow is appointed to leader at some point in the series. Thankfully (or not?) her role is not as prominent as Tsuru-hime’s. Her status is more of an “in-name only” thing.

Dekaranger. The answer to "What Sentai should I watch next?" is always Dekaranger. Even if you're asking it after just finishing Dekaranger.

EDIT: However, Marigold is defeated and captured...Hm, I think he might enjoy that part. |

@Matrixbeast. I agree. Shinkenger's too much red was justified. More importantly, the season didn't leave the others as decorations. This wasn't the case for Kakuranger however. Not all leaders has to hog screen time. Kouichirou from Megaranger was a prime example. In Tsuruhime's case, the season deliberately sacrificed Jiraiya, Saizou and Seikai to serve Tsuruhime's character. They even went as far as to make these three damsels all the time just to make Tsuruhime look better. Now if these three were given good storylines and developed, I would have overlooked that. But that isn't the case with Kakuranger. Anyway, thanks for the suggestions guys. I will watch Sun Vulcan at a later time. Dekaranger seemed nice. I've seen the first 5 minutes of it. Green seems like he's going to be my favorite again. Sadly, the cop setting does not attract me. Or at least, not yet. Carranger would be good later. Gekiranger seems like a great season. Looks like another kungfu season again even since my favorite is Dairanger. I'll consider watching that. EDIT: Quote:

Kakuranger sacrificed Jiraiya? Dude, he was literally the only other character to get an arc in that series. Sasuke had character growth, but he didn't get a personal arc aside from that time he saved the others, in which case, Everyone else were in distress but him.
Seikai and Saizou did receive minimal stories, yes. True. It doesn't make the series worse because Tsuruhime, the leader of the team, the one who gathered the team, and the only character to take their work seriously during the first half, received a story arc. |
Quote:
Then again, you also have watched Dairanger yet refer to Qilinranger as "DaiYellow." So that kinda shows how much you pay attention, at least to me anyway. |
@Zaragon
Dairanger was the very first season I watched and that was a long time ago so normally, I wouldn't remember every detail of it. Still, the best season by far though. Almost everything was perfect with Dairanger. As for Kakuranger, there is always a pecking order with who gets to be a damsel or who falls first. It is always Saizou, Seikai or Jiraiya in any order then Tsuruhime. That happened multiple times throughout the series. It tries to show us these three guys are incompetent while Tsurihime and Sasuke aren't. Tsuruhime isn't an annoying character. It's just we always get reminded that she's the leader with yokai mentioning it every other episode . This isn't the case with most Sentais I've watched. I get that she's not red but look at Megaranger. Red wasn't leader either but you'd hear Nezirezia or some other character mention it once or twice the whole series and that's it. Plus, Tsurihime hogged screentime towards the end. |
Quote:
Frankly though, I don't think you'd be complaining at all if Tsuruhime had instead been male or if all of her development had been given to one of the other four. You've already shown a good amount of bias against female characters and men that don't fit your idea of masculinity to a tee. |
Well, look at is this way.
