Kamen Sentai GoRider
I wasn't sure where to put this and I didn't see a thread for it so I decide to make my own. TV-Nihon has translated and released the first episode of the mini series so I decided to share my thoughts.
Right off the bat, the first thing you'll notice is how... subtle it is. Its no secret that modern day Kamen Rider tends to be very... in your face with loud noises and flashing lights. This episode however was, for the most part anyway, very quiet save for the talking drivers. Something I'm also surprised about was how long it was. I didn't really put much thought into the length of the show but whoa, I was not expecting this to be 32 minutes long. Look back...was this length really necessary? Despite the long length, not all that much happens in this episode. Its mostly just the characters meet, talking, and a little bit of battling. The rest of the time was spent building atmosphere which, while good and all, probably didn't need to take as long as it did. One thing that I also liked about this episode is that the revived characters are the one who receive the focus, not Emu. Not counting that 6 minute long opening that was just Emu walking around a carnival repeating the same thing, very few scenes in this episode lacked at least one of the revived characters. Most of the focus was on their interactions with each other and the way they introduced the characters I felt did a really good job of giving them a bit of individual characterization for those unfamiliar with them before putting them with the rest of the group. All and all, I really enjoyed this first episode. It was probably longer then it really needed to be but I enjoyed myself none the less. I love it when early Heisei Riders meet modern Heisei riders, the stark difference tone and gear is always amazing to see. I can't wait to watch more. |
I have to disagree about the length of the episode. I think it worked quite well. The slow burn of characters arriving and the story unfolding helps tremendously. There is an almost Agatha Christie vibe going on as the mystery deepens. Those extra minutes help ratchet up the tension for whatever comes next. I'd be fine if the whole thing continued on like this. Of course, it can't and I expect as things head towards the conclusion it will be a lot more action and fewer character moments, which is a shame in a way.
I never get tired of seeing actors returning to their roles, especially when they aren't from recent series, and I always get a thrill when old drivers and driver sounds are revisited. I wasn't much of a Blade fan overall but seeing that character again, not to mention ones I genuinely liked like Another Agito, really brings a smile to my face. Of course, I will never tire of Gaim characters/costumes returning and it's always bittersweet because I'm reminded of how much I missed them. Of course it isn't all good, at least for me. Seeing the old characters and their gear only reinforces how much I really, really dislike the Ex-Aid design aesthetic. It just does not appeal to me in any way, shape, or form. Suffice it to say, the story so far has me intrigued. I'd happily watch a whole Amazons-length series of these characters unraveling a mystery with as much, or as little as one may see it, action as this episode had. |
When the Shocker appeared, Kino sounded like he knew about them. How did he know about them? I am sure he has never met them before... or atleast, never on-screen.

Very intriguing episode, really interested how it develops in the future.

I liked it.
The episode was a lot longer than I thought, but it worked out. I really liked the tension rising as the mystery deepens. The slow scenes of the characters just talking is always nice in an action based series like this. It helps set the tone of what's to tome. I hope they don't mess it up. Anyway, I love seeing the deceased characters returning, my all time favorite, Blade, especially. I haven't touched Agito, but Another Agito seemed pretty cool. He seemed abrasive, but not Kaixa or Baron levels of abrasive. He kept a semi-level head throughout the episode. Seeing Baron and Marika make a return was also rather nice. Haven't watched Ex-Aid, so...Yeah. I'm glad it isn't overly focused on Emu, so I can get into the mystery a little more rather than Emu's struggle. Pretty good episode. Kinda sucks that the GoRiders didn't actually appear, but with the pacing in this episode, I think it would've ruined the flow otherwise, so I'm fine with it~ Quote:
I think at this point, we just have to accept that all Riders know about Shocker, despite it never being actual canon. |

Looking at the Kamen Rider Wiki, apparently he hasn't, which is strange. I would've imagined he participated in the All Rider Break.
What, did that happen when Toei was on the fence about treating him as a Rider? I guess he hasn't met Shocker. Odd. |
Technically he met with Shocker if the video games are canon, Rider Revolution had Shocker kidnap him iirc

That was... interesting. I rather liked the slow burn and mystery aspect of it. Of course, I was excited to see Kiriya, and was pretty happy to see Kenzaki too despite not being a Blade fan. Gotta love how Kenzaki is such an odd one out being UNdead and all. I'm curious to see what direction this is going, although who knows how long it will take for the next one to get subbed.
|
Wait. There are previous Rider characters in this? Kenzaki? Fucking Kino?
Right. Downloading this shit ASAP. |
It's ALL about old riders and... Go-Ranger....
Mysterious! |

Okay, so I watched the first episode and it was pretty damn neat. I didn't realize that Yoko was in this, too; very happy to see her again. I do have to say, though, that it is really weird seeing suits from Agito and Blade next to ones from Gaim and Ex-Aid. Those are some pretty serious aesthetic clashes.
I'm really happy to see Kino getting so much focus. I never thought we'd see that character again and he's still a complete dick. |
Little off topic, but I only just now noticed the Krispy Kreme logos in your sig, Switch. Perfect. :lolol

I actually enjoyed this! I mean I knew I would. But I really enjoyed this. :lol I cannot wait for the next episodes to get subbed!!

