Ultraman X and Ultraman Ginga S Getting US Theater Release

The Ultraman X and Ultraman Ginga S movie, both featuring team ups with previous Ultraman characters, are going to be showing at various theaters across the US next year.

To my knowledge, this is the first Japanese hero tokusatsu series to have a theatrical screening.

I did not see that coming. Those show dates aren't too far away from my birth month either. I usually don't like going to movie theaters but I may make an exception for such a special occasion.

Nice! Unfortunately, it looks like these will be nowhere near me. Then again, I'm not a huge dubbing fan.

I just saw the dub trailer... It was about the quality I expected. The question is, am I going to see it anyway?

If this was a sub I'd be more excited, as is I'd probably take a pass on them even if they were being shown somewhere convenient. Mt Washington Kentucky? That's middle of nowhere. That doesn't even make any damn sense for this state. No showings in Lexington or at least Louisville is insane.

My guess is they stuck it anywhere that would allow it, regardless of what little - if any - sense it makes.

One one hand it is amazing to be getting Ultraman movies on teh big screen. On the other hand, why the hell do they have to be dubbed? They're live action, they should be subbed. At the very least they should be doing it both ways.

Why are people with animation being dubbed, but not live action? Dubs help introduced a wilder audience.

Except the only people going to see these are Ultraman fans, most of which don't want to watch it dubbed.

A wider audience that doesn't care about the franchise is not going to say, "Hey look, this theater is showing Ultraman, I want to know what that is, let's go see it."

Dubbing Asian stuff into English just does not work. Especially when you dub such a fast-tongued language like Japanese into English. The voices just don't match them, nor the lip syncing. Luckily I have the qc version of the Japanese version from tv-nihon (which has been in qc forever, and is finally canceled).

This is cool! I'd go to that even with the goofy English dub.

I would like a subbed version of the X movie though...

Why couldn't we get subbed movies? Shin Godzilla was great subbed in the theatres. That dubbing sounds so bad lol. Well I hope these do well though.

For those looking for subs, TV-Nihon has released that. Not sure if it will stay up forever, so grab it fast :)

Godzilla has a much, much wider appeal. The subbed versions were offered to theaters but there was only interest in dubbed versions.
