Kamen Rider Ex-Aid Episode 5- "Everyone Gathers For A Clashing Crash!" Discussion
The CR Riders have been completely outclassed by the mysterious Black Rider. Can the newly-developed Gashats give Ex-Aid & crew the new powers they need?
As always you can view this episode via live stream on Saturday by heading over to Taima TV. They play other miscellaneous programs up until the live broadcast starts. Live Streams of the Superhero Time block start at 6:30 PM Eastern Standard Time on Saturdays. |
Gundam VS bicycles. I am going to laugh if Genm STILL wins

Hey Y'All, Let's Have Us A Clashing Crash, Huh? |
Huh, ok. I guess that explains the weird Bugster from the scans. These are weird artificial Bugsters that use the powers of the Gashats they have in their heads, it seems. Makes sense enough I guess.
So the audience finds out Dan is GENM but the characters don't. Alright I guess. He seems to be losing it a little at the end there...We still don't really know what his deal is, but he's in cahoots with the generals. Speaking of which, that Graphite sure has a fashion sense. Must run with being a Bugster. And Kiriya lies. Surprising. Dan almost killed his ass for a bit there. Gotta wonder what he's gonna do with that information if Dan himself doesn't reveal it in the next few episodes. Anyway, good episode. Seeing Emu kinda lose it at the end there was actually pretty interesting. It certainly is starting to look like they're really gonna do something with his whole personality change thing... And the Robot Gamer is doing the hoodie thing from Ghost. Nice. |
Dan Kuroto is Genm
Called It. |
Ah...I am really want Graphite's Gashacon Bugvisor...the transformation voice is very awesome and cool!!!! :D
Graphite really remind me to Mashin Chaser..... :D Hmm....this time, Emu finally Game Clear again (in third time) after he destroy Robol Bugster and obtain Gekitotsu Roboits Gashat. The batlle between Ex-Aid vs Genm in their level 3 looks interesting. Hmmm....Dan is Genm afterall. |
Shame next week no Ex-Aid.
I hope for another Ex-Aid vs Genm fight! Sonic vs Shadow/Ryu vs Akuma style! |
I enjoy that Gekitotsu Robot's uses a Rocket Punch as the finisher. I also like the extra touch they did with it ramming Genm into the wall and having Emu run forward and push it in even further to finish the job. Admittedly though I wish we got more time with Ex-Aid Robot Gamer, fight was a bit too short but the Rocket Punch alleviated that a tad.
Also interesting to see the Bugvisor transform Graphite into his Bugster Form, I like it since I believe only Mashin Chaser has done that so far. Though technically the Break Gunner doesn't also function as a Driver later on. Also that second fight felt pretty intense with Genm and Graphite just wrecking everyone up. |

Ex-Aid as a show is just in a much better place than Ghost was form-wise, honestly. Even though they're doing the exact same debut-a-new-toy-every-episode thing the last couple of shows have done, since it's spread out over five Riders, we don't have to worry about something like eight forms all competing for screentime. Even if we don't see much of one of them in their debuts, it's not like they're gonna drop it for the next toy next episode. Which is made pretty evident in this case. Sports Gamer showed up very briefly in episode 4, but we saw a lot of it in episode 5. (for better or for worse. honestly, though almost all the level 3's look better than I expected, I still prefer their level 2's. oh well). |
Ex-aid vs Genmu at lv 3 - with Ex-aid got a power up medal so Ex-aid won. Seems legit (' 3')
No Nakama or Miracle Powa for ya |
Caught the raw, need subs to see WTF was going on
but For Level 3 Ex-Aid's finisher, they used a 1st person POV shot before Ex Aid ran up and delivered the final punch Has that camera work ever been used before in KR? Can't recall off the top of my head neat that they're trying new cinematography |
I wonder what the binary code on Emu's shirt translates to.
Anyone willing to have a crack at it? :P So I was curious as to who Iwanaga was(GENM Corp. CEO Kuroto's actor) and found out that he is an actor/pharmacist. He ACTUALLY studied medicine at university. And is a hardcore bookworm whose hobby is studying. |