This was good, really excited to see episode 2!
I don't know if it really needed to be full episode length, though. I assume this won't continue, but the first episode had a lot of dead air. The beginning with Emu wondering around in particular could have been half as long as it was, and I don't think we needed two scenes of the riders getting teleported back after wandering too far. Also, I wonder if they're really going to resurrect these riders as the Goriders after this. Probably not, but I don't know. That would cause some issues with Blade's continuity though, and possibly the upcoming Lazer special. |
In the latest opening of Ex-Aid it shows a clip of him and his team from the Taisen changing into the GoRiders. So I'm beginning to wonder what is going on with these two sets.

Tv-Nihon have uploaded episode 2 of GoRider.
I've just got done with the episode and, I must say, it was quite a ride. Following all of the build up from last week's episode, this one has a lot more going on. While this episode certainly had its quiet moments, the one that stands out to me most being the scene with Kaito, Yoko, and Kino talking about their deaths and how the events of their series effected them, the story advances at a much faster pace compared to the first one and it even throws in the twist of Kenzaki, a fake version of him anyway, betraying them at the end. It makes me even happier that they choose to make the first episode a more quiet one. It made this one all the more enjoy. I can't wait to see how they end this. |
the sextet rider kicks was awesome. Then everyone does the superhero landing and Kiriya slipped on the snow. :D
Also, this part: Fake Kenzaki: Thanks to you, I managed to bring hope to those four Kamen Riders. I'll destroy that hope and they will fall into despair Like lol, what? Are you a Phantom or something? The ending though, why is Hatesate Bugster from the heisei generation movie here? Seems random. |
Solid episode.
Kenzaki just can't catch a break when he returns, can he? I guess since this one is a fake, I'll let it slide. Damn, though... I'm really enjoying this. The scene with Kino, Yoko, and Kaito was well done, and Kenzaki's interactions with Emu were really nice. He's come a long way since hating everyone around him :lol I bet if he gave Leangle that talk, he probably could've rejected the Spider Undead a lot earlier :p |
I've only watched the first ep but man, the old riders are so much cooler than Ex-aid and whatever the fuck that eyesore with Digimon eyes was.

As a Danganronpa fan this hope and despair thing seems quite familiar. Im quite enjoying these episodes.

Yeah though, this episode was very interesting. I liked seeing all the characters reflect a bit on their deaths, I thought that the Kenzaki betrayal was cool too. I suspect that the traitor varies each time though, especially judging by the next preview. |

I haven't actually seen the episode but I'm assuming we're talking about the blocky looking Bugster from the Heisei Generations Movie right? I would agree with the train of thought that yes every monster that appears from previously is kind of just a thing that happens. But usually those are past monsters and not specific enemies to the current hero for the most part. Also the fact that the Bugster comes from a game called Hatestate Puzzle, and considering this is a big mystery thing, mystery and puzzles come together quite well. I mean it's like Emu is trapped within a... Perfect Puzzle. |
Anyone got a link where I can watch this show?

Has anyone else noticed that, whenever Emu's teaming up with past season riders, he likes to jump straight to level 3, rather than stay at level 2?
Like why is that? Is his level 2 not equal to Blade and Baron's base form? Or does his mid-season lack of experience compared to these older riders make him won't to start in a stronger form, just to even things out? Since the Ghost x Ex-aid crossover movie isn't out online yet for me to confirm this, I'm not treating this as an absolute truth, but I've seen him you Gekitotsu Robots more in crossovers now than in the main show, since the previews for the Movie War do show him using it (obviously around then, he'd just gotten it a week or so ago). |
Um guys, I have bad news. The one who disguise as Kenzaki seems to KUROnami NintenDAN
-First thing first, you noticed how Emu seems to realized who the fake Kenzaki is when he reveal his true form? -Second thing, these pictures: https://scontent.fsgn2-2.fna.fbcdn.n...fa&oe=5951C5E2 |
I don't care who the hell you are, that first image is fucking HOT!!!
|
First episode: Really boring until Kiriya joined the fight.
Second episode: The ending was just really creepy with Blade. |

This is too similar to KR4 with the repeating cycle. It's really just a 90 minutes tv movie. The pacing was very slow the first episode, but the second one made up for it.