If in Shinkenger, Takeru was always getting captured and needed to be saved from one of the other rangers, would you respect him or see his qualities as a leader? Tsuruhime wasn't put in distress because from the perspective of the writer, it wouldn't make any sense. She was the leader, the character the team was supposed to see as strong and brave. Putting her in situations where she needs constant aid would make her more of just another gun on the team. She was also the intellectual and strategist of the team. She didn't rush forward, so she rarely stumbled into traps the more headstrong Seikai and Saizou would. Also, it would've been really kind of distasteful to put the one female member in distress for the men to save over and over again. Your issue isn't that Seikai and Saizou (And Jiraiya on, like, 2 occasions) were in distress, but that Tsuruhime wasn't a damsel in distress more often. She subverted the trope that the woman isn't capable of fighting unless she has a strong man behind her, and you found it a flaw? |
Quote:
This is amazing. I have literally no idea what he'll say next! :lol |
No, actually. I wouldn't have mind Tsuruhime if they made Saizou and Seikai more competent. And also, if Tsuruhime was older. I mean, she's the youngest of the team. I think way younger than everyone else? So normally, it wouldn't make sense if she was lightyears better than everyone except Sasuke in almost every way possible.
The problem is just why make Tsuruhime leader in the first place? She does not fit the role period. Sasuke would have been a lot more convincing. Well, there's another season with a female lead. Timeranger, if I'm not mistaken? I'm gonna watch that once they complete the subtitles. I'm attracted to it because I heard Yellow has inhumane strength and Green is an alien. Hopefully, we'll see a lot of those. The female leader looks more experienced than Tsuruhime and I hope the Time guys will be more competitive than the Kaku guys. |
It's okay to not like Tsuruhime, but you're trying to create excuses.
She's the youngest at 17. However, you're missing that she and Jiraiya are the only members to take being a Kakuranger seriously for the first 25 episodes. Seikai, Saizou, and yes, even Sasuke, are just being jackasses (Sasuke a little less so, but he did have his moments of just complete childishness) until the stakes get raised and they realize they have to start acting like adults, too. She doesn't fit the role? You must not have watched the series, because she was the only member actually willing to put her big boy pants on and prioritize defeating Yokai instead of getting laid (Jiraiya was also serious, but he was too focused on his own problems, and he couldn't speak Japanese for, like, 5 episodes). Tsuruhime was literally made for the role as leader, but you're using superficial reasons to make her seem unjustified ("She's too young!" "She's a she!" "She didn't bumble into traps!" "She's not Sasuke!"). You don't have to like Tsuruhime or Kakuranger. But you're trying to take minor and menial pieces and blow them up, as well as blatantly and clearly forgetting (Or intentionally) leaving out major details to justify your reasoning. Tsuruhime was the perfect leader for the Kakurangers because until episode 20, she was the only fucking member who even wanted to be there. |
Actually, being too young is a valid reason especially when you have someone like Sasuke in your team. She was the strategist? Sasuke is the one who keeps coming up with ideas on backup plans and how to solve the problem. The advantage Tsuruhime had over him was she was born a Tsuruhime.
I guess you can say Tsuruhime is the leader by name but Sasuke is the real leader in the background. That's probably why I never saw her as a convincing leader. |