This was just a totally fantastic episode. The intriguing parts are definitely Genm, Graphite, and Parad and everything with them. I am intrigued with Snipe and Graphite's back story. It was great seeing the Riders work kind of together this episode. Still Emu was brilliant and I just love him sticking with his idealism; but his transformation into Gamer mode was kick ass. He just went boom bam boom and was practically kicking all the bad guys' collective ass. I wonder why Lazer lies to them, does he work with Genm or what? Still I love how this is going and Lv 3 Ex-Aid was totally badass. I can't wait for more.
|
I feel dumb for not realizing this earlier, but Gemn's helmet in Level 3 looks like he's wearing a bike helmet.
|
Subs are up on kissasian, a different group
|
This show honestly just keeps getting better with each episode. Absolutely love Emu pulling an Agito at the end there.
And yeah, I can just sense an epic villainous breakdown coming from Dan down the road. |
Episode 5 is up but EXCITE will no longer be doing DDL, so I gotta wait until the king of hardsubs, jps317, does the deal.
|
This show is just rocking so far! The plot is picking up a lot and all of the Riders are interesting to me (plus the effects are really nice). This show stands a solid chance of becoming my new favorite honestly. Can't wait for rhythm game Brave next episode.
|
So that was pretty cool. Kind of breaks the trend of me liking each episode more than the last but hey, this one had a lot of Plot stuff to exposit so whatever.
- I kind of knew they'd start doing Bugsters who are conveniently already dudes in suits but I actually expected them to keep up the CG poop monsters for at least a little longer. I'm sure we'll still see more in the future but it seems like the Level 1 forms are on the track to becoming token things in-between the Riders transforming and the Riders actually transforming. - I would complain that the reveal of Genm's identity would've worked better if Dan had actually been in the show for more than 2 minutes up to this point but given the way it plays out it seems like it's actually a pretty low-key reveal. It's less that it was a mystery and more that this is Genm's "debut episode" and he'll actually be a character from now on. Like he was only around from the start because it made sense he would be. - Hey, so Emu's hot-blooded tendencies ARE going to be a recurring thing. Neat. Presumably they're going to backfire on him again at some point? Like, it's supposed to be his big flaw right? Because here Ex-Aid pretty effortlessly backed up all his talk and kicked the crap out of the previously untouchable Genm. Gotta sell those new toys I guess. |
Wow, this was a good episode, albeit I felt like forcing it down into a conflict between Ex-aid and Genm kinda messed with the tension the episode had going for it. I don't think I've ever seen a Rider fight this early on where the stakes are this high. So many Riders and the villains all gathered together in what? Episode 5?
I love how Graphite's Bugvisor does the sort of a "Level Up" sound except for going into Bugster form. Makes me wonder if he too might get a gashat and put his bugvisor on his belt to strengthen him or go into some sort of Level 3 equivalent. Oh, and Genm is actually the CEO. This puts a whole new spin on things. He seems to be cooperating out of his own will given that last scene, rather than being forced due to Parad and Graphite giving him the Virus or some other reason. Also explains why that dude got away with theft. But then why is he cooperating with the CR and the other Riders and giving them Gashats and Drivers? Maybe to make it look like humanity at least had a fighting chance against the bugsters? It feels like this show is getting to key plot points pretty quickly so far. Makes me think that the current set of villains are probably not just the entire show's villains, kinda like Gaim and the Overlords. Also, I need some high res images of Emu in his shirt so I can try and read the binary. Anyone willing to help? |

Five episodes in Drive was filling in important backstory about the Global Freeze and also fleshing out Shinnosuke (and Kiriko) a bunch. Five episodes in Ghost had introduced a mysterious new Rider who teased bits of backstory and also totally shattered Takeru's already delicate self-esteem in just two appearances, allowing the show to flesh him out some more. Five episodes in Ex-Aid has introduced its expansive cast of Riders and teased bits of backstory. It all seems about normal to me. It might look like a lot because of how busy the show feels but not much has actually happened yet. It's basically been all setup all the time. |
Interesting dynamic for the "patient" this episode, I would've liked it if he wasn't Graphite, and they went further into the "should criminals be saved?" debate, although this is a kids show so they probably didn't want to.
Just as the scan revealed, Genm's secret identity is actually (and logically) Dan Kuroto. Speaking of Dan, I gotta say, it takes a lot to have 3 different alliances going on at once. He's got play the trustworthy benefactor to the CR. Carefully make deals with Taiga and Kiriya, both of whom are fairly clever and know important information. And fool all of humanity while working with the Bugsters. I'd be amazed if Dan manages to keep up the charade past episode 10, and either blown away or greatly disappointed in the CR if he pulls a Micchy and doesn't get revealed to the rest of the cast until the later episodes. Lastly, my favorite moment in this episode was where Brave, Lazer, and Snipe all transform together. I know it happens all the in almost every other toku series. But I really love the one in this episode, possibly because the riders aren't friends and it feels more like a rare moment I won't see often. (On a side note, if more of these group transformation happen constantly throughout the rest of the series, feel free to laugh at me for this when the show ends.) |
Yeah, the show is so far into full blown conflict mode it's hard to predict how it can sustain for another year without there being some other, deeper, yet unseen plot and characters.
Pretty great episode - with Fish in that it was the first that I didn't like more than the last. Poppi is a mess, they need to better define the Poppi / Asuna divide. |