But that doesn’t mean I take offense at gentlemen that don’t fit the male stereotype or have “feminine” traits. Just because a man “needs saving” doesn’t make me any less of a woman, I feel. Likewise, a woman being the “saviour” doesn’t and shouldn’t make you any less of a man. Why can’t I, for example, defend/ save myself just because I’m a woman? Anyway, have you considered watching Go-Busters? |
Quote:
Did that all sound coherent and cohesive? Or am I just rambling? :lolol |
It's weird that you guys are having big reactions when I say I don't like male damsels yet you overlooked the poster with darth vader avatar when he said he doesn't like female damsels in the "8 Things Worst About Sentai and Kamen Rider" thread. Where did the double standard came from?
@Kamen Rider Lolita Yeah. I've been planning to watch Go Busters for a long time now but kept getting put on hold because something better came to mind. Gingaman, Shinkenger, now one of those four. What's in Go Busters? @Suzu Well, I never really saw MagiRed as leader. It was mentioned in one episode but the responsibility was distributed more evenly if you ask me. I didn't have a problem with it because no one mentioned it past that episode. Heck, I think it was mentioned only once or twice throughout the series? Unlike NinjaWhite. |

Sasuke, Saizou, and Seikai stumbled into their roles at the beginning of the season. Jiraiya was trained in martial arts by his dad and the his adoptive father, but he was not trained to be a Kakuranger. That is why they are less experienced despite being older. It's really not that hard. Quote:
FEMALE DAMSELS IN DISTRESS ARE A PROBLEM BECAUSE THEY PRESENT WOMEN AS HELPLESS OBJECTS WHO CAN'T TAKE CARE OF THEMSELVES. THE TROPE PRESENTS WOMEN AS PRIZES TO BE WON, NOT HUMAN BEINGS. IN THE REAL WORLD, WOMEN ARE OBJECTIFIED TO A DANGEROUS DEGREE. DEPICTING THIS IN MEDIA PERPETUATES A CYCLE OF OBJECTIFICATION THAT HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR THOUSANDS OF YEARS. MEN ARE NOT SUBJECT TO THIS LEVEL OF OBJECTIFICATION IN REAL LIFE, SO IT'S NOT AS BIG A PROBLEM TO PRESENT THEM THIS WAY IN MEDIA. ESPECIALLY BECAUSE MEN HAD NEVER EVER BEEN SERIOUSLY PRESENTED AS DAMSELS IN DISTRESS UNTIL ABOUT 20 YEARS AGO. THERE'S A REASON THE TROPE IS CALLED A "DAMSEL" IN DISTRESS. DAMSELS ARE WOMEN, BY DEFINITION. BUT JUST BECAUSE MALE "DAMSELS" IN DISTRESS AREN'T AS BIG OF A PROBLEM DOES NOT MEAN THAT THEY ARE NOT A PROBLEM. IT IS A DEHUMANIZING TROPE REGARDLESS OF THE GENDER. IT IS LAZY AND SHOULD BE AVOIDED BY EVERY WRITER. Moderators, how much longer are you guys gonna let this guy spew this misogynistic garbage? He has hijacked 4 threads with this anti-women crap now, and he's not stopping. Literally every one of his 22 posts has included some sort of hateful rhetoric. Something has to be done. |
Okay, everyone in this thread needs to calm down and stop right now.
LiamLee, I don't know if you're being blissfully naive or purposely obstinate but you need to take a long look at your posts. Everyone complaint you give about a show is ultimately coming down to female characters not fitting whatever tiny checklist you seem to feel they should be, and that is earning you a reputation here. Having a problem with female characters being written as "damsels in distress" over generations of writing is not the same as the odd male character being written that way, especially when male characters ALWAYS outnumber females on Super Sentai and in media in general. I've warned you once to start expressing your posts in a less derogatory way, and I'm giving you that warning again. The rest of you, especially those who've been goading this conversation since the very beginning of the thread, need to remember that each user's post has a "report" button underneath it. If you feel that a post or user needs mod action, then report it and the moderator/admin staff will look at it accordingly. |
I believe everything I've written so far is my opinion regarding certain characters or my thoughts regarding a subject matter Mr. Mod. You are free to site an example post of mine wherein I said anything derogatory. I challenge you. I think you might mean the damsels? I'll talk about that in another paragraph. If there is anything else, I challenge you. I'm asking you because you seem like a reasonable person.
If you think derogatory means people getting offended because of their personal biases and I have to end my free speech because of that, then you may ban me. I don't want to be associated with a website that hates opinions that doesn't match their own. But please keep in mind. I will continue posting in other websites and I will never change my opinion just because someone else does not like it. Kamen Rider Lucha called me a misogynist and dumb and that's not derogatory to you. Stating my opinion is. I know it was a reaction to what I said (because he hates my opinion) but I never even once called people or a group of people names. And I'm not complaining. I posted an opinion, someone reacted so I reacted back. And lastly, regarding this: Quote:
More often than not, disposable characters (dying for no reason) are male especially in hollywood. 1) Do people complaining about female characters getting killed off all the time has no right to do it because historically, that has always been a male role? 2) Sentai has a lot of male character deaths and only one female (and that was only due to the actress leaving), if Sentai will kill off a lot of female characters in the future, do people have no right to dislike it especially compared to the male character deaths? |
I believe this has gone on enough. Liam's opinion, however unpopular, is his opinion, and his right to state it. Any member feel offended by his opinions can counter as long as it's in a civilized manner, members can also choose to mute Liam by adding him to the ignore list if deemed necessary. Any trolling, baiting, name calling, harrassing from either side will receive infractions according to our rules. Consider this a warning, move on with the topic or this thread will be closed.

Of the four you listed, Abaranger or Jetman.

Thank you Mr Admin. And I like your avatar by the way. :)
@Epsilon. Thanks. I've just chosen Go-Onger. It's been very enjoyable so far. I hope the season stays strong to the very end. :) I'll check Abaranger out. I might watch it after Go Onger. |
edit: oops lol