There's nothing wrong with any of that, but going back to the comparisons to the last few shows, episode 5 of Drive was part one of a two part story where Shinnosuke had to overcome his manic depressive tendencies to use a new form and deliver a satisfying smackdown to Machine Chaser for the first time, and episode 5 of Ghost was part one of a two part story (kind of) in which Takeru learned to have some faith in himself and stop being so mopey. I'm pretty character focused when it comes to TV shows so I kind of wish Emu had done a bit more to "earn" his win against Genm, especially since he was shown to be so tough even in Level 2, so even just on a logical level it strikes me as odd his Level 3 form isn't inherently tougher than everyone else's too. Emu basically wipes the floor with him. I'm not actually that miffed for how long I just went on about it, though. It just kind of threw me off. Ex-Aid really has been a ton of fun so far. |
Oh, there was something I wasn't clear on in this episode though. Genm thrashed most of the Riders and broke their transformation. Wasn't losing all your health supposed to be deadly, or did I miss them all undoing their transformation manually?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Also, yeah, they should have had Emu do something more to make it feel like he earned his power-up. Considering how Emu was even saying "I just want to cure your sickness"(I was watching this with RTA subs) right before Graphite showed up (I also didn't know what Graphite's actor looked like, so I assumed he was just a normal VoTW), I was actually expecting him to start encouraging Ex-Aid with some cliche "It's not me, get in there and kick his ass!" line, and then Emu gets the new gashat and wrecks Genm. |
Quote:
But then, Genm did seem to revel in his own assbeating, leaving me to wonder if somehow Emu is an unwitting pawn in all this. Black bar just in case? Are we bothering? |
Me thinks Dan/Genm isn't all there. His last line while he insanely laughed kind of said it all. :lol
|
Well, I kinda have a bit mixed feelings here. For some points, the plot are progressing much more and more and it keeps interesting. But, at the same time, there're still a lot of negative parts here. First, like what MarsHottentot said, they really need to divide between Asuna and Poppi's role cleverly. Since, it's really annoying to see Asuna acted like Poppi and otherwise vice versa. Most of the times, it felt so out of place and a bit tad weird. The dry comedies here also make it even worse... Also, I feel that the pacing in this episode was too fast or too disorganized. At one point, they want to focus on Graphite's human form debut, at other places, they want to focus on Genm and Emu's constant emotion changing. They crammed too many points in this episode that it got a bit mess here.
Also, despite many people might love the big gathering in this episode, I kinda dislike the big Rider gathering here. I mean we got 4-5 Riders appeared in the last episodes and seeing them being crammed in so much early episode like this feel nothing more than a toy commercial. Seeing that most of the characters aren't fleshed out making the Rider gathering was a bit flat. Not to be mean, but I think even if Kiriya or Taiga don't appear in this episode it will still proceed like usual; especially how you would make Kiriya to fare with Genm who used Level 3? I'm also confused why that robot Buster and Graphite didn't lend any hand to help Genm in his fight Ex-Aid. It felt so stupid that the robot Bugster only reacted when Ex-Aid prepared to smash him out! Well, I don't really think that the action is the one who shone in this episode. I should give it to the plot since we got to see more of Emu's character. I don't really care so much to the other Riders, but seeing Emu's development in each episode is great! Also, seeing him to be mad really help to give more tension to the series. I don't think any naivete main Rider like Emu got so frustrated or so mad. I bet his split personality might backfire at him later. I hope the series also flesh out the other characters, since I felt that some of them are quite flat, except for Taiga. Also, seems like the ending scenes are made by Toei to troll the fans. Wow! Really, we knew that the black Ex-Aid's name is Genm, but almost no one could be sure it was DAN!! We got so trolled to think that Genm is either Graphite or even Parad. |
